Chapter 7 Her first trial.

She took the chance and went to work that morning, after all she hadn't received any message of her being fired, and as mother luck was by her side, she didn't run into Caesar at all.

Athena looked back to make sure that no one was following her, before she boarded a cap to head back to the den. The cab dropped her, and she started her little walk towards the woods and inside it. The wind was blowing heavily, rattling the trees around, birds took off from their nests flying away as the wind got even stronger than before. Athena was about to take off running, so she would get to the den where it was safe, but she was in for a big problem.

Suddenly, she felt as if her head was being smashed onto the ground as it started pounding harder than ever. She felt as if it was about to explode, and her vision turned blurry. Everything was spinning around her, and it was like the day had suddenly turned into night and the next moment the ground was so close to her face...and she blacked out.

She woke up still feeling a bit weak, but then she wasn't in the woods anymore. She looked around her, everywhere was filled with sand. Mountains and heaps of sand stretched out far to the horizon, and the sun was burning hot! The wind was heavy, and was filled with sand in it...she has to close her eyes to avoid sand from getting inside of it.

Okay, what the hell is she doing in the desert?? How did she even get here? She didn't get kidnapped again, did she? But there was no one else here apart from her, how is she gonna find her way back home?

Then, she heard a growl. It was incredibly loud, and even the grounds shook from it. Looking around, she wondered what had made that sound, then she noticed something. First, it looked like a sand storm was heading her way, and in that sand storm she could see about four red eyes staring back at her. It was running...they were both running towards her in the sandstorm.

Are those... Alphas? She didn't really understand, but she knew one thing for sure.

She's gotta run for her life.

She took off the other direction, running in the sand, but it kept holding her back. She knew they were coming after her, and that kept her moving forward. All that time, she hoped for her werewolf powers to come on again, so she could try and take them down but nothing was happening. She felt totally human. She ran up and down heaps and mountains of sand, turning around from time to time to see them catching up to her. She was scared to death, and didn't know how to escape or out-run them, the sandstorm would soon catch up, and she would probably be dead within minutes in it.

And in those same minutes, they would attack her.

Athena tripped on her feet, and then she rolled down the mountain of sand. Her whole body was aching, mostly her legs but she still got up and ran, coughing out the sand which had gotten inside her mouth. The next time she turned around, the sandstorm was right behind her, and she was sure in the next fifteen seconds it was gonna swallow her. Her mind was in a turmoil as she looked for a solution out of it.

Then she sighted a cave.

Thank heavens!

She sprinted for it with all her might, and she could hear the wind just behind her like a great typhoon. She dived deep inside the cave just before the sandstorm swallowed the entire place. But she couldn't stop moving now, now when she's got another problem consisting of four running red eyes. She stood up, and ran deeper inside the cave, jumping over rocks and other things that didn't look satisfying to the eye. She heard a growl behind her, and knew the alphas had also found the cave. Her heart beat rocketed higher, and all she could do was to keep running.

Suddenly, the cave began to grow smaller. She didn't know if it was her eyes or the pounding in her head that was making her see all this, but the cave looked as if it was compressing!

'holy shit!" She thought as she continued to run, squeezing through the walls which had almost became as small as her. The growl came from right behind her, and almost fainted right there because when she turned around, she finally saw them clearly.

The two Alphas had stopped running and were glaring at her. One stood on a small rock with it's hairy body, blood smeared long teeth and claws which made her shiver, while the other stood on the floor. She couldn't recognize who they were exactly because of their Werewolf forms, but the look on their faces...they wanted to kill her.

She couldn't outrun them any longer. They would be on top of her in less than two seconds, so she just stopped too, unmoving.

She didn't notice that the compressing cave had gone back to the way it was.

She was breathing fast and hard, And with every small step she took backwards, then took theirs forward. Their steps were slow and steady, as they stared at their prey. Athena tried to speak, but it was like her lips had been glued shut.

She didn't know if this was a dream or not, because things were happening on their own just like a dream and this dang wall had been compressing moments ago, but earlier when she was still running outside, she had been pinching herself over and over again so she would wake up if it was a dream.

Nothing had changed, and she was confused as to where exactly she was.

A low growl escaped from the one standing on a rock, who had jumped down. Suddenly, he launched straight for her, it's eyes blazing and claws up front. He was so fast, but Athena had felt it coming. She had gotten herself ready for anything so just before it had launched for her, she had quickly bent down and it flew past her head, landing behind her. The second one looked more cunning and more calculating, it would be harder to read this one.

But she could only think of one thing.

She needed a diversion, or she had to fool them.

She couldn't think of any diversions now, but she had a very stupid idea on how to fool them. She remembered when Kelvin and Collins were fighting yesterday morning, and would launched at each other right above her head. They were both very prideful, and wouldn't give each other the benefit of a doubt, but alphas were much more prideful.

They were prideful about theirselves, about their pack, about their leadership. These two Alphas don't look like they're working together, each one of them is trying to kill her for himself. They might have arrived together, but no two Alphas rule one pack, that's for sure.

The one behind her was now on it's fours, moving back and forth as if waiting for the right moment to come at her again. While the one standing in her front was still growling, it's eyes studying her every breath intake, every eye movement...it was also waiting for her to make a move. She was their prey, and they were studying the right moment to strike at her. First, Athena steadied her nerves.

She needed to be in control of herself before she did what she had in mind. But she wouldn't be able to calm down in this state, and they won't wait for her to calm down would they? She had her fingers crossed, and prayed it would work in her favor.

She took a quick step, as she was about to start running. You know when the prey moves, the predator tends to attack at that moment. She had made sure the wolf who kept walking back and forth was standing exactly in the same line as her, before she made that move. Both of them sped up in reaction to her move, launching about to grab her as she stood in their middle.

She had to aim for the perfect moment, and then just before they could touch her, and sprinted away, and they ended up knocking into one another. But it ended there.

They started fighting to get off one another, and that gave Athena even more time to run to the side of the cave, and then...she met a dead end.

"No!" She cried internally, feeling like she was really gonna be dead in mere seconds.

And she was because when she turned around, they were already running towards her. They just attacked this time with their scary faces, and Athena quickly packed a hand full of sand from the floor, throwing it into their eyes.

She had blinded them and had confirmed it when the first one tried to land on the floor but couldn't see where it was going and ended up knocking it's head onto a rock, while the other knocked into the wall behind her , making the whole cave tremble.

She didn't know how her stupid ideas had been working up till now, but she was glad it did. The alphas had been knocked out hard, and they couldn't even stand up to their feet. She was about to start running, when she realized the ground she was standing on, was kinda moist and soft...like it wasn't the ground at all.

Her body was... sinking inside of it.

She looked down to see where she had been standing... Quicksand??

Oh no oh no. She tried to pull a leg out but it was as if something was pulling her leg into it. Something wasn't right! She had stood right there and took out the alphas, but she had been standing on the rigid hard cave sandy floor, so how on Earth had it suddenly changed into quicksand?

She sank deeper inside till it got to her waist, And she kept struggling to get out of it. She looked around for any sort of thing she could use to pull herself out, but it was just stones and rocks and two unconscious...

Wait, where are the Alphas?

She looked around her, but she couldn't find them anymore. No way, they were here just now, that's impossible. They couldn't have just disapeared right??

The quicksand moved faster now, and her body slipped right through it including her face. She expected to find herself buried Inside the same where she would suffocate and die, but...what she was seeing was far more difficult than that.

Athena was buried down...yes.

But not inside a quick sand.

She was deep inside the ocean!
