Chapter 9 The Rose-Shaped Birthmark

The room fell into tense silence.

Gemma didn't expect her lie to be exposed so soon. She hurriedly tried to defend herself, babbling, "A friend of mine knows you! I asked her to invite you here. She showed me your token and said you'd come."

Trying hard not to laugh, Kaylee pretended to be confused. "What are you talking about? I haven't received a token from anyone recently."

Gemma was completely dumbfounded. "How could it be possible? I..."

Kaylee shook her head firmly. "No one has come to make an appointment with me lately. I came here on my own accord."

She wasn't lying. After all, she was Tide. She wouldn't make an appointment with herself!

Only then did it dawn on Gemma that Kaylee had tricked her.

Kaylee had taken the necklace back, but she didn't fulfill her end of the deal!

Gemma felt both angry and anxious. She didn't know what to do. In the end, she had no choice but to put an end to the ruse by admitting that she indeed lied about being friends with Tide.

Molly was a woman of principle. She hated liars the most, so she asked someone to drive Gemma out.

"Miss Hadley, you'd better not come here again. People like you aren't welcome here," she said coldly.

With a red face, Gemma ran out in tears.

Unexpectedly, as soon as she ran out, she saw her well-dressed mother standing at the door. Josie was grinning from ear to ear, as if she had heard some good news.

When Gemma ran out, Josie was too happy to notice the devastated look on Gemma's face. "Gemma, you saved Mr. Reynolds's life! Mrs. Reynolds must be very grateful to you, right?"

Humiliated and pissed off, Gemma shouted at her mother angrily, "This is all your fault! Why did you tell everyone that I knew Tide? Tide just said that he didn't know me at all! Now, not only was I humiliated, but Mrs. Reynolds hates me now!"

Upon hearing this, Josie's face fell. She asked flusteredly, "How could this be? Let's go and apologize to Mrs. Reynolds right now!"

Gemma cried bitterly, "We can't! They just kicked me out! Mrs. Reynolds told me never to step foot inside this house again!"

This was all Kaylee's fault! Gemma was so angry that she wanted to kill Kaylee with her bare hands.

She took out her phone and dialed Kaylee's number, intending to give her an earful. However, the call didn't get through.

Gemma was driven mad. She threw her phone on the ground and stomped on it, swearing to make Kaylee pay for what she had done!

In the Reynolds' living room.

Molly was very grateful to Tide. She held Kaylee's hand and thanked her repeatedly, "Thank you! Thank you so much for saving my husband!"

Kaylee nodded politely. "You're welcome. Of course, it's a doctor's duty to save lives."

Molly told her to wait for a moment. She went upstairs to take a quaint jewelry box. Inside lay a delicate, expensive-looking emerald ring.

Molly asked Kaylee to keep the ring as a token of her gratitude. "If you need any help, take this ring and come to us, okay? We will definitely help you at all costs."

Kaylee wanted to refuse, but Molly was sincere and kept on insisting that she take the ring.

It was hard to refuse Molly's kindness, so Kaylee had to take it in the end. "Thank you."

Holding the jewelry box in her hand, Kaylee pretended to ask casually, "I've heard that the Reynolds Group and the Stephens Group have been working together for many years and are good partners. Mr. Reynolds even served as the witness at the Elijah Stephens' wedding."

Kaylee had just saved Keegan's life, so Molly told her everything she knew without scruples. "Yes, our company and theirs have cooperated for over ten years. Our relationship with them is good, but it's all just business; in reality, we aren't really that close to them. Besides, the Stephens Group isn't as simple as it seems."

Hearing that, Kaylee narrowed her eyes with intrigue. "What do you mean?"

Molly didn't get involved in the Reynolds Group's business, so she said helplessly, "I'm afraid I don't know much."

Kaylee's expression was serious.

After saying goodbye to Molly, Kaylee went to a hotel to change her clothes. Then she went back to the Stephens' as soon as possible.

Fortunately, neither Haisley nor Elijah were home, which meant that the bedroom was empty. Kaylee took out the medical book she received the day before yesterday and leafed through it.

As expected, there was a letter wedged inside the book.

There were only a few words in the letter--

"I'm going far away to travel. Don't worry about me. Yours, Horace."

Horace Vaughn was an extremely mysterious master. Kaylee met him by chance many years ago, and he was the one who taught her a lot of things. She respected him very much.

Reading the words on the letter, Kaylee sighed slightly.

Horace had always been mysterious. She didn't know when she'd see him again now that he left again.

After putting away the letter, she decided to take a shower.

Unexpectedly, as soon as she took off her clothes, she heard the door open, and then saw Elijah come in.

She was only in her underwear. Bewildered, Elijah's gaze landed on something on her back. It was the rose-shaped birthmark!
