Chapter 3 The pregnancy

David smiled and told her to never mind because he was just protecting her from getting hurt.

The elevator stopped alright but they couldn't get out of it.

David requested assistance using the elevator's emergency button but to no avail.

He further pressed the alarm button to alert people that they were stuck but nothing happened.

After attempting several times and getting no response, he stopped.

They waited for thirty minutes before the assistant team came to their rescue.

Before their rescue, they initiated a conversation to clear off the long silence between them.

That was when they got to know each other more.

David narrated how he terribly lost both parents in a car crash and how depressed he had been ever since the incident.

Katy was sad to hear about the tragic loss of her new friend.

She realized that David needed someone who would help him recover from his depressed state.

So she decided to help him.

Katy also narrated everything about her life to him. She went on further by unveiling his mega software project to him.

The young man was intrigued about her project so he pleaded for Katy to involve him.

It was hard for her to say yes but the cunning and romantic eyes of the handsome guy swayed her.

Rejecting the petition of an already broken guy would not be a good thing so she finally accepted to include him in her mega project.

After a few months of their encounter, they finally fell in love with each other.

The Software was completed within three and half months and was ready to be launched.

David proposed to her and set a date for their wedding.

He convinced Katy to hold on to the launching and wait till their wedding was done.

Overtaken by joy, she swiftly accepted but little did she know that, David had an evil intention.

She didn't know David had intentions of robbing her of everything she toiled so much for.

As she lay on the bed, she kept crying, cursing David repeatedly.

During their relationship, David never disclosed his Company and rich financial background to Katy.

He did that on purpose. He knew Katy despised affluent people due to their rude and cruel nature towards poor people.

Katy had been a victim before during her years at the university so she greatly hated them.

Knowing all these, and wanting to earn Katy's trust, David hid his wealth and pretended to be poorer like her.

"After all his enormous wealth and massive company, why would he take the little hope I have away?

Why would he?" she couldn't bit back her tears.

Katy's head was banded due to the injury. Though she was given analgesia to reduce the pain but she could feel a little bit of pain anytime she cried.

The next morning, the nurse who was assigned to take care of her approached with a physician. In her hand was a file with 'Katy Ann' boldly written on the front cover.

From the expression on their faces, it indicated they were there with good news.

"We are so sorry for your accident but fortunately, it didn't affect the......."

Before the Physician could finish his statement, he was interrupted by one of the Emergency nurses from behind "

"Dr. Ben, your service is needed urgently at the Intensive Care Unit."

Dr. Ben handed the file to Katy's attending nurse to proceed with what he was saying.

"Katy, may we know who your husband is?" The nurse asked softly and happily.

The mere hearing of the word 'husband' broke her apart. She hated to hear that name since it reminded her of all the episodes of her pain.

She nearly burst into tears but she remembered the pain that would radiate from her injured head would be more than the pain of recalling what David caused her.

"My husband traveled" Katy lied to cut everything short.

She was curious to know the news the nurse carried with her so she asked

"Nurse, is there anything you want to tell me?"

The nurse gleefully replied "Of course, there is good news. Your babies are not affected"

Dumbstruck, Katy exclaimed "What? Babies?"

"Aren't you happy about it?" The nurse asked perplexed.

"You mean I am pregnant?" Katy asked still in a state of shock.

"You are eight weeks pregnant. You are carrying twin babies."

The nurse replied cheerfully trying to clear Katy's doubts.

Katy's jaw dropped, she didn't know whether to accept the news or reject it.

She wanted to deny that she was not responsible for the pregnancy but she recalled she was not a male.

It was very tough for her to classify the news as a good one or a bad one.

To avoid the nurse from intruding into her personal life, she plastered a fake smile pretending to be happy about the news.

"Thank you, nurse, my husband will be very glad to hear this great news."

When the nurse left, Katy started mulling over the news.

"Life is not fair to me. After getting my wedding ruined and my project stolen by the man I trusted, how should I carry his babies?

My life is fucked up! What should I do and who should I go to?"

Ignoring the intense pain her head would cause her, she cried her eyes out.

Breaking the news to David Slack was out of her options. She was not ready to face him.

As a poor girl who had nothing, how would she raise the babies alone?

People would perceive that her groom ditched her wedding because she was pregnant with another man.

That alone upset Katy a lot.

The hands that would point at her and the mouth that would gossip about her were enough to wreck her soul.

As a single mother, there was no way she could raise the babies without anyone's help and assistance.

Even if David accepts to take responsibility, there was no way she would forgive him for the pain he caused her.
