Chapter 6 Alter Ego

Just as the hem of Kaylee's blouse was about to be lifted up by Elijah, there was a knock at the door.

"Sir, your father's asking to see you in the study," a servant announced from outside the door.

A trace of impatience flashed through Elijah's eyes. He had to give up checking the birthmark—at least for now. He let go of Kaylee and stormed out of the room.

As soon as he entered the study, he plopped down on the sofa and made himself comfortable.

His father, Ezra Stephens, was furious to see him like this. He scolded, "Sit up properly! My God, Elijah! You're already in your twenties! Stop being such a child and act your age for once!"

Not only did Elijah ignore him, but he even closed his eyes lazily.

"I've always been like this. It's not the first time you've seen me act like this, right? So, what's up? Why'd you ask to see me?"

Ezra could do nothing about his rebellious idiot of a son, so he had no choice but to go straight to the point. "Ask your friends if there's any news about Tide. Mr. Reynolds is seriously ill now. If we can help the Reynolds family find Tide, it'll benefit the future cooperation between our two clans."

After hearing what Ezra had to say, Elijah yawned and stood up from the sofa. "Are you done? I'm going to bed."

Ezra was so angry that he picked up the ashtray on the desk and threw it at his son. "Enough! I can't believe I raised such a stupid son!"

Without any change of expression on his face, Elijah dodged sideways, and the ashtray crashed into the wall behind him. He turned a deaf ear to Ezra's yelling and said, "Didn't you say that all my friends are stupid? Well, you're right. They can't help us. You're better off asking someone else."

Without waiting for a response, he turned around and left the study, leaving Ezra cursing angrily.

It seemed that Elijah was going to play his role as a playboy to the end. It was his wedding night, yet instead of being with his wife, he went straight to the bar.

In a private room in the bar.

"Dude, how could you leave your bride alone on your wedding night?"

Ignoring his friend Manuel Garrett's teasing, Elijah savored another sip of wine.

Manuel was also wealthy. His family was engaged in the oil business and was incomparably rich.

Five years ago, when he met Elijah in Sraso, he was completely blown away by Elijah's knack for business. Now, they were best friends.

Seeing that Elijah didn't say anything, Manuel asked curiously, "So, how's your wife?"

Thinking of Kaylee's scarred face, a hint of curiosity flashed in Elijah's eyes. "She's very interesting."

Manuel was shocked by Elijah's answer. "This is the first time I've ever heard you say that a woman's interesting. Was it love at first sight?"

Elijah frowned and retorted, "How could I fall in love with someone I was forced to marry?"

Besides, his heart was reserved for someone else...

Although that girl was already dead, she would always have a special place in his heart that no one could replace.

Behind closed doors, Elijah wasn't as frivolous and aloof as usual, but calm and indifferent.

As his best friend, Manuel knew that this so-called "playboy" thing was just a facade Elijah put on. He knew how powerful and terrible this man really was.

Actually, Elijah had another identity; he was actually the president of MT Healthcare.

MT Healthcare was a very mysterious company that was engaged in the medical field and was very powerful, but the outside world knew very little about it.

And even though Manuel was close to Elijah, he didn't know much about the company his friend ran.

Suddenly, Elijah's phone rang, and the butler's anxious voice came from the other end of the line. "Mr. Stephens, please come back as soon as possible! Miss Stephens, she... She..."

Knowing how arrogant and domineering his sister was, Elijah asked, "Did Haisley bully my wife?"

The butler blurted, "No, it's the other way around! Mrs. Stephens is beating your sister—she locked them inside the room now and we can't get in!"
