Chapter 8 A Rainy Day

Kellan didn't go to Alyssa's room until Helena was out of sight. Alyssa's face lit up and her cheeks turned pink as he entered.

"Kellan, you are here! I'm nearly back to my old self. You've looked after me for three years. How about I care for you in return in the future?"

Throughout her illness, Kellan had been unwaveringly by her side, catering to her every whim and request. Whatever Alyssa wished for, Kellan strived to provide.

"Don't worry about it. All I want is for you to be well and lead a life as normal as anyone else," Kellan remarked, smiling gently.

Alyssa felt her heart flutter. Three years had passed, yet Kellan's feelings for her remained elusive. While everyone believed Kellan was waiting for her, only she recognized that his kindness stemmed from guilt, not love.

"You shouldn't overthink things. Rest up," he advised, noticing her reddening eyes. Avoiding further discussion, Kellan made sure she was comfortably tucked in.

"Kellan..." Alyssa began, but lost her nerve as she gazed into his attractive eyes, letting the words die on her lips.

After her shift, Helena was caught in a downpour. She hadn't brought an umbrella. Exiting the hospital to hail a taxi, she found the hospital entrance teeming with people.

With the evening rush and rain, it was hard to get a taxi.

Growing restless, Helena checked her watch. It was already 6:30.

Then she glanced at the street. It appeared that there was an unoccupied taxi in the distance, and many people were anxious to seize the opportunity and flag it down.

She rolled up her trouser legs, held her backpack above her head, and prepared to dash into the rain to catch the taxi.

But then, a hand grasped her arm.

Turning, she met Kellan's eyes.

"What are you doing?" Helena demanded, eyeing Kellan warily.

Kellan had visited the hospital to discuss a partnership. Observing that the equipment Helena had used for Alyssa's operation was outdated before, he generously donated fifty million as a token of appreciation and solidified agreements with the hospital.

Once the discussions concluded, Kellan left the hospital and noticed Helena waiting for a taxi.

He could discern from Helena's actions that she was somewhat anxious.

Kellan was about to continue observing when he noticed that she was about to sprint into the rain to catch a taxi, so he jumped in and stopped her.

What if she got sick after getting wet in the rain? Who would treat Alyssa? It wasn't that he was particularly concerned about Leena. He merely didn't want any hindrances in Alyssa's care. Kellan silently justified his actions.

"It's pouring," he remarked, gently holding her arm.

"I can see that." She glanced at him, somewhat irritated as she watched someone else grab the taxi.

"Where do you need to go? Let me give you a ride," Kellan offered.

Helena's initial instinct was to decline, but given the challenge of hailing a taxi in the current conditions, she held her tongue.

Kellan interpreted her silence as consent. Together, they waited for Rylan, presenting a stark contrast: Kellan's towering frame and Helena's daintier one.

Upon Rylan's arrival, he was taken aback to find Kellan and Helena together.

What was going on? Had Mr. Pearson finally got interested in a woman? Was he enamored with her?

"Mr. Pearson, Dr. Leena, please get in the car." Although Rylan was confused, he had to focus on his job.

Kellan took Helena's hand, leading her to the vehicle. As they departed, unbeknownst to them, Alyssa emerged from the shadows, her eyes gleaming with a malevolent intent. She clenched her fists, her nails digging into her skin.
