Chapter 7 Gift with strings attached

Meanwhile....

As Jason and Max walked back to the rooming house after watching the soccer match at the bar, they couldn't stop arguing about the game they had just witnessed. It was a tense match, and both of them had differing opinions about how it had played out.

"I can't believe you think that was a red card offense," Jason grumbled, his arms crossed over his chest.

"It was a clear foul, Jason," Max countered, rolling his eyes. "I don't know why you insist on defending players who don't deserve it."

The argument continued until they finally arrived at their house, where they were surprised to see a delivery man waiting outside their door with a bouquet of flowers and a large box of chocolates.

"Those are for Sarah," the delivery man explained as he handed over the gifts. "Her secret admirer sent them."

Jason scowled at the mention of Sarah's secret admirer. It had been days since the mysterious gifts had started arriving, remembering the one from work and it was starting to get on his nerves.

"Why does she insist on playing these stupid games?" he muttered as he eyed the gifts with distaste. "I'm tempted to just throw them away."

Max placed a hand on Jason's shoulder. "Don't be like that," he said. "You know how much Sarah values these gifts. If you throw them away, you'll just upset her."

Jason grumbled but reluctantly took the gifts from the delivery man. "Fine," he said. "We'll give them to her. But it's not like she needs any more gifts from some rich obsessed guy."

As they entered the house, they found Sarah sitting on the couch next to Emma, scrolling through her phone. She looked up as they walked in and raised an eyebrow when she saw the gifts in their hands.

"For me?" she asked, a smile spreading across her face.

Jason handed over the flowers and chocolates, trying to hide his annoyance. "Yeah," he muttered. "Your secret admirer strikes again."

Sarah's eyes widened as she opened the box of chocolates. "These are expensive," she said, looking up at them in surprise.

Max grinned. "Looks like your secret admirer is stepping up his game," he teased.

Sarah shook her head. "I wish he would just reveal himself," she said. "It's getting ridiculous."

Jason cleared his throat. "Speaking of revealing feelings," he said, shifting uncomfortably. "There's something I need to ask you, Sarah."

Sarah looked up, surprised. "What is it?"

Jason took a deep breath. "I know we've been friends for a long time, but lately, I've been feeling you're hiding something" he said, his voice hesitant.

Sarah's eyes widened in surprise, and for a moment, she didn't say anything. Then she smiled. "I think I've fallen in love with this mysterious guy," she said.

A rush of anger flooded through Jason as he heard her words. "Really?" he asked, annoyed.

Sarah nodded. "Yeah. I just wasn't sure how to bring it up, I was Scared you'd lecture me," she admitted.

Jason grinned, feeling irritated."He's just a random guy," Jason said, clearly frustrated.

"He's not just a random guy," Sarah shot back, her voice rising. "He's been sending me the most beautiful messages and gifts, and you don't know how that feels."

"I don't understand how you can be so infatuated with someone you don't even know," Jason said, shaking his head.

Sarah's face grew red with anger. "You wouldn't understand. You've never been in love with someone like this," she yelled.

"I've always been there for you, and now you're pushing me away because of some mystery man?" Jason retorted.

"You've been there, yes, but you don't know how it feels to be swept off my feet," Sarah said, her voice softening.

Jason looked at her, sadness filling his eyes. "I just don't want to see you get hurt. What if he's not who he says he is?"

"He's not like that," Sarah insisted.

"How can you be so sure?" Jason asked.

"Because I have faith," Sarah replied, the conviction in her voice evident.

"But what if he turns out to be a disappointment, or worse, a fraud?" Jason said, his voice full of concern.

"I won't know until I take the risk," Sarah said, determination in her voice.

"I just don't want to see you get hurt," Jason said, his voice trailing off.

The tension between them was palpable as they stood in silence, both lost in their thoughts. Jason's frustration and Sarah's determination seemed to clash with each other.

Finally, Jason sighed and said, "I need a shower." He turned to leave, and Sarah watched him go, feeling hurt and angry.

As soon as he left, Sarah turned to their housemates, Max and Emma, and said, "He just doesn't understand. He's never been in love like this."

"Maybe he doesn't understand, but that doesn't mean you have the right to say hurtful things to him," Emma said sternly.

"I know," Sarah replied, feeling guilty. "It's just so frustrating."

"I can understand that," Max said, his voice kind. "But you need to remember that Jason is your friend. He's only concerned for your well-being."

"I know," Sarah said, her voice soft. "I just wish he could see things my way."

Max and Emma exchanged glances, both knowing that Sarah was stubborn and determined to do things her way, no matter what anyone else said.

As the evening went on, Sarah's anger grew, and she couldn't help but feel isolated and alone. She knew that what she had said to Jason was hurtful, but she couldn't bring herself to apologize.

Eventually, Sarah made her way to bed, feeling frustrated and alone. She lay there, staring at the ceiling, wondering if she had made the right decision to pursue her secret admirer.

As she drifted off to sleep, Sarah knew that there was no turning back now. She had taken a risk, and she had to live with the outcome.....
