Chapter 6 Murder in the palace

Aeryn and Dera headed back to the garden to meet the males. They had only discussed random things and Aeryn wondered why that needed to be spoken in private.

Dera nodded a look to Kaius which Kaius understood perfectly well. She wished she had the mind linked like some of the first generation of their kinds. She wouldn't have to stress before delivering the information she had gotten.

"Follow me" Kaius said. Aeryn wondered why he left his statement so curt and it sounded like a jurisdiction she needed to follow. She didn't like that attitude close to a bit...

"Are we going back home now?" She asked him. It was not up to an hour they had been here and she enjoyed the company of his friends too and she was sure it would be same for him too. " Lord Kaius... ?

"Are you worried I'm going to murder you, well I wouldn't do that unless you try something. .

She stared at him gobsmacked. She hadn't expected him to say such brash words. This man..! He was totally something else. Aeryn wondered how long it took him to show this sides of him to her, two days ago she was planning on classifying him as a calm person but this man was two sided.

Kaius stepped out with Aeryn trailing behind him. For some reasons Aeryn somehow felt the urgency in the way he was hurriedly leaving. Was something happening back home. Kaius helped her into the carriage and sat beside her this time. She eyed him a little.

They was a bit of crease on his face which was hidden behind that ethereal beauty.

The Coachman rode the carriage immediately orders was given to him. Since the distance from Dera Knox's house wasn't that long, they arrived quickly at the castle.

Kaius helped Aeryn out of the carriage. He held her hands as he walked through the entrance of the mansion.

When they reached the castle. It seemed like a small crowd had formed. They was no one in site, just some of the servants. The Lord walked

through the Halls and corridors with his hands still clutching on Aeryn. They stopped at a room where few guards stood outside the door.

When they entered the room, Aeryn gasped in shock at the sight she was witnessing. A woman laid in the pull of her own blood. Her face seemed to be smashed to an unrecognizable state. The sight rose a bile in Aeryn's throat, she had never witnessed such Gore in her life. Her head spun a little. Who could have done such to a human. Blood had been splattered in the room. A broken bottle on the floor as the pieces scattered on the floor.

Who was the woman? Thought Heidi in horror, her hands visibly shaking. She heard a few sobs from someone and her head turn to see Jane consoling her twin- Ann..

Ann was the only witness of the horrific murder but she was visibly shaking by the death that she couldn't utter any word.

Kaius instructed for someone to escort Aeryn to the room so she wouldn't have to look at that abhor sight.

Aeryn sat in the room, her hands holding each other tightly. She had only seen such gory sight in her dream, and even that wasn't as terrifying as this.

Back in the room where the murder occurred.

Ann was still shaking while her mother who arrived from a soiree just now tried consoling her. Jane stood up to talk to the Lord.

"Any idea on what must have killed the maid?" Jane asked. She knew her brother was certain of having an inkling on what might have happened.

"Rogues" . Kaius gave a short answer. Jane stared at the body and discovered the two dots on her neck which was very hard to spot.

"The consistory will be here any moment from now, we can't let them know she saw the rogues" . Jane was worried for her sister. The consistory wouldn't spare anyone who knows of the truth about their existence..

"I would handle everything, just make sure she's fine" . The Lord said exiting the room.

Jane inhaled a deep breath, hiding a secret was never that easy for her. And this, this was the biggest secret she has ever hidden.

The Lord entered the room where Aeryn, she had been here for close to an hour or so. She stood up immediately she saw the Lord step in.

"Lord Kaius... Who was that?... Who did that too her..?" A tear fell from her eyes as she couldn't control her emotions which was going haywire.

Kaius rubbed his hand on his forehead. He walked closer to the almost crying Aeryn and engulfed her in a hug. He hadn't done anything close to that before. He patted her back gently, she wasn't meant to see such sight. He wondered why he was blessed with such a pure hearted person as a wife. He didn't deserve it. His life was hell.

Aeryn would have reacted to the hug if she wasn't this helpless. That sight was too terrifying, the blood everywhere.!! What part of the world had she stepped in

"It's okay Aeryn" Kaius whispered close to her ears. Aeryn hiccuped a little as she tried to calm down a bit.

" The woman was part of the servants, but Ann hasn't said anything about what caused the death, she's not in the right state of mind to say anything" kaius explained. Aeryn understood what Ann was going through. She wasn't even present when the murder happened and she was this terrified, what if she was present??.

"Come with me, you need to eat. You have been out since morning." Kaius said holding Aeryn's hands, Aeryn nodded negatively. She was in no mood for foord right now

" No. I am not hungry." She whispered. Normally she wouldn't deny food but this time she was seriously not hungry. She had lost her appetite and it might take a while to regain it. Kaius didn't press further for her to eat as he knew the reason for her sudden lost of appetite. So far she was taken the sight of the dead body she had just seen making him wonder if his speculations about her was true and the fact that she can't be compelled bothered him. If the consistory gets a whiff of this. Her chance of survival will be minimal.

Aeryn and Kaius both sat in silence different thoughts running through their minds.

Kaius wondered what damned charlatan would have the effrontery to step an inch close to him or his house. Unless someone with intense connection was helping them like someone from the consistory. What's their aim? Or what were they trying to gain by sending rogues to his palace?

Note: The consistory is like an association that maintains the order among them. Their job is to not let the human know of their existence. And maintain balance in the world.
