Chapter 9 Nine

The tension between the two was felt by the people at the party, they start to look towards their direction they seems interested in a fight between the ex and present girlfriend Alyssa seeing they were already causing stares change her expression and smile gently at her Emily scoff at this she wondered why she was smiling at her

"You must be Aiden's girlfriend, am Alyssa his childhood friend, nice to meet you" she said friendly holding out her hand for a handshake with her, Emily stare at her hands first before taking it Alyssa step a little close to her and whisper to her "am just letting it go today, the next time you won't be so lucky to save him from my allure" she smirk and threw a flirty wave at Aiden before she walk away from them.

"Good luck with that" Emily shouted at her back, she turn back to Aiden upset "you didn't say anything?" she queried

"Am sorry just that it was fun watching you match up to her" he hold her but she snatch his hand away angrily he tried holding her again but she evade his hands and they continue the same process and turn it to fun they continue until they saw Aiden's mother in front of them, seeing her Emily release his hold on her but he forcefully hold her back

"are you trying to tell me you are in a relationship with her by holding her that way in front of me?" she ask with a giggle and face Emily "you are bold standing up to Alyssa, I already look you up and you don't match up to her in status, must be one strong mind you got young lady"

"Mum!" Aiden called

"What! I am just praising her boldness, isn't that it... what's your name sweetie?"

"My name is Emily" she answered nervous her confidence gone she seem not to like her

"I like your name, what gift do you want me to get you for your bravery tonight?" Emily look at her in confusion she seems lost is she mocking her or being serious

"you see ever since that sly girl broke my son's heart I had this dislike for her, from the first time Aiden brought her home as his girlfriend I knew she won't be of any good and turned out I was right"

"What made you think am different?"

"You like my son, even more than he likes you, I guess you couldn't take your eyes off him even as you eat"

She look down feeling embarrassed "As she been watching her since?" Mrs. Griffin smile at her action

"Don't worry you have my support in this relationship, make sure you win against her" she said and made Emily promise her she excuse herself and left to meet her husband.

when it was time to cut the cake she ask Emily to join the family her husband frown against it but she ignore him and drag her over she look to see the expression on Alyssa's face and smile satisfy with her move.

The party was still going but Emily need to leave since she has class the next day she bid Mr. and Mrs. Griffin goodbye and went out of the party with Aiden they got to the car and he ask the driver to leave they both got in the car and instead of starting the car he turn to her he pull out a box from his pocket he gave it to her and ask her to open the box she look at him with curious eyes she open it and saw a lovely necklace it was diamond she pick it up and admire it

"It's yours, you like it?"

"I love it" she said still looking at the necklace in admiration "thank you"

"I planned to give you during the party but didn't have the chance, here let me put it on for you" she gave it to him and he moved closer and put it on her neck carefully he stole a kiss from her and move back

"Did you ever brought Alyssa a necklace like this?"

"Well she always..." he stopped as he remember Jack's warning again

"Even when she brings talk about your ex, know she's jealous and don't ever try telling her about it unless it's something important just try to coax her" he smiled at her

"you are more important to me now and that's what is important to me now"

Emily look at him as if she's trying to read him he pull her into a hug "what you promised my mother then, you are serious about it right?" he asked

"Of course I made a promise to her"

"then I have nothing to worry about then" he smiled, he remember the way he felt when Alyssa hugged him back then, maybe it was because it was so unexpected but he didn't like the way his body reacted to her touch.

The next day at work news of Alyssa and Aiden's broken off engagement filled the lips of everyone and the news of the new CEO woman filled the air some accused her of being the reason for their break up so were even bold enough to say it to her face she left her desk to get some fresh air and to get away from the talks she stayed there for sometimes and decide to go back in, she can't avoid the situation forever she was going to her office when she saw the staffs rush to greet someone, it seems like someone of importance since they are all going over to welcome her she also follow them to see whoever it is she got there and saw Mrs. Griffin walking to her she wasn't sure if she should go back or stay she decide it is right to greet her, when she got to her side she bow her head to greet her "good afternoon ma'am

"Hello there Emily sweetheart" she said in a high tone and gave her a hug surprising the people there and even Emily herself

"Thanks for coming to this old lady's birthday yesterday" she said her voice still high, enough for the people around them to hear all what she was saying, it's like she was doing it deliberately, Emily decided to play along "of course mother thanks for letting me there" she said raising her voice too, Mrs. Griffin smile at her action seeing she already understand her own action "am going to see Aiden, come along" she wanted to protest but she already drag her to the office with her, they got to Aiden's office and he was busy working on some files "you seems to be working hard son" he look up and saw the two of them he didn't notice them coming in "mum, Emily when did you guys came in?" he stood up from his seat and went to meet them he offer them as seat on the sofa and smile at them

"How can you be working when there are stupid rumors about your girlfriend everywhere?" she asked upset "was that the reason why she came to the company and put on the act earlier?" Emily wondered

Aiden looked confused he didn't seem to know what his mother was talking about, she hand over her phone to him and he saw the news headline 'the popular billionaire Aiden Griffin breaks up with his long time fiancé after being seduced by a new employee in his company'

He pick his phone and dial Jack's number "come over to my office" he look angry now and Emily was so curious about what was on the phone she collect the phone from him and saw the headline "haven't you see it too?" Mrs. Griffin asked seeing her expression it looks like she was unaware of the news she thought she knew about it already, Jack entered and greeted Mrs. Griffin he face Aiden "I already saw the news and am already working on it" he said already aware of why he called him

"How did something like this happen in the first instance didn't you warn the media not to put her picture online?" he said upset

"It looks like someone paid one of the news channel who came to the party yesterday to do this, their main target was Miss Pearce" he explained

"I bet its Alyssa's doing" Mrs. Griffin said also upset about the situation

"Well it's not miss Alyssa, its Mrs. Saunders"

"What! That cunning woman must be out of her mind, she dare to insult my daughter in law all over the internet"

"Daughter in law?" both Emily and Aiden ask at the same time

"What? Are you just planning to date her without getting marry? You will soon be thirty and need to settle down soon, shouldn't be with her?" she ask as she look from both side they both remained silent she turn to Jack "you take care of the media and make sure to get the news off the internet I will deal with that crazy woman" she said and stood up "wait, isn't she your friend?" Aiden asked amazed at her reacting like she hates Alyssa's mother before now

"Am only friends with her because our husbands are friends and because you were in love with her daughter but not anymore" she said and went out closing the door behind her Aiden smile at her words

"Shouldn't you stop her? It doesn't look like she was kidding when she said she was going to take care of her"

"I don't care what she does, Mrs. Saunders deserve whatever she do to her"

They stop talking and both stare at Jack, Aiden gave him a questioning look "I just not leaving the two of you alone in closed door is good enough, you might start a fire" he said answering his look

"you can put out the fire then now get out I have a fire to start" he said and dismiss him he left giving the two of them a warning look, Emily turn to Aiden immediately he left "what do you mean by starting a fire?"

"exactly what I mean sweetheart" he moved closer and grab her in a hug am sorry about that I had no idea" he apologise

"I was shocked but not upset at you besides seeing your mum's trying to help makes me happy"

"But why does it look like the new was saying the truth?" he asked trying to keep a serious look, Emily look at him not understanding

"It really seems am being enchanted by you I can't seems to get my thoughts off you" he grins, Emily catching what he was trying to say hit him on his chest, he laughed as her pouted lips "I like it when you lips are pouted like this" he move in for a kiss, she also draw in but just as their lips brush each other Emily pull away smirking "am not in the mood for a kiss got to go back to my office dear boss" she said and ran out.
