Chapter 10 The Night of Agony

Rosaline had just returned from a long day as she made her way to the bathroom, she could feel her body crying out for a hot shower. She turned on the water and stepped under the stream, feeling the hot water cascade over her skin. She closed her eyes, letting out a sigh of concern while thinking about all the tangled thoughts connected to her mother.

As she sat on the edge of her bed, her skin flushed from the heat of the shower, and her hair was still damp and tousled around her face. She looked in the mirror, admiring the way her eyes sparkled and her lips curved into a satisfied smile. But as she sat there for a few moments, she felt the tension rise inside her.

Rosaline stood up from her bed and made her way to her father's study, feeling a sense of unease. She rarely visited her father at this time of night, but she couldn't help but feel like seeing him.

"Dad?" she called out softly as she entered the room.

Maverick looked up from his desk, surprise evident on his face. "Rose? What's wrong?" he asked, concern etched on his features since his daughter had never visited him at that time at night.

"Are you busy?" Rosaline asked tentatively.

"No, not at all. What's going on?" Maverick replied, his voice gentle.

Hearing his gentle voice, she wanted to ask him so many questions, to understand more about her mother and the life they had led before she was born. But she hesitated, unsure of how her father would react.

What if she made him feel sad or upset? What if she uncovered painful memories that he had buried deep inside?

Rosaline couldn't bear the thought of hurting her father, so she kept her questions to herself and made her way over to the sofa to sit down.

"Dad, do you miss Mom?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Maverick froze for a moment, his expression softened as he looked at his daughter. He pulled her close, letting her rest her head on his shoulder.

"Yes, I do," he said softly. "Very much. Your mother was a gorgeous Omega. You take after her in many ways."

Rosaline felt a sense of comfort wash over her as she listened to her father's words. She had always admired her mother, who had passed away when Rosaline was born.

"But I got your personality," Rosaline said, trying to lighten the mood.

Maverick chuckled softly. "Well, kind of,"

They sat in silence for a few moments, both lost in their thoughts. Rosaline felt a sense of peace wash over her as she sat there with her father. She believed that he loved her and that he would always be there for her.

Finally, Maverick spoke up. "Is everything okay, Rose?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.

Rosaline hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Yeah, I'm fine," she said. "Just needed to talk to someone."

Maverick nodded, his expression understanding. "I'm always here for you, Rose,"

She looked at him and nodded as she squeezed her lips, feeling uneasy as if her father was lying, and he couldn't be there anymore. "I'll go and sleep now."

"Sure. Sleep well, dear."

As she left the room, her eyes met with Ryder's light green eyes as he was standing in the hallways, leaning on the wall.

"What're you doing here?" She frowned, feeling annoyed at his unwanted presence.

Ryden shrugged, a small smile playing at the corner of his lips, "Doing my job? Was just passing through."

"Well, okay. I'm going to bed." She said as she started to walk away.

"Care for a drink?"

Rosaline turned around, eyeing Ryder warily. She didn't know what to make of his sudden offer, and she couldn't help but wonder what his true intentions were.

"Thanks, but no thanks," she said, her voice cool.

Ryder shrugged, his smile never faltering. "Suit yourself," he said, pushing himself off the wall "Have a good night,"

Rosaline watched as Ryder turned and walked away, feeling a mix of annoyance and gratitude.

But for now, Rosaline just wanted to be alone with her thoughts. She closed the door to her room and crawled into bed, letting the silence wash over her.

As the night went deeper, Rosaline woke up with a startle, her heart pounding in her chest. She was covered in sweat, and her breathing was ragged. She sat up in bed, trying to shake off the remains of the nightmare that had just ripped through her mind.

As she swung her legs over the edge of the bed and stood up, she felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. She stumbled towards the window, hoping that the cool night air would clear her head.

But as she looked out, she gasped in horror. The mansion was on fire, the flames leaping higher and higher into the sky.

"What...What's happening?" She stumbled backwards, trembling.

Her heart lurched as she realised that her father was still there.

Without thinking, she ran out of her room and down the hallway, the heat and smoke growing more intense with each step. She stumbled and fell, the smoke burning her eyes and throat. There were burnt bodies wherever she went.

But she pushed herself up and kept going, driven by the thought of her father trapped inside.

Bianca? Benjamin!?" She cried out just to see their burnt body that almost reached the skeleton, laying on the floor in front of the door.

When she burst through the door, she saw him lying on the ground, unconscious in his wolf form. She rushed closer to see her father's black fur burnt in the fire, and his neck was covered in blood and deep wounds as if he fought with someone.

"H-Help! Somebody! Please," Rosaline tried to scream but her voice was cracked. She felt like choking up, seeing nothing but smoke around her.

"Shaan! Please help! My father," She glanced around, clutching her father's head to her chest, "He's not breathing!"

She wiped her tears and dragged her father out of the room towards the balcony, "Dad! Wake...wake up!" She wrapped his wounds, tearing her dress to stop the blood.

"Dad, you just said a few hours ago, you'll always be here for me! Why aren't you talking?" Her body racked with deep, wracking sobs that shook her to the core. She helplessly looked outside the balcony, but there wasn't a single soul. She was certain by the time that everyone had been wiped out.

"Ace!! Rayden!!!" She called out to them, her voice muffled by the tears that were streaming down her face.

"Oh my! Did you call out to us?"

Ace walked out of the shadows with a devilish smile on his face, his eyes shining like yellow flames.

"You should've taken the drink when I offered you," Ryden walked in while brushing his hair backwards, "The sleeping pill was strong in the bottle," he chuckled.

"Looking for Phantom Reaper?" Shaan stepped towards Rosaline, his aura was dangerous. His rough hands grabbed her chin as he squatted down,

"We were always beside you, princess."
