Chapter 3 Make Them Pay

Located on the second underground floor of the villa, the dungeon was damp and shrouded in darkness.

An unpleasant stench filled the air inside.

As Vernon and Danielle entered the dungeon, he secretly observed her. Her face displayed a mix of anxiety and anticipation, which only served to upset him further.

She had always been pampered and lived in luxury, but for Wilbur, she willingly came into such a wretched place.

"Sir."

Upon seeing Vernon, his subordinate, Stefan Hinks, bowed respectfully. Noticing Danielle behind Vernon, Stefan's expression soured, but he still greeted her.

"Open the door," Vernon commanded impatiently.

Stefan glanced at Danielle with concern. Wilbur had been severely tortured, and if Danielle saw him, she would undoubtedly argue with Vernon once more.

Regardless, Vernon had given an order, and Stefan had to obey.

As the door opened, a potent stench of blood filled the air.

A man and a woman were imprisoned in an iron cage, the man's body covered in lash marks. The woman's condition was only slightly better than the man's.

Wilbur and Hattie were in a pitiful state. Upon them seeing Danielle enter, their faces lit up with hope.

They believed that since Danielle had arrived, they would be saved.

"Danielle! Help us!"

"Dannie, please convince him to free us!" Wilbur called out desperately. Had Danielle arrived any later, they might not have survived.

Huh?

They wanted her to help them and free them?

Danielle's hands clenched tightly at her sides.

Taking a deep breath to suppress the intense hatred welling up inside her, she stepped forward.

The closer she got to them, the more her hatred intensified.

Her body even began to quiver slightly.

Leaning against the wall, Vernon smirked sardonically. As he had anticipated, Danielle would be enraged upon seeing her precious Wilbur injured and would likely seek vengeance. He wondered if she might even stab him a few times in retaliation.

"Dannie..." Wilbur awkwardly squirmed on the floor, attempting to get closer to Danielle.

She stared at him without any emotion, and just as he was about to touch her, she delivered a powerful kick to his face.

"Who do you think you are? How dare you call me Dannie?"

The sudden kick caught everyone off guard. They all stared in disbelief.

Vernon straightened up, equally stunned, while Stefan's eyes widened in shock. What had gotten into Danielle today?

"Danielle, what... what's wrong with you?" Hattie's face paled in fear. In the past, Danielle would never utter a harsh word to Wilbur, let alone physically harm him.

"Did Mr. Herrera drug you in any way, Danielle?" Hattie asked cautiously, glancing at Vernon.

"In what way do you expect him to drug me? By the way, Vernon and I are married now. He's my husband," Danielle retorted, scoffing at Hattie.

Hattie liked Vernon, but now he belonged to Danielle.

"What? Married?"

How could it be possible?

Hattie was in disbelief. Vernon had witnessed Danielle having sex with another man; shouldn't he be disgusted instead? How could he possibly marry her?

Hattie believed she should be the one marrying Vernon.

Danielle observed Hattie's jealous expression and took a deep breath, mulling over her thoughts. She then turned to Vernon and inquired, "Vernon, you have a few wolves, right?"

Vernon, still processing the word "husband" from earlier, absentmindedly replied when he heard the question.

"Could you bring one of your wolves here?" Danielle continued to ask.

"Are you sure you want that?"

Vernon immediately grasped her intentions, and his eyes darkened.

Realizing Vernon still harbored some jealousy, Danielle tried to reassure him, "I'm your wife now, Vernon. If there's anything I'd be unwilling to do, it would be to leave you. I won't even look at other men, no matter their situation."

Vernon snorted. Danielle certainly had a way with words.

And he couldn't deny that he enjoyed being pleased with sweet talk.
