Chapter 5 Moonlight calls

"Where are we going, Alpha?"

Paying attention to the surroundings, on the road we are taking, we have passed the arch of the Dark moon village, indicating that we are going somewhere else. It made my stomach crunch. I felt distrustful of him, especially now that he remained silent still wearing an intimidating aura.

He just glanced at me warningly not to talk. I shrunk in my seat whilst my hand still squeezing my belly. I don't want to make him mad especially since I'm just here by his side. Being around him is not breathable, I think, if we are stocked in the same place with no exit, I won't be able to breathe for long.

Licking my dry lips, flittering my eyes on him and the road while simply observing what we were going through, I also thought that I can't just be clueless here. What if he kills me when he arrives at the place where he will take me?

My strong heartbeat doesn't take a break. My doubts keep rising, knowing that I did many disrespectful things to him earlier. But if he was going to kill me, why did he help me get out of the Litha moon pack? Sometimes that memory convinces me that he is not that bad, that he also cares about omegas like me.

I inhaled slowly, mentally thankful that the shift process was not attacking me, but I also expected it to surprise me anytime-still, I was able to rest for a while.

The road goes up, it's going to the place where there are more werewolves-humans consider it a mystery mountain, but the truth is that the wolves call it Lupusmons; that is, mountain of wolves.

I held my breath for a moment, thinking how to break his strong wall he built between us, I convinced myself to have a go. I know...I can do it. Allowing myself to breathe freely and pressing my lips together, I tried to look at him. His eyes were straight ahead, his jaw was clenched, and his aura remained cold but I open my mouth to asked again. "A-Alpha..." I trailed off.

I hope I can survive. I expected him to growl out of irritation but luckily he didn't and replied, "You're going to shift under the moonlight, where do you think we're going?"

To Lupusmons...yeah I got it. But why? I'm just an ordinary wolf. I don't need moonlight. I don't come from a royal bloodline like him. This is odd.

Arriving at the middle of the mountain, I still have an hour to wait before my birthday starts. But, the car could no longer continue up to the mountaintop.

Enduring the pain, I had no choice but to get out of the car and try to walk uphill. I was sweating profusely and mentally asked again and again, why the shift process I went through seemed different compared to others?

I was just following behind him making our way up to the top. My stomach crunches as I thought of rogues, especially wild ones. It is very likely that we will encounter some of them. I don't have the ability to fight like him. What if he won't help me once they attack me? I'm scared but I still manage to ask, "A-Aren't there any rogues here, Alpha?"

But he asked back, "Why? Are you scared?"

"Y-Yes..." I admitted gulping down and took a deep breath. "T-They can't be trusted..." I trailed off.

He first stepped up to the three before asking again, "So you want to meet them to prove if they should be trusted or not?"

I don't know why he said that. It's like he considered me an innocent pup that he can scare even with lame threats. "A-Are you...I-I mean...w-why..."

Then he spoke with almost no connection to what he first said, "It depends on what kind of wolf you are. We'll find out later. Now, quicken your steps because I don't like to adjust to slow ones."

Okay, that's just his warning to me, I get it...

I heaved a sigh. I don't know what he thinks about me. I remember what he said; it depends on the outcome of my shift, whether I am his ally or enemy. When I shift, will he know if I'm an ally or an enemy? How? I know in myself I am not his enemy, of course!

But unfortunately, while making our way up and before reaching the top, I was attacked by body pain. I fell to my knees and screamed loudly as the pain worsened. I could hardly take it, I was almost struggling to breathe. The sound of my bones cracking accompanied the cold wind, birds chirping, frogs croaking, rustling leaves sounding under our feet and my screams and cries, dominanting all around.

"You said rogues can't be trusted, meaning they're dangerous but once they hear your screams, I'll leave you here and let them shred you," he spoke warningly.

How can I avoid this if the shift process is slowly killing me? What a day! I really had to hold back my cries, but with another cracking of my bones, I landed on a tree root causing me to let out another yelp. I couldn't help but whimper and just clenched my fist.

I'm currently leaning against the trunk of the tree and not paying attention to the plant leaves that are messing with my face. I was sweating and just looked up at the sky and stared at the bright full moon. My eyes watered from the pain I felt and I just heard the rustling of the Alpha's feet on the dried leaves walking back towards me. "There's 15 minutes left before the new day, we're close to the top."

But I whimpers, "I don't understand. W-Why..." I grunts and went on, "D-Do I really have to shift at the mountaintop? I can just shift on the...pack, o-or... or here, or any place that does-doesn't belong to humans..."

He hisses and come closer. He looked at my sweaty face, and said, "You'll know."

I slowly raised my face and gave him a questioning look. I stammered, "C-Can't you tell me now?"

"One more question, you won't be able to meet your wolf," he said threateningly.

I had no choice but to keep my mouth shut and not dare to ask another question. This is how my life has always been. Always threatened to be hurt, tortured, or killed, even though I felt pain again and again. The suffering I am dealing now, should not affect me anymore but that is unlikely to happen. Pain is always pain.

"Now, get up. Don't wait for me to get bored." He glared at me makes my stomach crunches. I have no choice...of the two of us he is the Alpha. The shift process was extremely painful, yes but who cares? Who am I anyway? Ignoring the tears that welled up in my eyes, I just bit my lip and still tried to stand up. "Now, walked and don't scream, if you don't want to see the bloodshed of various wolves here."

I nodded like a poor mouse. He has a point and not sure whose blood will be spilled-he is alone, I am the only one with him, the lowly omega, his being the strongest Alpha is not enough. As we head to the top, the cracking of my bones attacked again until I could feel them moving and growing more. I fell to my knees again causing him to step back towards me. I hope I didn't piss him off, I really can't take the pain anymore.

Giving him pleading look, manifesting that he would give it to me, I whispered, "I-I think it's time..."

Tears cascaded down my cheeks as I whimpered, thirsty to get mercy from him. But he remained cold and indifferent to my feelings and said, "No. You have 5 more minutes to endure."

I expected him to continue stepping up but I was so grateful yet confused and surprised when he stepped down and scooped me up. A gasp flew from my lips as I automatically hugged his nape for support before he ran towards the very top.

Arriving at the top, I realized that we were only a few steps away from where the moonlight was aimed. I felt his breath in my ear as he put me down and let me kneel on the ground. In front of me is a cliff and here we are on the most extensive rock on the top of the mountain.

There are no trees here and it is central in the moonlight. When the movement of my bones became aggressive, I couldn't stop myself from screaming and it echoed in every corner of the place. I don't care if the rogues can hear me if there are any around.

"Let her out," he growled just as the tips of my fingers opened.

The torturing pain became unbearable. My whole body felt like it was going to explode into pieces. I screamed the word, "Stop!" but I am in the reality that this is the day of my shift.

Suddenly the sky brightened, making me to look up forcefully and the moonlight hits me. I could see nothing but all white. As the pain worsens, I feel my bones are growing. My body rising, I can't feel my feet touching the ground, whilst my clothes exploded.

With the last scream I let out, I seemed to have created a powerful energy. As the moonlight returned to the sky, my wolf's feet landed on the ground. I saw her paws with white fur wrapping the white claws. She looked at Alpha who now has quirked brows yet I can also see in his eyes how amazed he is as he says, "What on earth is going on? How did an omega get a big white wolf?"
