Chapter 2 The Confrontation

"I have an interesting idea that will not only benefit you and me but your father as well."

"You do?"

"Yes," Kenny assured. Now, Jonathan was curious as to what they wanted to say.

"A bunch of illiterate drug addicts burned down Lexington City Hall."

"And so?"

"So, we blame it on your husband."

"Call him Jonathan. I can't bear to hear the word husband!"

"Okay. What I'm saying is that we blame Jonathan. He gets arrested. Investigation begins on him, and we accuse him of embezzling the public funds - which your father will return safely into the public office. No doubt when everyone sees Cardona as a good person, they will vote him the mayor immediately."

"And then Jonathan goes to jail, and we all win. Kenny, you're a genius! That's why I love you. Kiss me..."

Out of rage, Jonathan bursts into the room, stopping their little love affair. His wife and Kenny were utterly naked. His wife's back on Kenny's chest. They were lying down like they were couples.

"What is going on in here?" Jonathan shouted.

Helen, already with a foolproof plan to get rid of Kenny, realizes she no longer has to pretend to like him.

"Didn't the orphanage teach you how to knock, dear husband?" She answers back, still on Kenny's chest.

"I come home from work and find my wife with another man, and you talk about manners? What kind of a wife are you?"

"Spare me those, please. This is my house, and I can do exactly what I want."

"I did everything for you. How could you betray me in such manners?"

"Wrong, Jonathan. My family did everything for you. We made you! You wear the clothes my father buys. You work as a sales guy in Kenny's company. You drive the car my father bought for you... A vehicle I used to use when I was in high school. What more do you want? "

" We got married, yet you bear your surname. You set conditions for the marriage. I had to even sign a prenup just for your sake. You don't know what it's like living daily like a freeloader! "

Kenny, now wearing something decent enough, decided to talk back.

"I pay you to work for me. You don't even have a single qualification. Your colleagues obtain master's degrees in marketing business management, yet I offer a high school dropout a junior position, and he isn't happy. "

" You shut your mouth, or else I'll make sure you leave this place without balls."

Kenny laughed.

" I have always been a faithful husband to you. I was convinced our love was so strong nothing could break it. "

" Love? You're so daft you don't know the difference between love and pretense. I am 22. I agreed to be my father's puppet for a year. I pretended to have feelings for you... We only used the little thing left out of you. I don't know if you're literate enough to understand that fact. "

" When you're done shedding your poor ass tears, you can leave the room. I wasn't done with Helen yet! " Kenny said, just to annoy Jonathan further. And it worked.

Jonathan grabbed a hold of Kenny's shirt, punching him severely.

" You messed with my wife! How dare you! " Jonathan shouted, punching Kenny in his jaws.

Helen, scared, screamed for help, and almost immediately, Cardona and his wife, Jane, stormed into the room.

" What is going on here? "

" Mum, Dad, Jonathan got violent and wanted to kill Kenny. "

" You shut up right there!" Jonathan demanded from his wife. " I was only showing... "

Before he could finish his sentence, Jane walked towards him, throwing her right palm on his face, causing a loud thud.

" How dare you speak to my daughter in that manner?"

" You think because we let you marry her, you can mistreat her? Who gave you that right? " Cardona asked, too, giving Jonathan his slap.

" I caught her in bed with this bastard! "

" So because you married her, you think you can control her social life? Aren't you even grateful we let you live here? Do I have to remind you how poverty-stricken you looked when you asked me for a job? If not for this family, you would've been raging the streets. "

Jonathan wanted to cry. He should've known that he did not belong in their family from the start.

" I married Helen. I have rights over her and..."

" Correction! " Jane cut him, "We let you marry our daughter, and you have no rights over her. You're not even considered an entire living thing, maybe an animal. You should be displayed in a zoo-World's best opportunistic freeloader. Look at yourself in the mirror, and what did you buy for yourself? That suit you're wearing, my husband used to wear that.
