Chapter 8 Jessica Traps Devon And Katherine

Seeing Devon is uncomfortable, Katherine says "Devon, what is it? You don't have to be scared while talking to me."

"I know," says Devon taking a sigh "But, I don't want you to misunderstand me. That's why I am scared."

Katherine holds Devon's face and says "Devon, even after being apart from each other for so many years, our love has lived in our hearts, material facts won't affect it."

"Ok, then here I go." Devon takes a deep breath and says "Yesterday at the party, I got drugged and this morning..."

Katherine holds Devon's hands and says "I believe you."

"What?" shocked Devon says "What do you mean?"

Katherine says "Whatever you have to say, is related to Jessica, did you..."

"No, I would never, for that matter I'm sure of myself I would never do that even when drunk, but...but...today I woke up without my shirt and Jessica was having a bath. Thankfully, the event was organized by me, so I had CCTVs arranged. I checked them and nothing happened, but she is adamant on making me believe otherwise."

"Wait, if it's clear in the..." Devon stops Katherine's sentence midway and says "Me and the staff know about the camera's, not her."

"Then why are you being like this?" Looking at Devon, Katherine says "Like you cheated on me or are going to say let's break."

"Well, indirectly that's what I want to say," seeing Katherine's face lose its brightness, Devon says "Katherine, maybe I'm wrong, but I feel it's not a coincidence that Denny and Jessica came to us together. If I go along with her plan, maybe I can find out something about uncle and aunts death. Don't you want to?"

"I do, but why do we have to break up?" getting sad Katherine says "I don't get it."

Taking a deep breath Devon says "Jessica is telling me to be responsible for her cause of yesterday night. I can show her the footage, but at present I want her to believe what she wants. And for that I have to pretend to do whatever she says. And, I will be in front of you with her, so..."

"It's for our future (Devon nods a yes), then ok, but whenever she's not around, you are mine." Katherine says hugging Devon

Hugging back Devon says "Katherine, I'm always yours, whether I'm with you or not. But, please just play along."

"I'll let you know, this is not my choice, but..."

Before she could complete her sentence, Devon gets a call.

Online Jessica says "Devon, where are you? I don't feel fine."

Devon says "I'm over at Katherine's. She just came back from the hospital."

Jessica says "What? Why are you there?"

Trying to keep his calm Devon says "Jessica, she's my business partner, and her health is of my concern..."

"I don't know any of this," says Jessica pretending to get angry "My nuncle wants to meet you right now."

"OK, I'm coming over," as he disconnects Devon says "Katherine, her uncle, Denny is calling for me. Let me go and see what she's cooking, ok. I'll come by. (disconnecting the call) Katherine, I have to go, her uncle Denny wants to meet me."

"Huh?" is all that Katherine could say

"Look, I'm sure he will want me to take responsibility, but no problem, I also know how to play. Just trust me and faith in our love, ok." Devon says with brightness in his eyes.

Seeing him, Katherine says "Devon, I trusted and had faith in your countries apart, and now that we have met, it's rock solid. Go on."

Devon feels a slight pain in his heart but he doesn't say anything as he doesn't want to worry Katherine when she herself has just come back from the hospital.

As he comes out and gets in the car, Tristan calls.

"Devon, are ok." Tristan says "And what's with this Jessica girl?"

Devon says "Well she came by for a business proposal then for a reunion event and invited me. At the party I found out her uncle is Denny. Then she drugged me and ..."

Intervening Tristan says "Ok, I got the picture. So, I need to look after Katherine and make sure she is safe and track James so he doesn't do anything behind your back. And, don't worry I already have the boys keeping track of Denny's activities and now I'll get some behind Jessica as well."

Taking a sigh, Devon says "One more thing. Check if Jessica and James have a link."

"What makes you say that?" Tristan says confused "Why, or did something happen?"

"Not exactly happen," Continuing, Devon says "It's actually the way they looked at eachother. It definitely wasn't the first time look either and it most definitely wasn't the friendly look."

"So, you feel like they know each other," continuing, Devon says "And, not in a professional way. OK then." says Tristan "I'm on them as well."

"Ok," says Devon "Then I'm off to Jessica's house."

In a while Devon arrives at Jessica's residence. As he comes in, Jessica comes and hugs him. Getting uncomfortable, Devon pushes her away.

"Look, whatever happened last night is your imagination. I'm 100% sure nothing happened, so why not get on track and tell me what you really want?" Devon says irritated.

"Ok, if that's how you want things to go." Jessica gets to the point "I have always wanted to live the big life and the plan I had, well (she thinks of taking over Sunrise Resorts) it didn't go well. Now, I want you to marry me, it will be a year contract marriage. After a year, we both go our ways, I just get some alimony from you. That's all."

Devon takes a sigh and says "And, why do you think I will accept what you just said."

"Well," Jessica removes her phone and shows some pictures of James and Katherine and says "If you don't want them leaked, then do as I say."

"One thing you have proved today is," continuing Devon says "You are really his niece. Don't worry, no matter what, I won't let anyone harm Katherine, and that, you can have my word on."

As Devon is leaving, Jessica realizes it's not going to be easy to get money out of him but at the same time she is surprised.

"Hey, do you understand if these images get leaked out, no one will marry her?" Jessica questions Devon.

Before leaving Devon says "That is another thing you don't have to worry about."

After a while Devon comes back home and as he enters the room he sees Katherine is sleeping. He silently sits beside her and strokes her hair.

As Katherine awakens, on seeing Devon is sitting beside her, she looks at him and says "What's bothering you? Is that Jessica..."

Devon stops Katherine and says "Katherine, I think we just fell into a trap. (Katherine looks confused) Jessica wants me to get into a contract marriage for a year and if I don't, then she will leak pictures of you and James."

Shocked, Katherine says "Pictures of me and James, impossible. We went out three times and public areas, I never..."

Devon hugs Katherine and says "Calm down, I saw the pictures. They are photoshopped, but the media and public will take them for real. And that will sabotage your image. So, for now I'm going to play along with her. I'll buy some time so I can find out the link between these three. I'm sure uncle and aunt's death is also related to them."

"Devon, I know initially I believed uncle was responsible, but now I know he isn't." sobbing Katherine says "So, all I want is you, please."

Devon tries to calm Katherine and says "Katherine, I told you to trust me. I'm not letting them go so easily. But, I need you to be strong, please for me."

Katherine hugs Devon and says placing her hand on his chest "Are you ok? Your heart? You left your medicine here and..."

Taking a sigh Devon says "I know. Yesterday, my heart was aching, but I was ok."

"Why didn't you tell me?" Katherine asks getting angry

"That's why." says Devon "I didn't want to worry you."

Katherine says "Devon promise me, you will not hide your health from me, promise."

Smiling Devon says "Ok, from now on I will always tell you, ok."

Both hug each other.

Settling down, Devon says "Katherine, I will try my best to get out of this marriage mess, but if I have to, then please no matter what happens, please remember I only love you."

Hugging Devon, Katherine says "Will you both..."

Devon does not let Katherine complete her sentence and says "NO, Katherine, even if I have to get married, it's a contract marriage, that will be the first clause."

Sulking Katherine says "Why does our love story have to have such a huge roller coaster that just doesn't seem to stop."

Smiling Devon says "Well, isn't that good. The more challenges, the more stronger our love will be."

Making a sad face Katherine says "Am I supposed to say 'yipee' on that."

Getting down Devon says "I'm only trying to cheer you up. Katherine, please from now ow you have to be stronger, ok."

Smiling Katherine says "OK!"

Just then a notification pops up on Devon's phone and he says "It's your medicine time. Wait, I'll go get you some water."

As he is about to get up, he suddenly feels a slight pain. But he bears it and comes to the kitchen.

As he is standing against the shelf with his hand on his chest, Katherine comes and says "So, still going to hide your pain from me, huh."

Seeing Katherine, Devon says "Ah, no I just..."

Intervening Katherine says "Devon, can you please not hide from me?"

Devon takes a sigh and says "Katherine, I don't usually have so much problem, except for seasonal changes. But, the atmosphere is too emotional for me, that's why I'm facing this problem."

"Whatever, Devon, there's no reason to not tell me." in a disagreeing tone Katherine says "You should tell me, even if it's in your dreams. I don't care..."

Devon hugs Katherine and says "Ok, this time no matter what, I will tell you everything."

Getting back a bit, Katherine says "Feeling ok now?"

Smiling Devon says "Yes, I'm fine."

Katherine says "Ok, no more Jessica talk, let's go out somewhere."

Smiling Devon says "Where would my princess want to go?"

"Let's go to the campsite, huh, a camping weekend, what say?" Katherine says in an excited tone

"Ok, let's go." says Devon "The sooner we go, the more time we will get to be together."

Coming back to the living room, Devon says "Aunt Benny, could you please pack us some food for the weekend. Me and Katherine are going camping this weekend."

Aunt Benny says "Sure!"

Then Devon goes out and gets the car ready. As he comes inside and comes up to Katherine's room, he sees she is keeping his medicine in the kit.

"Bothered about my medicine?" Devon says in a loving tone "Have you kept yours?"

Smiling Katherine says as she keeps Devon's in and picks her's up "See, here it goes in, ok."

Devon says "Good, Aunt Benny has kept the food, and the car is ready. I have kept the tent, barbeque, and camping gear in the car. So, let's go!"

Jumping like a little child, Katherine says "Yay, (she puts her arm across Devon's) then let's, what do they say, yeah, let's roll!"

Devon pulls her hand closer and together they go to the car. On the way, Katherine keeps on feeding Devon.

As Katherine is feeding him, his phone rings. Since he is driving, he tells Katherine to take it.

Taking the call Katherine says "Hello, who's online?"

The voice says "Do you mind if you tell me who you are before I tell?"

"Mind, what's there to mind?" Katherine says in a frank tone "I'm Katherine, now who..."

"Jessica, Devon must have told about me." Jessica says in a stern tone "Actually, I have a proposal for you too. As you know I have some pictures of you and James. The reason Devon and I will get married for a year. I need you to play my long-lost sister. You see, she ran off with her boyfriend and never called back. There's a big insurance on her name that's maturing. I need you to pose as her and help me get it. The policy is due next year. So, practically we, I mean me, Devon and you will have to work together and as you will be my sister, live together as well."

"You do know this is Devon's phone?" Katherine says in a curious tone "And you are asking me?"

Jessica says "Yes, actually I wanted to ask what's his decision on our contract marriage and you posing as my sister, but since you received it. I presumed it's you, so took the liberty of asking or rather telling, as I don't think you and Devon really have a choice, unless both of you don't care about the images."
