Chapter 8 You'd Better Behave Yourself

"I would be a lawyer if I had your eloquence." Morris shook his head and sighed slightly. Suddenly, he pushed his face towards Miley and blew a warm breath on her face. "Besides, I'm not offending you. You're my woman, aren't you?"

"You..." With a blush, she cast a glare at him and didn't speak anymore.

When the elevator reached the 16th floor, Morris grasped her wrist and took her out. With eyes wide open, she was led into a room with a board that read "Director's Office".

"Morris? Why are you here? This is..."

A man, who looked like a successful type, put his hands on Morris's shoulders while locking his gaze on Miley's face.

Realizing that Morris was still holding her wrist, she hurried to draw it out and looked at him with confusion.

Morris patted the man's shoulders and introduced him to her, "This is Charles Hill, the head of this firm. He's the one you wanted to meet but failed."

Charles Hill? Miley was stunned as she thought of the information on the internet. Charles Hill was a top lawyer in the city, the head of Hill Law Firm. It was said he never lost a court case.

"Oh, ni-nice to meet you, Mr. Hill," Miley stammered with excitement and nervousness.

Charles smiled graciously. "Nice to meet you. How should I address you?"

"I'm Miley Smith. M, i, l, e, y. S, m, i, t, h." She replied respectfully at once.

"Miss Smith, you wanted to meet me but failed?" Charles looked at Morris and then Miley with suspicion.

"Yes..." Miley then told Charles what had happened just now. Morris didn't interrupt her and just nodded when she finished speaking.

Charles gave her an embarrassed smile. "I see. This is a misunderstanding. If you had told your relationship with Morris, I would have gone downstairs and greeted you in person."

"No, no, you misunderstood us. We..."

She wanted to explain that they were not even friends, but Morris interrupted, "She's very low-key."

"Morris Lawrence, what do you mean?" She stared at him, but Morris took her hand firmly and whispered to her ear, "I forgot to tell you that I'm a partner of this firm. So you'd better behave yourself."

"..."

She opened her mouth wide and looked at him in astonishment. It took her a long while to resume her calmness. "Aren't you a doctor?"

"That's a sideline."

With Morris's help, Miley had a smooth and thorough talk with Charles who not only took her case but gave her a discount on the legal fees.

So when she went out of the building, her hostility to Morris had reduced a bit.

But when he didn't get into his car and instead followed her, she pulled a long face again. "Mr. Lawrence, I appreciate your help just now. But I know my way home well and don't need you to drive me back."

"I don't plan to drive you back," he replied with a smile. "As a partner of the law firm, I have something about the case to discuss with my client. Is there any problem with this, Miss Smith?"

"You know about laws?"

She narrowed her eyes with suspicion when she looked at him. Judging by his appearance, he was more suitable to be a money boy than a doctor or a lawyer.

Morris walked straight to her Volkswagen CC, opened the door, and got himself into it.

"It doesn't matter whether I know about laws. Anyway, I'm the firm's partner and can promise you success in court."

When he said that, his eyes glowed with determination as they were fixed on her face, but all she saw in his eyes was money.

If Morris gave attention to her case, his seemingly good friend Charles would definitely try his best to help her with it.

Thinking of this, Miley got in the car resignedly. After all, it was unavoidable to swallow her pride if she needed his help.

"Miley, is your company having a hard time?" Morris asked when she started the engine.

Miley blinked for a second and had vigilance in her eyes again. "What does this have to do with you?"

"Nothing. I just want to tell you I can help you with capital, client sources, or something else."

He looked very serious, but Miley furrowed her brows deeply.

"What do you want from me? Morris Lawrence, although you're young and rich, you're really not my type. Please don't pester me or let others misunderstand our relationship."

As she pressed the accelerator hard, the car suddenly moved. Morris leaned forward slightly, and yet his gaze still fixed on her face.

This woman was like an eager beaver or a hedgehog with sharp spikes all over.

"Who is your type then? Roy Shawn?"

Hearing Roy's name, Miley felt a surge of sadness. She turned around and glared at Morris. "You're not on my list, anyway. Mr. Lawrence, I solemnly tell you that what happened that night was just an accident. I'm not the kind of woman in your imagination. I appreciate your help with the lawsuit, but I don't want to discuss anything else with you. So please... shut up!"

Before he could say something, her phone rang. It was from her younger sister Sherly Smith.

"Miley, where are you now? Can you pick me up at the college gate? Mom asked both of us to go back home. She sounded very angry."
