Chapter 10 Defending My Wife

"Ah..."

Olivia screamed in pain, tears welling up in her eyes. Like an apple in her parents' eyes, never did she go through such a humiliation. With a mixture of love and anger, she looked at Charlie, who was expressionless.

Olivia had thought that she could have a chance to get together with Charlie after Caroline left, but to her surprise, Charlie married Zoey, some lowly woman.

She admitted that Zoey was more beautiful than her, though there was an immense gap between the latter's background and hers.

"Does it hurt?" Charlie threw the teacup onto the table and asked coldly.

Aggrieved, Olivia nodded, with tears rolling down her face. "Charlie, how can you do this to me?"

Charlie added curtly, "It pleases me!"

He looked at Zoey and softened his voice. "Let's go."

After hearing that, Zoey, who had been keen to leave, immediately passed Charlie and strode out. When the hem of her gauzy skirt crossed the back of his hand, Charlie felt as if a feather brushed over his heart.

Charlie drove his electric wheelchair out, only to find that Zoey was gone.

Edward walked over and spoke to Charlie, "Mr. Kingsley, the lady just ran out."

"Tell Adam to stop her," Charlie ordered.

Edward hurried to call Adam and then pushed Charlie out to find Zoey.

At the hotel's back door, Zoey was stopped by Adam, who seemed to be poker-faced all the time.

"Charlie is in the hotel. As his bodyguard, isn't it your duty to stay with him? Then what the hell do you stop me for?" Zoey snapped.

"This is Mr. Kingsley's order!"

"Mr. Kingsley, Mr. Kingsley. If he asks you to kill someone or set fire, would you follow him as well?" Zoey was so irritated that she could not help yelling at Adam.

"I don't do things that are illegal."

"Isn't it illegal to stop me and restrict my personal freedom?"

"You are Mr. Kingsley's wife."

"I won't be soon!" Zoey retorted. She had just finished her words when she saw Charlie coming over, making her wonder what he had heard.

At the sight of Charlie, Zoey's anger dissipated like the air in a punctured balloon. Pitifully and quietly, she stood still with her head lowered.

Charlie's eyes fell on the back of Zoey's hand, on which there were a few small blisters. With his brow furrowed, he said to Zoey, "Get in the car. I'll take you to the doctor."

"No need. It's just a minor injury."

A minor injury? How could she call her to burn a minor injury?

"If you don't treat it, it will leave a scar." Beauty was of the utmost importance for women.

"It doesn't matter. Anyway, you have no interest in the sight of me." Zoey replied sadly.

"Ain't I looking at you right now?"

"You're looking at me with your eyes, not with your heart."

Charlie gazed at Zoey as if she was an unreasonable child. "What do you mean?"

"Nothing," Zoey mumbled bitterly.

Charlie tried to figure out her thought by studying her face. "Are you angry with Olivia?"

She cast a hesitant glance at Charlie. Under the tough armor that shielded her from harming others, Zoey left one soft spot for Charlie because she loved him.

However, her love, in his eyes, was cheap.

"Charlie, you're right. A marriage without love leads to a grave. I understand now. I agree to divorce you." Zoey sobbed.

Her heart throbbed, and tears trickled down her cheek uncontrollably. As she wiped them off, salty tears made her wound more painful.

"Stop it. Deal with the wound first." Charlie frowned at her tear-soaked wound.

"It's none of your business!"
