Chapter 4 Katherine Tells Devon About Her Fiancé

Katherine says "Ok, It's just, helping for no profit or benefit, it doesn't make any sense, that's why I'm being suspicious."

"I totally understand and as a businessman I don't really do anything without profit. So, yes I do have my interest in this contract." Devon continues saying "I own an event enterprise and Alexin is a beautiful place. But the biggest issue is, there's only one hotel here and it's mostly booked. Your resorts are there but they lack the class and staff. I can help with the staff and class, in return, my customers will get a 50% discount on staying here."

Katherine smiles and says "Honestly, if my dad was alive, he would have loved you. I never was a brilliant student and didn't understand much about the business either. Thankfully, uncle Rodrick is there, who's been working along with dad, so he knows everything and handles everything for me. Or else..."

"Yes, I agree, Mr Rodrick is really a great man. You're lucky." taking a deep breath Devon continues saying "So, what's next?"

Katherine picks a pen and signs the contract and says, offering her hand for a handshake and says "To our partnership."

Devon also shakes hands with Katherine.

Then Katherine says "Let's go out. I'll introduce the staff."

Agreeing, Devon goes out with Katherine.

As they come out, Katherine says "Dorothy, please gather everyone around."

Dorothy dials the extension and in a few seconds the staff gathers around.

Seeing everyone has arrived, Katherine says "Everyone, let me introduce to you Devon Osborn, CEO of Osborn Events Enterprises. As Rodrick already knows, Devon has paid the loan dad took from Miles. And, a while back Leoford Bank called for their loan that we took. Well, Devon has cleared that as well and..."

James stops Katherine's sentence mid-way and says "What? What business partner?"

Katherine says in a stern tone "Business partner as in 50-50. From now on Devon owns 50% of Sunrise Resorts...."

James intervenes again and says "What? For thirty million, you gave half of..."

Katherine stops James' sentence mid-way and says "James, Sunrise Resorts is my dad's and I'm his only child. So, to whomever and how much ever I want to give, I can, I don't need to ask you or anyone for that. Still, to keep you at bay, the business partnership is for 700 million dollars and the money is already transferred to my account. Now, Devon, Rodrick, you already met outside. Dorothy, receptionist. Mitchelle, secretary. Ron, accounts, and Stephen, he's more of your interest. He's our event manager. Oh, and Vilmer is our lawyer but he's at his office."

As Katherine introduces each one of them, they give a slight bow to Devon.

"First of all, I don't like courtesies so, please I prefer everyone calls me Devon."

"Devon, so could you please tell a bit about yourself...." James was not able to complete his sentence as Rodrick stopped him saying "James, you are Katherine's college friend, the reason you are here, but that does not entitle you to question her and now Devon as well."

"Really, like for real?" says James "You, a manager is going to tell me what to do and what not to...Seems you have forgotten, the day she (Pointing to Katherine) says yes, I'm her husband..."

Stopping James mid-way, Katherine says "James, for the last time, I'm engaged."

"Yeah, to a person who hasn't tried to contact you once and the last time you saw him was when you both were six. Oh come on, give me a break. Stop using that baseless trick to ward off guys. It sucks." James says in a sadistic tone

Rodrick says "James, this is the truth. Katherine's fiance is in Italy, so stop pestering. Everyone, get back to work. Devon, please don't mind him."

Smiling Katherine says "Let's go to my office. Your office will be ready tomorrow."

James watches as Katherine and Devon enter into Katherine's office.

As they enter Devon says "Sorry to sound pestering but could you clarify a bit about your fiance. You said he's out of country and right now..."

Katherine pours wine and places a glass in front of Devon and one in front of her and as she sits in her chair, she says "Both are correct."

Devon gives a confused look.

Taking a sip, Katherine says "I'm correct as in, yes, he's in Italy. And, James is correct as in, yes, the last time I saw him was when we were six and since the day he left for Italy with his parents, he's never contacted me. For that matter he might have already married someone. Or might be having a girlfriend whom he loves more than his life. (raising her hands) And, here I am waiting like a fool for him."

Devon feels like his heart is getting heavy and finds it hard to breathe.

Seeing Devon, Katherine says "Are you ok?"

Taking a pill, Devon says "Yes, actually I should have told you before as you are my business partner and now that I'll be staying here, it's important you and the staff also know."

Katherine looks worried.

Seeing she is worried, Devon says "Don't worry, it's not that serious. You see, I had a heart transplant when I was a kid. So, things that stimulate feelings are kinda risky for me."

Katherine immediately apologizes and says "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know. I should not tell you about..."

Devon says "Oh no, it's not you. It's James, he kinda gets on my nerves."

Devon could not tell Katherine, the reason is cause when James is talking about him, he wants to punch him and say 'I'm here and standing right next to my girl' but he can't and has to pretend he's a stranger who has no love interest in Katherine.

Katherine says "If that's the case, I'll keep him away from you. Wait (Katherine goes to the cabinet and removes an album out), here (Katherine's face brightens up as she is showing the album) look this is my Devon. Look how cute he is, See, he really is a cute boy. (Looking at Devon) Actually, looking at my Devon's pictures and you, you both could play twin brothers."

Though Devon is smiling on the outside, inside he is excited as Katherine called him 'my Devon'. So this means he just has to clear his father's issue so she doesn't hate him anymore and also find out who has her phone, and why did that person keep his messages hidden from her. Then he realizes he has to gain confidence towards him in her heart so,

Devon says "Katherine, you said right now, he never contacted you. Why did you not try contacting him?"

Taking a sigh Katherine says "You see when we both were six, I was kidnapped and that incident left a horrible after effect on me. And, I heard while everyone was searching for me, Devon got badly injured. When I went to see him at the hospital to see him, mom-dad told me I began to scream and fainted. Then on whenever I saw him the same thing happened. Then his parents took him to Italy. Even today I have nightmares of my kidnapping. After the incident, I locked myself. It's only been a while back that I began socializing with people. I completed my high school education at home. It's with college that I began to attend regularly. And, now three years later I lost my parents."

Devon realizes Katherine has had a rough time as well. And now he knew she was not in the position to contact, but maybe if she had gotten his messages, the matter would have been different. Anyhow, Devon was certain he would win her heart again.

"Katherine, not that I'm taking sides or anything, after all I don't know about or who your Devon is, but I suggest before you know about his side, don't make any judgements."

Continuing, Devon says "You know, he might be as eager as you. Give him time."

Sighing Katherine says "I have. I can't do anything except give him time to come to me. (Getting a bit sad) You see, I don't have his number or address. Dad always use to say, he will come for me, so here I am waiting for him."

Devon takes a deep breath. Seeing him, Katherine says "Did I get too emotional for you? My bad, I won't say down heartening stuff again."

Devon places a hand on his chest and says "Don't worry. Actually, it's good for me. I can't be such an emotional freak. I can kill myself. It's just before I never had to face any emotions except happiness. My parents always make sure I don't face any stress of any sort. So, it's my first. But, don't worry I'll get stronger. (Taking a deep breath) He will come."

Just then Ron knocks and enters and says "Devon, a parcel arrived for you at the hotel. The receptionist just called and informed to tell you."

Devon says "Yes, I told on my way out, I was expecting a parcel and as I have an event coming up, I had plans of coming here. So, I told them to call here."

Surprised Katherine says "What? Oh I totally forgot. Ron, please get the guest house ready. Devon, I won't take no for an answer. You will stay over at our guest house."

Smiling, Ron says "Devon, why don't we go and get your stuff from the hotel. Ron will get the guest house ready for you."

Katherine says "That's a great idea. You can have dinner with me at my home."

Seeing Katherine smile, Devon could not say no.

Agreeing, Devon goes with Rodrick. On the way Ron says "Devon thanks for coming back. Robert knew you would come for Katherine."

Shocked and surprised, Devon says "Excuse me, but what are you..."

Ron cuts Devon's sentence mid-way and says "Tim sent your latest picture to Robert. And he showed it to me. I recognized you in the morning itself. I so badly wanted to tell Katherine, but you know the situation. (Suddenly remembering) Oh, your heart, are you ok? Whatever you need, just tell. Your health is my priority now."

Smiling Devon says "I can't tell how relieved I am on knowing there is someone I can speak to without hiding."

Ron says "Don't worry. We just need to clear the accident matter, then you can come in front of Katherine."

Confused Devon says "Accident?"

Rodrick says "Of course, the hit-and-run. We need to clear Tim Sir's name."

Getting a bit quiet, Devon says "Ron, you, do believe it's not us."

Ron says "Of course. It's just all of a suddenly your dad came, and then the accident. Plus, a few days back, before your dad came, Robert got a call threatening him. And the call was from Italy. So..."

Shocked Devon says "What? Italy?"

Ron says "Yes, that's the reason Katherine is suspecting your father more."

"But how can she forget about our family ties?" Devon can't understand and says "I mean, just cause the call is from Italy, it's dad?"

Ron says "Devon, I don't know how much is true, but that man who shot you and kidnapped Katherine managed to get bail and has been blackmailing Robert for years. He has some secret that Robert was hiding from Tim. That man threatened he would go to Italy and tell Tim the truth. (Seeing Devon is getting anxious) Devon, are you ok?"

Devon assures he's fine and tells to continue.

Continuing, Ron says "The last call came from Italy. Katherine has assumed that man told Tim the truth and that's why Tim tired to...rest you know."

Devon asks reluctantly "Does Katherine know what the secret is?"

Ron takes a deep breath and says "Except, Robert, no one knew. But, yes, Katherine feels it's the reason Tim went to Italy with you and it's also the reason the family ties weakened over the years."

"As far as I know, dad always talked about uncle, practically daily. But, he did say, that uncle never spoke about the current situation and would only talk about the past. He wouldn't even ask about me. But would always remind Katherine was still having nightmares." Continuing Devon says "Whenever dad used to tell me, I felt like..."

Intervening Ron says "He wanted you to forget about Katherine and move on, yes, that's what he wanted. Robert tried his best to keep everything away from Katherine but over the years his marriage was failing. But Jin never gave up, finally she went with him."

Getting angry, Devon says "Whoever it is, I will find out and make him pay for every crime he has done."

Then Ron says "Ok, we've come. Let's go, Katherine must be waiting for you."
