Katy swiftly run to the hall to do what the caller has ordered. What she saw on the Television nearly paralyzed her. She couldn't believe her eyes. Initially, she thought it was an illusion, so she quickly rubbed her eyes with both hands before watching the TV again.
"Jesus!! This can't be true, this can't be true" she lamented confused about what she was seeing.
Katy is a programmer who has dedicated her whole life to creating one of the best software applications in the country. The application was one of her biggest priorities. It was her only hope; the dream that would change her life and financial status. When she was young, her mother left her father due to his poor financial state. As a result of that, she promised to build a massive software company for his dad for her mum to regret her actions. To make her daughter's dream come true, his dad sold all that he had to get some money to enroll Katy in the best programming University in the country. He did it but unfortunately, he died of leukemia on her daughter's graduation day. The news hit Katy hard so she swore to fulfill the dream she made to her dad. This was what led her to create that mind-blowing application software. He knew by doing so, he would heap a huge amount of money to start the company.
"This can't be....this can't be. I can't believe this news!"
She hastily walked to a small room she has designated as her office. The office was where she kept her files, computer, and important information about her project. No one had access to her office except for David and herself. To her sudden dismay, her programming files were stolen and deleted from her computer. There was no way she could retrieve them. She was automatically logged out of all her accounts and was denied access when she tried logging in.
"Ooh no!! My project; he stole it..... D-David stole it" She blurted while pointing at her computer.
At that moment, her world was spinning. She didn't know if she should cry, explode or scream. The last glint of hope vanished in her sight.
Tears cascaded down her already red and swollen cheeks. If tears were money, she would have been a billionaire by now.
The more she cried, the more her painful memories kept replaying.
She became more weaker and exhausted over the constant crying. Her eyelids became puffy making it invisible for her to see things clearly.
The roaring noise of her stomach reminded her of the need to eat but she played death ear. Food was not an option for her at that time.
"I would rather die hungry than eat and live. My life has no meaning now; I feel hollow and useless.
I have no one in this world, it is only me alone....... I am nothing but an empty being, who is wishing to die to end my pain.
In her small room, she could still hear the voice of the TV host. That alone increased her heartbeat and wrecked every bit of her.
"Our world is advancing quickly into a technological world. This is all possible because of hardworking men like David Slack. People like him are rare to find. This country has to protect him because he has incredible technological ideas and innovations that would make life simple for this generation. Our future lies in this young man."
The praises David was receiving irritated her and prompted her into action. She rushed to where the television was to switch it off but she slipped and fell hitting her head hard on the ground.
The pain that run through her head was something unexplainable.
The impact was so strong that, she remained powerless on the ground.
It was as if she was shot in the head by a powerful gunshot.
Katy thought that was the end, the death she was wishing and hoping for. It would be better for her if she never woke up because if she woke up, the only thing ahead of her was tragedy after tragedy.
She started bleeding profusely while she lay on the ground. The pain she was feeling got more intense.
As she lay there, she realized death was not coming to her rescue. If she doesn't do something about it, she would adversely be affected by it.
Afraid of what the impact would cause her, she gathered the little strength she had, crawled on the floor, and finally got her phone. All these while, blood was dripping down her face from the site injury.
The blood mixed with her tears, making it a more terrible experience for her.
Katy managed to wipe down some of the blood to have a slightly clear sight to dial a contact on her phone.
She dialed a hospital emergency number and within a wink, two health personnel were in her house.
Katy lost consciousness right after the health practitioners were there. The health workers quickly took her out of the blood and lay her on a stretcher. They carried her in an ambulance and rushed her to the hospital.
At the hospital, the memories of how she met David kept repeating incessantly.
It played like a series of a modern romantic movie.
It was a bright Friday afternoon when she got stuck with this stranger in an elevator while attending a party.
Initially, they thought the elevator was perfectly fine not until they realized, they had been there for almost seven minutes. The elevator was supposed to take them there within ninety seconds.
The fault became more apparent when the elevator stopped abruptly throwing Katy into David's arms.
David held her strongly trying to prevent her from falling.
Katy afraid of the violent throw clung to him tightly, resting her beautifully shaped head on David's massive chest.
On her chest, she smelled the sweet-scented perfume of David's body.
In his massive and strong arms, she was saved.
It took three solid minutes for her to come back to her senses.
That was when she realized she was in the arms of a total stranger.
It was a loving and an awkward feeling at the same time but Katy quickly brushed everything off by saying she was sorry.
