Chapter 2 The battle of the fangs

Riven's POV

The morning came as the sunlight focused on my eyelids penetrating my pupils. I woke up yawning and stretching. The warmth saturated the forest causing the mist to fade as it gave way to the bright blue sky. The wild fang shadow pack was already up all waiting for me to wake up. They didn't want to disturb me following the instructions of the my mother.

"Son, you're finally awake. So may we proceed?", she asked, rising to her feet while the rest of the pack joined her to do the same.

"Yes, we should", I acceded, leading the way. I lifted my hands and placed it on my neck to discover that the wound has healed. Now, I could feel a greater strength welling up in me.

I arrived at the arena with my pack and my beta followed with my right hand. The dark moon packs had already assembled with a few other different packs, maybe they were their captives. They snarled at us booing with their aggressive voice. I had always waited for this day when I can show my pack that I am truly a descendant of the late alpha king Cyrus Jones, the Great. While I was thinking about this, I scented an sweet smelling scent around the arena. My wolf jumps in joy insinuating that it was my mate at close range. I glanced at the throng to see a red head staring at me and as I tried to catch a glimpse of her, I got distracted and lost track of her.

The jingling of the bell brought me back to concentration as it conveyed a message that the duel was about to commence. Alpha Brock Stiles stepped into the ring surrounded by a pack of onlookers. Earlier, I saw him whisper to his beta, setting an evil smirk on his face. I knew something wasn't right. I guess he was the one who escaped last night. Even though, I didn't see his face, my instincts can be wrong that he was the one.

"Well, well, well, look who we have here" he drawled, putting a mischievous smile on his muzzle.

"I should be saying that because you were the scary cat yesterday. You sent your damn dogs to finish me off but I ended up killing them", I retorted back while I furrowed my monobrow.

" They're not dogs but werewolves you fool!", Brock's tone rose and fell at the same," I guess they were too weak to do the job so l'm gonna do that now"

We were moving in circles waiting for one of us to launch an attack. The pack was getting bored as they pointed their thumbs downwards wearing an expression that said' not impressive'.They badly needed an action so l had to grant their wish.

"You know, you're a wuss that's why you declined my proposal yesterday"I blurted out, trying to make him get angry.

"Say that again and I would skin you alive", he threatened with fury in his red eyeballs.

"I said you're a wuss and not worthy to be called an alp...."

I was interrupted by his sharp claws slashing at my chest. It worked, I got him annoyed and I'm now attacked by his wolf. Dark furs sprouted out of his skin while his bones snapped transforming him into a werewolf. I also shifted into my werewolf form as my eyes blazed crimson red. Those were the eyes of a demon. The centaur leaped at me slashing and scratching at a super speed I couldn't avert.

He whacked his stiff hands roughly at me, sending me crashing into the wall. I stood up feeling less pain and an intimidating smirk came on my face while I summoned my monstrous nature. My canines stretched assuming the length of a very acute sword. My gray furs narrowed in needlike form increasing my size twice as he was. I could see the expression on Brock's face as he was really intimidated by my new look. Rotating in extreme agility, I assaulted him continuously, shoving my acute claws into his body. At every hit I gave, his packs kept exclaiming 'shit'.At last, he fell to his knees and was at the mercy of my feet.

"Go ahead, finish what you started" he scowled in a drawl, blood gushing out of his mouth while he gave an annoying laughter.

His chest had been torn open by my claws. I still wondered how he survived my hit as no one has ever done that. Perhaps, he was strong but was no match for me.

"Alright, your wish is my command,my king", I mocked him before chopping off his head with my dreaded fangs.

The whole pack remained silent but after a while, they stood up to applaud me in a frenzy. However, something happened; Matt Odinson,the beta of the dark moon pack rioted in a stampede, protesting with his pack as they shifted into their werewolf form. My acute sense quickly recalled what the late alpha king commanded his beta to do if he lost the duel. It rang vividly inside my low-set ears, "Don't accept defeat, make sure you kill them all!".Although my pack were vigilant, we recorded few deaths as there was a fierce bloodbath.

Finally, we overpowered them and the few left scampered away from Illadora. Every now and then, they kept making plans to attack the kingdom and take over but weren't successful in their schemes.

Audrey's POV

The wild fang shadow pack has finally conquered the city. The whole pack was busy exploring the wonderful areas of the kingdom to feel at home. Everyone was busy and elated except my Riven who was standing on the balcony of the castle holding up a glass of wine to his lips. I walked slowly to him, sliding my hands against the balustrade. His countenance was not bright as something was the reason for his paleness. I'm his mother so l had to find out why he seemed to be perplexed.

"You don't seem to be happy at our victory, or are you haunted with guilt that you had to eliminate him?", I broke his silence.

My voice didn't startle him because he just stared at me before gulping his drink."It's nothing mom, just that I feel stressed out", he responded, taking another long sip from his glass.

"Stop giving me those flimsy excuses, I know you're not telling me something", my tone rose and fell at the same time.

"Or is there something I should know?", I asked him gently in a mild tone.

He heaved a sigh of relief before commencing, "Mom, I felt the bond earlier today at the arena but didn't see who it was"

"You know an alpha is nothing without his mate", he shrugged, turning his back to face the overview again.

"Ok, if that's the problem; you don't have to worry 'cause I'm gonna arrange a ball inviting all the high-rank she wolves so we can see if your supposed mate attends ", I explained to him, caressing his broad shoulders.

"Hmmm, that sounds like a perfect plan," he thought, pacing around the marble floor.

"You know Mother, you're really smart. Thanks mom", he remarked, spreading his arms for a hug.

"Anything to make you happy, "I said while hugging him tightly.

I quickly ordered the scout to dispatch the written letters of invitation to all the neighboring packs except the omegas which were nicknamed the lone wolves '.I didn't want my son to have an omega as his mate as alphas needs a Luna and not a weak omega to be marked as his mate. I feared that his wolf might have scented an omega to have as a mate.

"No, I can't accept that !", I yelled inside me. My attention was diverted from my thoughts when the scout returned to me.

He bowed before saying, "My queen, I have done all you said as you strictly warned that no omega should be invited", he said with his gaze focused on the floor.

" Good, you may take your leave," I told him, glancing at the house glass as it was already dusk.

After the scout left, I called Beth, my maid to know if they were done with the preparation and she affirmed telling me the hall was ready with the banquet and feast neatly and orderly displayed.After beth told me this,a feeling of restlessness ruled my mind as I couldn't wait to meet her. The ball was five hours away and until I meet his mate, I wouldn't relax my mind.
