Chapter 10 Meeting In The Rain

Helena pushed Terry's hand away, her voice cold. "Where are my grandfather's ashes?"

"Hmph! Once you bring Mr. Pearson home, I'll reveal the location of your grandfather's ashes." Visibly angered, Terry shot Helena a fierce glance, then stormed up the stairs.

"Look at what you've done! You've enraged your father! Daniela would never act like this. You are so ungrateful! Honey, please... calm down." Gwen cast a disapproving look at Helena and followed Terry upstairs.

"Helena, just who do you think you are? I've heard that Mr. Pearson invited renowned cardiologist, Dr. Leena, to operate on Alyssa. He's been by her side at the hospital all this while. And he hasn't even met you, his newly-wedded wife. How amusing!" Daniela remarked, her arms folded smugly across her chest.

Helena merely glanced at Daniela, choosing to remain silent. Did Daniela truly believe her words could wound Helena?

"Even if that old bastard favored you enough to make Mr. Pearson marry you, he'd hardly spare you a second glance! Country bumpkin! Ah!"

Before Daniela could continue, Helena's hand met her face with a sharp slap.

"How... how dare you strike me?" Daniela touched her reddened cheek, her eyes filled with rage.

"If you dare slander my grandfather again, expect another slap. You've been wastefully spending the money from the Pearson family. You think I'm unaware? Rest assured, I'll reclaim it all."

Helena turned on her heel and stormed out, paying no heed to the sharp words thrown her way by Daniela. There was nothing left for her in this house.

Stepping out of the Wright family's villa, Helena looked to the rain-laden sky. She realized she'd left behind Kellan's umbrella, though she had no intention of returning for it.

As she thought of her late grandfather, emotions welled up. She'd been under his care since she was a child. Had he not fallen critically ill, she might never have learned her parents were still alive.

The downpour intensified. Helena quickened her pace, heading for the road. Suddenly, a sleek black car pulled up beside her. As its door swung open, a familiar deep voice said, "Get in."

"Mr. Pearson?" Helena's surprise was evident as she caught sight of Kellan. Why was he here?

"We were nearby dealing with some business," Kellan remarked.

Really? Could this be a mere coincidence? Or could Kellan have been intentionally waiting for her? Such a thought flitted across Helena's mind, but she quickly dismissed it. The notion seemed implausible. After all, why would he go out of his way to wait for her?

Her recent altercation with the Wright family, coupled with the rain soaking her, brought out a mix of emotions within her at the moment.

"Where do you plan to go now?" Kellan asked again.

"Could you drop me off at Lontan Hotel? Thank you." Although she felt a surge of gratitude towards Kellan, Helena didn't want him to sense the shift in her demeanor towards him. She promptly averted her gaze towards the window, unintentionally letting her tone soften.

"Sure."

Outside Lontan Hotel, Kellan watched Helena make her way inside. He then turned to Rylan.

"Let's go."

"Mr. Pearson, why were we waiting for Dr. Leena earlier? Why... " Rylan began to murmur, his voice reflecting a hint of complaint.

He had initially driven away from the Winflower Street, but then Kellan oddly instructed him to return despite the heavy downpour. Could it be that Mr. Pearson had fallen for...

"You're being overly inquisitive, aren't you?" Kellan interrupted, his voice dripping with impatience. Rylan instantly clamped up. He realized trying to figure out what his boss was up to was a futile endeavor.

In fact, Kellan also sought the answer to this question. Why? Why was he so interested in this woman? Was it solely because she had rescued Alyssa?

From their initial encounter, she'd kept her distance. Had he inadvertently upset her before? Racking his brains, Kellan couldn't recall ever meeting someone named Leena. Then why was her attitude so strange to him? This woman was like a mystery that aroused Kellan's curiosity.

"Rylan, investigate if I've ever interacted with her in the past," Kellan instructed.

"Understood, sir." Rylan, without needing further clarity, knew precisely whom Kellan referred to.

Rain-soaked and weary, Helena had no inclination to return to Kellan's villa. Even though Kellan hadn't returned since her move, their frequent encounters that day made her cautious.

She checked into the hotel and submerged herself into a warm bath. As she reflected on the day's events, her brow furrowed. It seemed Terry wouldn't hand over her grandfather's ashes until she fetched more favors for him from the Pearson family.

However, Kellan's disdain for their marriage was evident, as was his aversion towards her. Pleading wouldn't coax him into assisting the Wright family.

Kellan was being kind to her now was only because she had saved Alyssa's life. If he knew her true identity, he would likely avoid her. He loved Alyssa deeply, after all.

Lost in thought, Helena let out a sigh. She needed to devise a strategy to reclaim her grandfather's ashes as soon as possible.
