Chapter 5 Just Sleep

Danielle sighed, unsure of how to explain. Grasping the edge of Vernon's clothing, she drew closer and spoke softly. "Vernon, I realized how foolish I was before. I was blind to their true nature. Now that we're married, I am your wife and won't make such mistakes. I truly want to change. Can you give me that chance?"

Vernon remained silent.

He continued to stare at her.

But his eyes seemed less frigid than before.

"You little liar."

He didn't buy Danielle's sugary words.

Even though he said so, Vernon still carried her up.

Danielle gently rested her arm on his shoulder, feeling at ease against his solid chest.

She felt sleepy.

She had just been reborn and was exhausted.

Vernon carried her back to their room. Observing that she had fallen asleep, he carefully laid her on the bed, pondered for a moment, and then lifted the hem of her dress.

"Vernon..." The sudden chill brought Danielle back to her senses.

"Just sleep. I won't do anything."

His voice wasn't tender, but Danielle still drifted to sleep with ease.

After all, she had done the most intimate thing with him previously.

Having experienced so much before being reborn, she wasn't overly concerned, and her fatigue overcame her.

Vernon grew slightly irritated, seeing that Danielle had truly fallen asleep. Did she trust him completely now?

Since it was his first time, his inexperience showed. On top of that, his anger had led him to be somewhat rough while making love to her. Earlier, she had mentioned being in pain. Worried that he had hurt her, he spread her legs to examine her. Relieved, he found only minor swelling.

He also got on the bed, wrapped his arms around Danielle, and sighed contentedly.

"Danielle, be good."

Even if she was deceiving him, he wanted her to keep up the charade a bit longer.

In the darkness, Vernon gazed at her for a long while before finally closing his eyes.

It was the first time that Vernon had experienced this.

Danielle's body, soft and delicate, nestled in his arms. His love which spanned more than a decade had finally been fulfilled.

He had a good sleep and even didn't want to wake up.

But the next morning at seven o'clock, a noise woke him up.

"Danielle?"

Upon waking up, Vernon noticed that Danielle was drenched in sweat, breathing rapidly, and tightly shut her eyes.

Was she experiencing a nightmare?

But the very next moment.

The name that escaped her lips utterly disappointed Vernon.

"Wilbur..."

Danielle dreamt of the events from her previous life.

Wilbur took advantage of her affection for him, convincing her to steal the Herrera family's confidential information. This nearly landed Vernon in jail and utterly shattered his trust in her.

Her grandfather's family had also fallen victim to her wrongdoings...

Vernon sat at the head of the bed and turned to look at Danielle. But when he heard the name she uttered, his eyes lost their warmth and tenderness and were filled with disappointment.

"Danielle. This is the second time."

For the second time, she had spoken Wilbur's name in his bed.

If she cherished Wilbur so dearly, why had she pretended otherwise the day before?

Yesterday, he was furious. Today, along with that anger, he felt an indescribable sense of loss and pain, causing his heart to ache.

Vernon left the room without a word, grabbing his coat and slamming the door behind him.

Stefan stood outside the door, and as Vernon emerged, he approached him with caution. Stefan took an inquisitive glance at Vernon, knowing that something Danielle had done must have angered him greatly.

"Sir, is Miss Cullen..."

"It's Mrs. Herrera."

Though still irate, Vernon did not forget to correct Stefan. He strode downstairs, saying, "Inform everyone in the villa to address her properly."

Stefan nodded. "Yes, sir. The servants have prepared breakfast. You can head to the company afterward."

Vernon's anger had robbed him of his appetite.

"I don't want to eat. When that heartless woman upstairs wakes up, have someone prepare something nutritious for her!"
