Chapter 3 An Unexpected Encounter

"Are you telling the truth? Don't lie to me, Sam. Remember how you crashed the computer in the classroom so that classes were suspended the other day? Don't pretend like you're innocent."

"But..." Samuel pursed his lips and looked at Everleigh, looking pitiful.

He couldn't understand why his mother always suspected he was up to mischief when he was actually smart, intelligent and kind-hearted.

The teachers always pestered Samuel for help, which he had no choice but to offer in resignation.

"Mommy, I didn't do anything wrong. I promise. I was only playing a game with them. I'm hungry. Let's head home."

Everleigh was rendered speechless.

Ultimately, she let out a sigh and bid farewell to the teachers before taking her kids home.

As soon as they arrived home, Everleigh went to the kitchen to make dinner.

However, her phone rang before she finished cooking.

"Doctor Lewis, the hospital has agreed about your taking over the case. Could you please come over now?"

"Now?"

"Yes. The patient's family member has come, and they wish to talk to you right away after hearing the hospital's decision," the nurse said on the phone.

Everleigh rolled her eyes. She despised such affluent patients who thought everyone had to listen to them as if the world revolved around them.

Everleigh had no choice but to agree.

"Sam, I must go to the hospital. Can you have dinner with your sister at home?"

"Sure, Mommy. Don't worry. I will take good care of her."

Samuel waved his hand like a mature adult, gesturing for his mother not to worry about it.

Everleigh smiled. She didn't have to worry about anything when she had a supportive son.

She soon changed her clothes and left.

Meantime, as soon as Everleigh left, her son darted into her study.

"Sam, what are you doing? Mommy asked us to have dinner."

"Shh... I've got to access the principal's computer. Today, the teachers took out a photo of a boy who looked like me. He might be joining our kindergarten, so I must find out who he is."

Samuel hacked the principal's computer within a few minutes.

Soon, he found out the information about the new student.

"Wow! Sam, is that you?" Millie yelped in shock as soon as the document popped up on the screen. Her jaw dropped in shock.

Samuel frowned. "No, it isn't me. His name is Zayn Harris. Look."

He pointed at the name on the document, shaking his head in dejection.

Millie's eyes widened.

"Zayn Harris? But why does he look like you? Is he also Mommy's child?"

Samuel's eyes widened. All of a sudden, he remembered his mother frequently opening a small box and looking at a brand-new shirt of a toddler with tears in her eyes.

At that moment, he made up his mind to meet the boy who looked like him.

"The Hill Hotel," Samuel mumbled as he remembered the address he saw on the registration form.

Half an hour later, Everleigh arrived at the Klyre Hospital.

"Doctor Lewis, I'm glad you are here."

"Where is the patient's family?"

"They're waiting in the Dean's Office. Dr. Lewis, the patient's family member is quite temperamental. You better be careful while handling her," the nurse advised her.

Everleigh quickly wore her scrubs and surgical mask before going to the Dean's Office.

Then, she took a deep breath and knocked on the door. "Mr. Watson, it's me."

"Nancy, come on in. The patient's family member is here. Come and meet her."

The Dean was sweating profusely as he tried talking to the patient's family sitting opposite him.

Unfortunately, the woman seemed uptight and demanding.

The Dean breathed a sigh of relief when he heard Everleigh's voice. He frantically opened the door, for he knew only she could help him out.

Everleigh's eyes widened in surprise when she saw the Dean personally opening the door for her. But soon, she shifted her attention to the other person inside.

Her pupils dilated when she took a closer look at the person, and a surprised look crossed her face.

"Is she the capable doctor you told me about? Can she do that?"

The woman stood up when she heard the door open.

She was tall and wore delicate makeup. Her perfectly curled chestnut hair and fashionable outfit exuded arrogance.

It was Raelynn.

Everleigh never expected Raelynn to be the first acquaintance she would meet after five years.

She wondered if Raelynn was her patient.

Everleigh's eyes turned cold as she stared at her nemesis.

Everleigh's marriage with Weldon was planned when she was a child. As soon as she was born, the Lewis and Harris families decided to get her married to Weldon, who was only a five-year-old boy then.

Initially, Everleigh assumed it was a joke and didn't give much thought to the marriage arrangement, although she had been fond of Weldon since she was young.

Unfortunately, the Lewis family perished on a fateful night. Trevor took Everleigh under his wings and asked her to marry his son, intending to offer a safe and peaceful life.

It was only then that Everleigh began to give serious consideration to the marriage.

However, little did she know the marriage would be the beginning of a disastrous life.

"Sorry, I was wrong," Everleigh suddenly said.

"What?" The Dean frowned.

"I can't cure her disease. You have to find another doctor!"

With that, Everleigh turned around and left.
