Chapter 4 Meaningless Search

"My dad told me she died after giving birth to me,"

Rosaline felt her vision getting blurry, her fingers clutched the pages on her hand, "How could this be?"

Erica sat beside her to comfort her as she uttered, "Calm down, girl. They're not sure if it's a murder or not, but, surely, she had a connection with the Phantom Reaper."

Anger rose into Rosaline's body each time she heard that name, "Who gave you the information?"

"The pack from the west. They're a reliable ally."

As soon as she finished talking, Rosaline stood up, "I understand. Thank you for your help."

"W-where are you going?" Erica asked in surprise seeing her leaving.

"...Home," Slipping out a lie, she got out of the building and walked towards the west tower, the opposite direction of Maverick's territory.

As she kept walking through the dark alley, she could smell the beasts lurking in the shadows.

"Come out!" She commanded as she took a defensive position.

The growl from the shadow came closer into the light, and it was a helpless-looking old woman, her eyesight looked bad.

Rosaline sighed, feeling safe and asked, "What are you doing here? Do you need any help?"

"Could you guide me near the bush? My daughter's cub is waiting for me."

Rosaline smiled and took her hand to walk near the bush, but she felt a strange presence within the bushes.

Soon after she went inside, a pack of wolves came out revealing their dark and light furs along with those bare teeth ready to rip off her flesh.

"Omegas..?" She mumbled, seeing a pack of wolves surrounding her.

"She reeks of Alphas. Kill her! NOW!"

The woman she helped, exclaimed as she transformed herself into a wolf, exposing her bare sharp teeths as if they'll tear her to shreds. Rosaline couldn't think why she was holding so much hatred towards Alphas. She tried to fight them off, but there were too many of them. Their fierce teeth and large claws were impossible to take down with just a dagger.

Rosaline reached out for her gun, but one of them snatched it away with its teeth.

"Fuck!" She clipped, seeing herself trapped in the middle with no way to escape.

Just as they were about to land a fatal blow, Shaan appeared out of nowhere, taking down the wolf that was about to attack with ease.

Right then, Rosaline heard a loud whistle from behind and turned around to see Ryder,

"Having fun? You dogs,"

A smirk flashed on his cheek as he took down another two.

"Talk for yourself!" Ace jumped in, sliding towards a wolf, and he grabbed its jaw to flip it down.

Rosaline was stunned. "How did you know where I was?" she asked, her voice shaking from all the struggle.

Shaan appeared from behind and spooned her up in a blink. He shrugged, his expression calm and collected as he replied,

"Part of the job."

Rosaline took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart. She knew that she owed them that time.

"Thank you," she mumbled, lowering her voice and blinking at each of them.

Shaan grinned. "What's that, princess?"

She clicked her tongue and looked away with a frown to repeat, "Thank you!"

"We're always here to save your ass as we promised," Ryder said, his voice teasing.

Rosaline rolled her eyes but she couldn't help but feel grateful for their help. "Why did they attack me?" she asked, still trying to piece together what had just happened.

Shaan nodded. "They must have sensed Maverick's Alpha scent on you and wanted to take you down."

Rosaline felt a shiver run down her spine.

"Well, that was unexpected from a mafia's daughter." Ace said, looking around warily with a smirk, "That was very soft of you. You shouldn't trust anyone easily,"

Rosaline glared at him, "What's so bad about that?"

Ryder grinned. "You'd be dead, that's what. But don't worry. We've got your back." He turned around and mumbled, "For now."

Together, they made their way inside the west tower, the omega's territory. Everyone on the road kept glaring at them as they walked near a bar.

Rosaline slowly opened the door, and everyone's gaze locked on her. Her gaze fell on the bartender who had the same tattoo as Erica on his neck. She walked towards him,

"I'm a friend of Erica's. There's something I would like to ask if that's okay with you."

The man stared at her silently, reading her expression with his light brown eyes, "Call me Raven," he nodded, "Sit there! I'm coming."

As Rosaline sat down, she glanced outside to see Ace, Shaan and Ryder standing outside, waiting for her to get out.

"So what is it that you wanted to ask?" Raven asked, making his way beside her. She passed the document to him, and Raven peeked at her after glancing at it.

After a moment of silence, Raven let out a low whistle. "This is some serious business," he said, handing the document back to Rosaline. "You're looking for information on Phantom Reaper, huh?"

Rosaline nodded, her heart racing. She knew that Phantom Reaper was a dangerous figure, but she also knew that she needed to find out more about him if she was going to know the secret behind her mother's death.

Raven leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. "I can help you," he said. "But you need to be careful. Phantom Reaper is not someone to be trifled with."

Rosaline nodded, determined to see this through as she squinted her eyes, "You sound like you know a lot about him,"

Raven chuckled softly, "Well, I wouldn't say that." He sat up, fixing his composer, "You could call it a...correct assumption?"

"Get to the point!" Her stare was cold, and her voice serious.

Raven licked his lips, "The point, huh?" He glanced outside where Ace, Shaan and Ryder were standing, "Perhaps you should-" Before he could finish, a huge crash emerged near the door of the bar, and the woman from before entered along with some injured people. "There she is! Get her!"

"Fuck! You should leave now," Raven covered Rosaline and whispered to her with his warning voice and stepped closer to the woman, "Yo! Chief, calm down."

"Don't you have anything I can contact you or something-"

"Go!" Raven exclaimed while trying to hold up the woman who seemed to be out of her mind.

"Princess!" Shaan called out her name as she jumped out of the window and fell into Ace's arms.

"Let's leave now! I'll be back later," She wrapped her hands around his neck as they rushed away. She couldn't bother making a scene there since that was a different territory.

"Don't mention a single thing about this to dad, or else I'll finish you off." She murmured in Ace's ear in a low tone as he only smirked as a reply.

On the whole way, Rosaline couldn't help but wonder why that woman behaved that way. But She couldn't realise there was a lot happening under the curtains, unaware of every single one of them.
