Emma and Nicole walked along a street in Demoria. They were headed for a cafeteria where Emma would have her meeting with her interviewer from DCI.
"Thank you for coming with me, Nicole, I'm so nervous..." Emma said as they approached the cafeteria. "Don't worry about it, what are besties for?" Nicole replied, then continued, "You shouldn't be nervous, you're an awesome designer. I'm sure the interviewer, whoever he is, will be blown away..."
Emma smiled at Nicole. They had stopped in front of the cafeteria entrance, and whatever was going to play out at the cafeteria would determine if Emma's dreams would live or die.
As Emma hugged Nicole, she felt a cold chill in her bones again. She quickly let go of Nicole like something had startled her, and Nicole asked, "What's going on?"
Emma stared at Nicole for a moment then replied, shaking her head, "It's nothing, I'll go in now..."
Nicole stared at Emma as she walked into the cafeteria and as the glass door shut, "You know I'm old enough to be on my own without a babysitter, right?" Nicole asked, moving her Iris to the left.
Suddenly a woman's voice sounded behind her, "You have so much potential as a DARK ANGEL, but you waste it frolicking with these humans."
Nicole turned around, and came face to face with the woman in black, the same woman with whom Daniel had spoken to before. She stood in her usual pose with her head down and her hat covering her face. She wore her usual leather Jacket and carried a black cane with a golden handle.
"Why don't you go play daddies messaged somewhere else Athena. This is my life and I chose how I live it," Nicole said, folding her arms on her chest.
The lady in black raised her head, revealing her crimson red eyes. She was more beautiful than any human could comprehend, but then again, humans had not the ability to gaze upon such beauty. Only those of the higher order could ever see the unseen, feel the unfelt and hear the unheard.
The Dark angels and gods existed on a different plane than humans, and only with their permission were they ever revealed to the human eyes.
"I will leave you be, Nicole, but know this, that with whom you roam with has been offered to the demons of the underworld as sacrifice and her fate is to die by their hands, do not interfere or else..." Athena said, then walked past Nicole.
"She senses your presence, you know? Every time you stop by she feels a chill in her bones. She might not know what it means yet, but don't you think that's rather strange? No human should be able to sense your presence..." Nicole asked.
Athena stopped, then turned her face to the left, and replied, "Like I said before, she has been offered as a sacrifice to demons, therefore she exists between the plane of the higher order and the human realm. This gives her the ability to at least feel our presence in the world but not see us without our permission."
After Athena said this, she vanished into thin air. Nicole let out a sigh, then walked into the cafeteria, and sat at a small distance from the interview. "What did you ever do to deserve being a sacrifice..." Nicole asked, staring at Emma.
"My name's Emma, Emma Jackson. I'm an aspiring designer who really wants to work at your firm." Emma said with a big smile as she shook the interviewer's hand.
"Hey, you're the girl who almost got killed during the gang fight at the white wings club!" He said. "Well I didn't really go there on my own accord. My friend pulled me there..." Emma replied with a nervous laugh.
My name is Bruce Coldheart. I'm a Human resource manager at DCI. My sister told me you had talent, and I'm here to see it. Impress me!"
"His last name though, is that a bad sign?" Emma thought to herself, then pulled out her drawing sheets from a large bag she carried around her shoulder.
She placed them on the table and pushed them towards Bruce. "This is... A lot" Bruce said, picking up the stack of papers. "I... Thought I'd do more than just one to be on the safer side..." Emma said.
Sweat started rolling down her face as she watched Bruce go through her sheets. She was already at the edge of her seat and her fists were clenched tightly. "These are really amazing..." Bruce said with a smile. The tension in Emma's body came down as she let out a sigh, "Thank goodness," She said.
"WAIT!" Bruce exclaimed suddenly. "What's wrong sir?" Emma asked. "This work, where did you get it?" Bruce asked, throwing one of the sheets towards Emma. "This is my work. I made this a few days ago at an art studio..." Emma replied, picking up the paper.
"Who do you think you're lying to?" Bruce accused. "What?" Emma said at a loss for words. Bruce pulled his phone from his pocket, and opened the company's application portal. "Someone submitted this work at dci.co yesterday, and she has already been invited to the firm for an interview!" Bruce said angrily.
"I... I don't know..." Emma stuttered, "What do you have to say for yourself? Did you steal all these other works as well?" Bruce asked. "No! I don't don't know how this happened..." Emma said as tears gathered in her eyes.
Bruce got up from his seat and dropped some cash on the table for the bill. "Excuse me. You're lucky you're not getting arrested for this..." He said, then walked out of the cafeteria.
Emma could see her dreams walk out the door with him. Everything she worked so hard for was beginning to crumble before her eyes.
As she placed her head on the table, crying, Nicole walked to her and asked, "Hey what happened?"
"He accused me of theft..." Emma said. She couldn't find the energy to raise her head. "Theft? But you worked your butt off day and night for this interview..."
"He said... Someone else submitted my work at the company's site yesterday and she has already been invited for an interview," Emma said.
Nicole stared at her with a sad expression on her face, "I'm sorry..." She said, Emma got up from her seat and turned around to leave. "Hey Emma!" Nicole called out, but Emma refused to answer. Emma walked out the cafeteria door, and walked back the way she came without uttering a single word.
The sounds of cars and buses on the street were loud, but to Emma, nothing was louder than her thoughts at this point. "Is this it?" She asked herself.
Daniel sat in his office with his eyes on his computer screen, he had been sitting there all day doing his usual job of creating and submitting new designs for the company.
Suddenly a knock sounded on his office door. "Come in..." He said, then the door creaked open. A young lady walked into his office, and he raised his head to see who she was.
"Good afternoon sir, I'm the applicant who was invited for an interview yesterday," She said. Daniel offered her a seat and asked, "What is your name?"
As the lady made herself comfortable on the seat, she replied, "My name is Tasha, Tasha Romani."
