Chapter 6 6

I couldn't fathom it all. My father had locked me in a cellar with my hands and feet tied. He was holding me hostage.

"Why is Father doing this to me?"

I cried, looking at my father with tearful eyes. Then, I saw my bound hands and feet with ropes. This was truly cruel, a father tying up his own daughter like this.

"I won't listen to your cries, all of this is for your own good."

Good?! Being in this cramped place with my hands and feet tied like this? Wasn't this better described as torture inflicted by a father on his own daughter? It was cruel. Had my father been a psychopath all along, inflicting violence without any reason?

"Why, Father? Why are you doing this to me? What have I done wrong?"

I just cried and kept staring at the ceiling of this suffocating cellar. Slowly, my eyes closed, and I fell into a deep sleep. It felt like a very long sleep, making my body even weaker. Then, I felt a stone hitting my body, causing pain and discomfort.

"Go away, you evil vampire! Get out of our territory!!"

What was that noisy sound? Why were they shouting, and why did the air here feel colder than the last time I felt it inside the cellar? I smelled the earthy scent where I was lying down. Slowly, I opened my eyes and saw villagers throwing stones at me, harshly causing me to grimace in pain.

"Go away!! Why are you hurting me? What have I done wrong?"

"Go away from our village, evil vampire!! Go!"

"Vampire? Where? Where is the vampire? Why can't I see it?"

"You fool, you are the vampire!"

"You are the village head's child, but you have no morals and always trouble the villagers."

Me? Why were they calling me a vampire? I'm not a vampire, I'm just an ordinary woman. I saw them staring at me with fierce looks and telling me to leave the village.

"What did I do wrong? Why have they been saying I'm a vampire for so long? What have they seen that makes them say I'm a vampire?"

I walked along the road to go back to my house, and I saw my parents talking seriously. I listened and hid behind a wall.

"This is your fault because you made her our child. Now, the entire village will be in an uproar, and they will ask you to step down from your position as the village head."

I was shocked to hear what my parents were saying. So, I wasn't their biological child? Then who was I, and how did I become their child?

"How could you, Vara, our child."

"Are you stupid? Vara has always seemed strange even when we brought her home. She had peculiarities with the neck wound."

"I know that, but we have something else."

"What else?!"

Slowly, I couldn't hear their conversation until I felt a pair of eerie eyes staring at me.

"Why am I free from the cellar? Who released me?" I kept asking inside my head, although I couldn't find any answers.

"You, naughty child."

My father grabbed my hand forcefully and took me into a car, driving me away from the village.

"Where is Father taking me?"

"Stay there, Vara. Father will protect you."

"Protect me? From whom and why?"

"It's not the right time for you to know who you are."

I remained silent, holding my slightly aching head. My head hurt, and I felt like sleeping.

"Sleep, at least it's good for your body."

Slowly, I closed my eyes, not hearing any sounds and not knowing what was happening around me.

"Vara, wake up, my child."

"Father?"

"Vara, wake up."

I saw a large castle in front of me. Was Father going to marry me off to a prince and let me live peacefully inside there?

"Where is this, Father?"

"An asylum. You'll live peacefully and safely here, and no one will disturb you."
