Chapter 6 Shamed

If Kallie couldn't have the operation in Violetmage, then she'd have to try in the next city over.

She doubted the Marshalls had control over the entire country.

Kallie was deep in thought when her phone suddenly rang.

Startled, she looked down and found that it was a call from her mother's doctor. She answered it immediately, worried that it had something to do with her mother.

"Hello?" The doctor's voice sounded from the other end of the line.

"Dr. Morris, did something happen to my mother?" Kallie asked anxiously, her nerves suddenly tensing up.

Her mother, Irene, had currently been staying in a sanatorium. Kallie usually visited her every week.

Irene's condition was unstable, but most of the time, she was conscious and sober.

Dr. Ameer Morris was Irene's attending director.

Therefore, getting a call from Dr. Morris didn't bode well. Kallie instinctively felt that something bad had happened to her mother.

"A superior has ordered that your mother be discharged from the facility at once. Please come and complete the discharge formalities as soon as possible," Ameer said with a heavy sigh.

Kallie was stunned.

How could this be happening?

Rheingold Sanatorium was the best-not just in Violetmage, but in the whole country.

Moreover, Irene was supposed to undergo surgery the following week for her brain tumor.

If she was kicked out of Rheingold Sanatorium, no one could perform her operation.

Her expression darkened. She knew better than anyone else what that meant.

"Doctor, why is this happening?" Kallie took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down.

After a moment of silence, Ameer sighed heavily. "I don't know the specifics, but it was ordered by my superior."

"I see. I'll be right there."

Ameer didn't say anything more. The call was soon ended.

Gripping the phone tightly in her hand, Kallie stood there anxiously, at a loss as to what to do. In the span of one day, her life was being turned around for the worse.

No one in Violetmage was capable of doing something like this-that was, except Bellamy.

This had to be Bellamy's doing.

Taking a deep breath, Kallie turned around quickly. Instead of going straight to the sanatorium, she took a taxi to the Marshall Group.

She was going to confront Bellamy.

Bellamy was forcing her into a corner.

Kallie lowered her head and laughed at herself bitterly. She thought she had finally freed herself from his clutches, but it turned out that she was dead wrong.

Bellamy knew her weakness, and now, he was using it against her, forcing her to bow to him and beg for mercy.

Kallie smiled angrily.

Thirty minutes later, the taxi pulled into the gate of the Marshall Group.

When Kallie saw Rosie Dixon, Bellamy's secretary, had come to meet her at the lobby personally, she was neither humble nor pushy.

"Ma'am, please come with me," Rosie said with a professional smile plastered on her face.

Kallie nodded and followed Rosie to Bellamy's office.

After getting Kallie settled in the waiting room, Rosie left quietly.

Unexpectedly, Bellamy made Kallie wait. One hour passed, and then two. Then three...

During this waiting period, Kallie refused to drink or eat. She simply patiently waited for Bellamy.

It wasn't until the clock struck 4 o'clock in the afternoon that the door was finally opened.

Bellamy tall figure loomed over her.

Smiling complacently, he said, "Didn't you say you had nothing to do with me? Why'd you come back?"

Kallie didn't reply at first.

Bellamy was tall and muscular, and his expression was cold and alienating. One glance from him was enough to send shivers down their spine.

The petite Kallie was no match for Bellamy at all.

Finally, she took a deep breath and said, "I'll give birth to the baby on the condition that my mother isn't transferred to another sanatorium. She can't bear the trouble. The operation next week has to be carried out as scheduled."

Kallie laid out her terms clearly.

With his hands in the pockets, Bellamy eyed her sharply.

Kallie met his piercing gaze calmly.

Suddenly, a hand shot out and grabbed her by the chin.

He was rough.

"What's wrong? You still don't want to carry my baby?" Bellamy could easily tell that she didn't want to do this.

"Exactly, Mr. Marshall." Kallie looked at Bellamy calmly.

Bellamy's expression darkened.

"After all, I'm nothing to you. Isn't it natural for me to not want to be used? We don't love each other. I was about to divorce you and start a new life, but my hopes were shattered into pieces because of you. How can I not be mad?" Kallie explained expressionlessly.

The look in Bellamy's eye was somewhat unfathomable.

Without giving Bellamy the chance to speak, Kallie continued, "Hanna came back with her fiance. Now, you've resorted to using such a dirty, pathetic trick to provoke her. Have you no shame?"

In their three years of marriage, Kallie was as quiet and submissive as a kitten. She always kept her presence small.

But now, she was suddenly as sharp and fierce as a wildcat.

Bellamy would get scratched if he wasn't careful enough.

Instead of getting angry, Bellamy burst into laughter. "Why should I feel ashamed?"

His indifferent attitude made her feel both surprised and anxious, as though she was suddenly sitting on pins and needles.

She couldn't figure out what was on Bellamy's mind.

"I can't let Hanna risk having a baby because she's in poor health. But that doesn't change the fact that the Marshall family still needs a successor-a legal heir," Bellamy spelled it out for Kallie.

As it dawned on her, Kallie's face changed.

"I was too lenient with Hanna, and now, she's uncontrollable and wild. When she gets tired of making trouble, she'll come back to me. As for you... As soon as you give birth to the baby, our marriage will be over, and this time for good. Why should I feel ashamed when I'm getting everything I want?"

Bellamy added coldly, "The woman I'm going to marry is still with me, and I'll be able to produce an heir thanks to you."

These words were like a knife to Kallie's heart.

It sounded like Bellamy was mocking Kallie for everything she had sacrificed for him these past few years.

Suddenly, a faint smile tugged at the corners of Kallie's face.

Bellamy frowned.

Kallie pulled Bellamy's hand away calmly and locked eyes with him seriously.

Bellamy glanced at his empty hand and said nothing.

Then, Kallie's icy-cold voice rang out. "Bellamy, have you ever had any feelings for me?"

Bellamy's expression softened.

He understood what she meant. Although they had only been married for three years, they had known each other for much longer than that.

Their paths had crossed a long time ago.

Truth be told, Bellamy had spent more time with Kallie than with Hanna.

Hanna was the spoiled daughter of the Reynolds family. Whenever she lost her temper, no one could stop her.

Bellamy didn't agree when Hanna announced that she'd study abroad, but she still left without hesitation, and Bellamy couldn't stop her.

With Hanna gone, it was Kallie who accompanied Bellamy.

Their marriage lasted three whole years, but before that, the two had known each other for at least ten.

Kallie often wonder if Bellamy had any feelings for her. At some pointM she even started to believe that Bellamy cared about her-even just a little-since he had kept her by his side for so many years.

However, Bellamy's reply to her now was cruel. "No."

After a while, the smile on Kallie's face faded. She stood in front of Bellamy expressionlessly.

Bellamy looked down at her and asked, "What? Did you really think I'd fall in love with you?"

Kallie didn't say anything, because Bellamy's words had snuffed the life out of her.
