Chapter 5 No Wedding

The 8th should have been the wedding day of Charlie and Caroline.

If not for that plane crash, if Charlie was not disabled, how romantic and lively would the day have been?

Even though she was willing to be an alternate of Caroline, Charlie still refused to accept her.

He did not love her at all. They had registered their marriage at the insistence of Charlie's grandmother, yet he adamantly refused to have a wedding with the excuse of physical disability.

"Why didn't you have a wedding?"

"Because he didn't want that."

"You marry a man who even does not want to give you a wedding? How desirous you are to find a man?"

Shirley Bassett sat on the sofa with her legs resting on the coffee table and a thin cigarette in her mouth. She displayed a look of strong disapproval at Zoey's behavior.

"He has yet to love me. He will change when he loves me." Zoey made excuses for Charlie while feeling sad and disappointed.

A wedding was every girl's dream, including Zoey, even though she was mentally mature.

"Zoey, let me tell you that men are unreasonable. If you are always submissive to them, they will never cherish you."

After a moment of silence, Zoey whispered with a vague look in her eyes.

"Shirley, we are not the same. I want a family. Charlie is the man I've loved at first sight since I was a teenager, and now that I finally have the opportunity to get close to him, I will not falter because of some assumptions about our marriage.

And if ...... if I find it impossible to make Charlie love me, I will leave determinedly."

"Fine, remember what you said!"

Reluctantly, Zoey nodded and said.

"I'm leaving. Take care of yourself. Don't eat takeout every day. Don't smoke too much. Keep the room clean..." Finishing packing her belongings, Zoey looked around the small house where she had lived for two years, a tinge of reluctance emerging in the heart.

"Since you are going to live with the man, why do you still rent the room?" Shirley felt it strange that Zoey, a stingy woman, kept the room which she did not need anymore.

Zoey looked at the suitcase, and her face darkened. Only after a while did she answer uncertainly, "Because I worry that I will be dumped by Charlie one day."

"Didn't you just say confidently that Charlie will fall in love with you?"

"I tend to prepare for the worst situation beforehand."

Charlie deliberately made things difficult for her by making her move into his house on her own. Luckily, she only had a few belongings for financial reasons.

"Shirley, I'm leaving; bless me."

"If he dares to bully you, I'll chop off his penis with a knife and feed it to the dog!" Shirley sighed and stood up to help Zoey carry her suitcase, her eyes filled with reluctance.

"No, I'll do it myself!"

Edward, who Mrs. Kingsley sent to pick up Zoey, accidentally heard their conversation. He seemed to feel a vague pain and then started to be worried about Charlie's marriage life.

The door was open. He knocked on it and said to Zoey, "Madam, Mrs. Kingsley had me take you home."

"Thank you."

What Edward referred to was not the old home of the Kingsley Family, but one of Charlie's villas, which was a bit far from the downtown, though enjoyed the pleasant environment.

When Zoey arrived at Begonia Villa, Charlie was having someone massage his legs. The fluffy black hair glowed golden under the warm sun, the man's profile handsome and elegant.

"Mr. Kingsley, the lady, is here," Edward said to Charlie.

Charlie looked up at Zoey, who pulled a suitcase. Judging from the obvious uneasiness and apprehension in her eyes, he understood that she was not as confident about her future as she had claimed.

"Take her to the guest room," Charlie ordered.

The guest room?

"Why should I go to the guest room? Since we're married, shouldn't we sleep together?" Zoey asked, puzzled.

"I don't want to sleep with a stranger."
