Chapter 7 Same Room

Manuel had overheard the butler's words clearly. Seeing Elijah rub his eyebrows in distress and stand up, ready to deal with the mess back at home, Manuel sighed and said sincerely, "Your wife... I guess you are right about she being really interesting."

Just as Elijah returned home, he heard a scream from inside one bedroom.

Of course, it was Haisley screaming.

With a sigh, Elijah knocked on the door. When the door was opened, he met Kaylee's expressionless face.

Kaylee's clothes were neat and tidy. Haisley, on the other hand, was a complete mess; her smooth and tender face was swollen and red, and her hair was disheveled. She had spent a fortune on maintaining her beauty, and now, it had all gone to waste.

Haisley looked livid, as though she was eager to rip Kaylee to shreds, but she didn't dare to do anything. It seemed that she had already tried, which was how she ended up in this mess in the first place.

When Elijah saw this scene, his eyebrows shot up in surprise.

It was the first time that he had seen his sister like this.

As soon as Haisley saw Elijah, her eyes lit up as though she had seen her savior. She shouted, "You came back at the right time, Elijah! Look at your wife—she dared to beat me like this as soon as she married into our family. You'd better teach her a lesson!"

Kaylee stated the truth calmly. "She threw my things away. They're very important to me."

Haisley spat angrily, "It was just a pile of trash. Was I wrong to throw them away?"

A pile of trash? Kaylee's expression darkened.

With a cold face, she turned to look at the whimpering girl and warned, "Haisley Stephens, if I hear you spew rubbish again, I promise I'll beat you so hard that you won't be able to speak again."

Thinking of how ruthless Kaylee was just now, a shiver ran down Haisley's spine and she shut up immediately, albeit sulkily.

Just then, the butler returned with Kaylee's things. Looking at the medical books on the top, which were all in Arabic, Elijah was a little stunned. "You can understand Arabic?"

Kaylee glanced at him expressionlessly while taking her things back from the butler. "It's none of your business."

Then she faced the butler and requested politely, "Please arrange a room for me."

Thinking about the birthmark on Kaylee's back, Elijah ordered, "You're staying in my room."

Frowning, Kaylee demanded, "What's that supposed to mean?"

Elijah put on his most frivolous smile. "Aren't we a married couple now? Of course we should live in the same room!"

Then he approached her and whispered so that only she could hear, "Besides, this might be a marriage of convenience. Surely you wouldn't want others to find out that we've separated on our first night together, would you?"

Kaylee soon calmed down. "You're right. In that case, I'll sleep on the bed and you sleep on the sofa. Thank you for your cooperation."

These days, Gemma had been really anxious.

Because she had promised Molly that she'd get Tide to check on Keegan, she was forced to spend a fortune to get information on the mysterious doctor. However, since Tide was too untraceable, she got nothing.

Suddenly, one day, Gemma received a strange call. She was told that if she wanted to know information on Tide, she should go to the Splendine Cafe.

Gemma couldn't give up any chance to locate Tide, so she rushed to the cafe as soon as she got the call.

Unexpectedly, it was Kaylee who was waiting for her there. She was sitting at a table, drinking coffee leisurely.

Gemma refused to believe that Kaylee knew anything about Tide. It made more sense to her that Kaylee was playing tricks on her, so she immediately flew into a fit of rage. "Kaylee! How dare you prank me like this?"

"I have some information on Tide," Kaylee said directly, not wanting to waste her breath on this fool.

Gemma scowled at her. "You? I don't believe you."

Kaylee held up a pendant in front of Gemma and explained, "This is the symbolic token of that mysterious doctor. Don't you recognize it? That doctor will only show up and check on the patient if you have this token."

Gemma's eyes lit up. She was so anxious that she reached out to grab the pendant. "Give it to me!"

When they were waiting to hear about Keegan's condition the other day, Gemma had heard a lot about Tide. Of course, she knew about that doctor's symbolic token. But what she couldn't wrap her head around was the fact that Kaylee actually knew Tide.

Kaylee deftly withdrew her hand before Gemma could grab the pendant. "Gemma, you do know I'd never help you for free, right?"

Gemma loathed Kaylee. Begging Kaylee for help was worse than killing her. But at this moment, Gemma could only swallow her anger and ask through gritted teeth, "What the hell do you want?"

Kaylee smiled. "It's simple. Give me back my sapphire necklace."

Ever since Kaylee was a baby in the orphanage, she had a sapphire necklace. It was the most precious thing she owned.

But many years ago, when she still lived with the Hadley family, Gemma had stolen her necklace.

The reason why Gemma took the necklace was because she knew that it was very precious to Kaylee. Now that Kaylee was asking Gemma to give it back to her, the latter was not reconciled.

After thinking for a while, Gemma smiled and announced, "I'll give you the necklace after you bring Tide to the Reynolds family's house."

Knowing what was on Gemma's mind, Kaylee said slowly, "If you don't give me the necklace, I'll visit Miss Lambert instead. I heard that she spent a lot of money looking for Tide. I'd rather make a deal with her. I also heard that she'd had a huge crush on Harland Reynolds for a long time. I wonder if Mrs. Reynolds will let Miss Lambert marry Harland as soon as after she saves Mr. Reynolds's life."

Kaylee had hit the nail on the head. Gemma was doing everything in her power to find Tide because she was hell-bent on marrying Harland. She couldn't let anyone get ahead of her!

In the end, Gemma had no choice but to go back and fetch the necklace for Kaylee.

The necklace was exquisitely crafted, and the patterns on it were delicate and elegant. It looked antique, too, as if it had been passed down for many generations.

Kaylee inspected the necklace carefully. After finding that there was nothing wrong, she told Gemma that Tide would appear at the Reynolds family's house at eight o'clock the following morning.

Gemma arrived at the Reynolds family home much earlier than eight o'clock. Together with Molly, the two women waited for Tide's arrival with bated breath.

At eight o'clock sharp, Kaylee showed up at the Reynolds family's door in a wig, a mask that obscured her face, and a unisex outfit.
