Chapter 5 I'm Her Only Relative

"Ellie, are you alright?" Ronin rushed to the sickbed, grabbed her hand, and examined carefully.

"I'm okay." Ellie raised her head, gave him a reassuring look, touched her head, and felt a layer of bandage.

No wonder she felt dizzy when she woke up.

"Is this bastard who ran you over?" Ronin glanced back at the man in the doorway.

Ellie shook her head, "I've no idea. I'm here when I open my eyes again."

Actually, she knew what had happened. The second she fainted, there seemed to be a man striding over. It was Jeffrey. She thought it was a hallucination.

Unexpectedly, it was true.

"Go check on the patient." Jeffrey said before the doctor entered the ward with equipment.

"Mr. Gates, could I do a simple examination for the patient?"

In L.A., Jeffrey and Ronin were equally famous. Almost everyone who knew Jeffrey also knew Ronin.

Jeffrey was a local tyrant famous for his business. Ronin was a local despot famous for his love affairs.

The constant gossip and bad deeds made him sort of a celebrity in L.A. He was backed by Gates Group, his family business.

Ronin then made way for the doctor.

"Examine her properly. If Ellie lost a hair, you'd be living in hell." Ronin said as he looked at the doctor. In fact, he was warning Jeffrey, the culprit.

"Ronin, I'm okay. Don't fuss about it." Ellie sulked.

"Humph, better be. If something goes wrong, I'll fight him with my life." Of course, he was talking about Jeffrey.

"This lady is not seriously wounded, but..."

"But what?" Ronin yelled at the doctor who kept them in suspense.

The doctor looked at Ellie, hesitated for a while, and asked, "Ma'am, were you severely crushed by anything before?"

Ellie stiffened at his question.

Four years ago, she almost died in a car accident. After surgery, she was confined in bed for five months. Because of the accident, her daughter died in her womb before she could see this beautiful world.

"What happened, Ellie? When?" He didn't have the slightest clue.

In the first two years in Zurich, Ellie barely contacted Ronin, so he didn't know anything.

When she met his anxious eyes, her eyes swiveled and dropped guiltily, "Nothing."

She paused and laid her eyes back on the doctor, "Doctor, don't exaggerate it and make my friend worry. When can I leave?"

"No rush, we need to examine the wound in your head."

The doctor then instructed the nurses behind him, "Take this lady for a brain scan."

"You got it."

"You didn't finish your speech." As soon as Ellie was carried out of the ward, Ronin grabbed Dr. Flynn by the arm and demanded in a cold voice.

The doctor glanced at Jeffrey, who stood still at the door, and then turned back, "Mr. Gates, we'd better wait for the patient's relatives."

Ronin's face fell, and he raised his voice irritably, "I'm her only relative, so just tell me."

Dr. Flynn froze, saw his serious and anxious expression, and compromised, "Follow me to my office."

His remark made Ronin frown and the man at the door furrow his brow.

Jeffrey's heart lurched when Ronin claimed he was her only relative.

He had never had such a feeling before.

Ronin's appearance made him suspect Ellie's identity even more, but he had no method to confirm it.

Who was she exactly?

What was her relationship with Ronin?

If she were not Scarlett, why was Ronin so worried about her?
