Chapter 8 Her Waking Up Is Not in Sight

Early the next morning, Emma was awakened by Mike's knock on the door. She rubbed her sleepy eyes and opened the door.

Mike whispered, "You go get breakfast for Mr. Turner, and then we will leave."

Emma was in good spirits immediately. Like a Popeye who ate spinach, she quickly changed her clothes, went to the kitchen, and made omelets according to the recipe. Finally, she brought them with the hot bread and milk to Bob.

Bob was still sleeping, probably because he rested late last night.

"Don't forget to eat breakfast." She exhorted, put the dishes on the bedside table, and left anxiously.

After she left, Bob opened his eyes. He looked at the food on the plate, and then closed his eyes again.

Mike took Emma to the hospital. But as soon as they entered the gate, he dragged her to the corner hesitatingly and said, "Judy, I didn't tell you the truth yesterday. Your sister's condition is not very good."

"What do you mean?" Emma's mind almost exploded.

"Don't worry, she is out of danger for the time being, but she hasn't woken up yet. According to the doctor, you'd better be prepared that she may never wake up. I kept from you yesterday because I was afraid you would be worried."

Emma's eyes reddened, "Take me to her."

Under the guidance of Mike, Emma came to the door of Ward No. 302. Just when she was about to push the door, she heard the conversation inside the room.

"I'm still unable to contact the Turner Family for the time being. Now that Emma becomes like this, we will definitely need a lot of money for her treatment. But even if she wakes up in the end, I'm afraid she would not be able to live like a normal person. I think... we should probably give up on her.

Emma could tell that it was her father's voice.

Seeing that she was standing still, Mike also stood beside the door as he listened.

"Give up? If we give up, our child will be gone," Emma's mother said with a trembling voice.

"If not, will you stay and take care of her? You don't need to make money? Or are you saying that you can afford to hire her a caregiver? Emma is really ignorant. We've already had a lot of debts, but she still made trouble for us."

Emma's mother dumbly condemned her husband, "Is this what a dad should say? Who got us so many debts? Isn't it because of your gambling?"

William had no intention of quarreling anymore, so he asked his son who was sitting aside playing mobile games, "Winston, tell me, what do you think we should do?"

Winston was concentrating on the game, so he replied perfunctorily, "As long as the decision doesn't affect my quality of life, you are free to do anything you want."

"You little bastard!" Emma kicked the door open, which startled the three people in the ward.

"Why do you want to give up on her? She is still alive. What on earth makes you think that you can give up? She..." Emma walked to the bed and looked at "her own" body with the oxygen tube plugged in, thinking to herself that maybe her sister was sleeping deep in it. Holding "her own" hand, she couldn't stop her pouring tears, "She has contributed so much to this family, but now she is useless, and you want to abandon her?"

"Judy, you..." Her mother was stunned. It was obvious that her eldest daughter today was very different from the one she used to be in the old times. She had never spoken to her family like this before.

Emma leaned down, carefully touched "her own" face with her fingertips, and asked softly, "Judy? Judy, can you hear me?"

Except for even breathing, she had no response.

Emma asked Mike next to her, "She really won't wake up, will she?"

"It's hard to say now."

William stood at the end of the bed and muttered, "In fact, we don't have to give up yet. If you can find a way to get us some money, I definitely don't want Emma to die."

The anger accumulated in her heart was vented at this moment. Emma rushed to her father fiercely and grabbed him by the collar, "William Carter!" She wanted to call him like this a long time ago, because for her, this man didn't deserve to be her father at all, not even for a day. It was he who made their poor life worse and worse. In his eyes, his wife and children meant nothing but his tool to make more money for him, "Do you still deserve to be a person? Why did you sign such an agreement? Why did you sell your daughter like a commodity?"

William had never seen his eldest daughter acting this way. He raised his hand to hit her in a hurry, but Mike volleyed his wrist, "Mr. Carter, don't go too far."

Mike pulled Emma aside, but Emma still angrily condemned, "Why bother gambling money? You should gamble your life! If you lose, we'll finally get rid of you!"

"You unfilthy girl!" William took off his shoes and threw it towards his daughter, "You dare confront me right after you married a rich man? If it weren't for me, you can enjoy such a good life now? I'm telling you, I'm your father no matter when!"

Mrs. Carter stood on the side at a loss, while Winston was stunned, the phone in his palm was still on the game interface.

"With all due respect, you are the worst dad I have ever seen." Mike couldn't stand it, so he argued for Emma, "You can go home now. I will send someone to take care of Emma here. As for the expenses or the like, you don't need to worry. But Mr. Carter, I have to remind you not to pester Mrs. Turner any more, not to mention taking the Turner Family as a cash machine. Once you offend us openly, there is nothing good waiting for you ahead."

Mike took Emma's arm and forcibly dragged her out of the ward. Emma leaned against the wall as if losing her soul.

"Mr. Turner has already enjoined that he will try his best to treat your sister. The Turner Family is a major shareholder of this hospital, so you can rest assured. As for your sister's studies, I have notified her school that she is temporarily suspended. Once she gets recovered, she will be able to get back again."

Emma had a terrible headache, and her eyes gradually turned pale. Mike's voice became weaker and weaker. Finally, she didn't know anything anymore.

When Emma opened her eyes again, she found herself lying on a bench in the hospital corridor, her mouth sweet.

"You are awake? You fainted just now and scared me to death. The doctor checked on you and said that you have hypoglycemia."

Emma sat up, her fingertips still numb.

"We have to leave quickly, or we'll be blamed again."

Emma wanted to stay here and take care of "her sister", but Mike reminded her of the agreement again. She had to admit that the thing was indeed effective, like an invisible lasso, which strangled her neck and forced her to obey.

On the way back, Mike promised Emma that he would tell her the situation of "her elder sister" in time, and would take her to the hospital whenever possible.

Mike handed Emma a checklist, "By the way, I had your brain checked when you were in a coma. The doctor said it might be a short-term memory loss after the car accident. So you will be fine. Also, if someone asks later where you had gone, just show them this."

It was noon when they got home. Emma hurriedly prepared lunch and sent it to Bob, but found that the bread, fried eggs, and milk she sent him in the morning were all intact, while Bob was sitting by the window, motionless like a wax figure.

She put down the lunch without saying a word, and left with a cold plate and milk glass.

Back to the room, she felt bad. Her family was in a coma in the hospital, but she was kept in this inhumane home to serve the "emperor", and her bastard father was the one to be blamed.

Taking the chance that Bob left the lunch "cold", Emma read over the agreement again. So she decided to recall the painful experience and finally found a general solution for solving the problem.
