Chapter 6 : tears

They came out of the classroom and headed towards James's. "Lea where are we going?" Yvy asked. "Just follow me and stop talking," Lea replied. When they entered his class there was no one but him and Yvy sensed that he was waiting for them.

"aah! you're finally here. I thought you weren't coming anymore." said James.

Yvy wondered what they had come to do? "Maybe Léa told him what I feel for him, hum, if that's it, it's a disaster" she said to herself.

"Sorry, the teacher held us back a bit in class" Lea apologized.

"Hi Yvy how are you?" James asked, turning to Yvy.

When she heard his name her heart nearly exploded. ''uh! hi James I'm fine thank you" lowering her head.

"Sit down then. We can start working," James said.

"Hey James, here's the math exercise we managed to get over. Since I and Yvy have been thinking about it, we haven't found the solution."

James, who was doing pretty well in math, took the exercise and started to correct it by explaining it to them step by step. His way of speaking, his gestures, made Yvy even crazier for him. At one point, she no longer listened to him at all when he spoke, she was in the clouds. She saw herself kissing him, and smiled thinking about it. He noticed that she was not with him.

"Yvy, are you listening to me?"

"uh yes I'm listening" scratching her head, "why?"

"it looks like you're here with us but your thoughts are elsewhere" frowning.

"Sorry James," she muttered.

Jessica, one of Chloe's bootlickers, walked past James' class. When she saw them she turned back. "So he canceled the ride with Chloe to stay with these two bitches. When Chloe finds out about this hmmm, this info will earn me points in her eyes. Yipeeee!" she said, skipping.

Lea as for her observed James and Yvy without saying anything. She was glad to have been able to bring them closer. From time to time James gave Yvy little sweet glances, and it made her nervous, stressed and embarrassed.

An hour later they had finished the correction of the exercise. James offered to drive them home in his car, but they refused, making the excuse that they would take a detour before returning home.

On the way back, none of them wanted to talk. After hesitation Lea broke the silence.

"So my surprise did you like it?" she asked.

"I really enjoyed spending time with James. Thank you very much Lea, you are an angel."

"You're welcome. I owed you this, after what I did to you. By the way, while he was explaining the exercise to us, I felt you were somewhere else. Hmmm I hope you didn't fantasize about him little rascal." Lea said nudging Yvy with smile.

After a few minutes of walking Yvy arrived home and said goodbye to Lea.

Once inside, she saw a message stuck on the table, it was her mother's writing "Sweetheart I'll be back at 6 p.m., I've already prepared the sauce; you just have to prepare the rice."

"Ah mom, still taking care of me like I'm stills a baby." She thought.

After washing up, she cooked the rice and ate while watching a good movie. At 6 p.m. his mother came home and Yvy served him. They started talking. "Damn darling, today we brought an emergency senator to the hospital he had a stroke, it was hot in the hospital, the whole staff was running in all directions."

Yvy replied that it was normal and that the hospital did not want to lose a powerful man. It would reflect badly on him. Then they changed the subject.

"Mom, I have a few things to tell you" said Yvy.

After a good shower, she cooked the rice and ate while watching a good movie. At 6 p.m. her mother came home and Yvy served her. They started talking. "Damn honey, today we received a senator in our emergency room at the hospital. He had a stroke. It was hot in the hospital, the whole staff was running in all directions.

Yvy replied that it was normal and the hospital did not want to lose a powerful man. It would reflect badly on him. Then they changed the subject.

"Mom, I have a few things to tell you" said Yvy.

"Yes honey! I'm listening to you."

"At first I didn't want to tell you, but then I changed my mind. Yesterday, dad came to see me, he gave me a sum of 20,000 fcfa for my needs during the week and he told me that the next time he will come to see me it will be with his wife Cathia. When her pain subsided, she went to bed thinking about James and the argument she had just had with her mother.

The next morning, as usual, Yvy woke up at 4:30 a.m., washed, dressed, made breakfast and set the table for her and her mother.

During breakfast none of them spoke. There was tension because of what had happened the night before.

After she finished, Yvy cleared away, carried her bag, and said goodbye to her mother abruptly as if she had been forced to.

About twenty minutes later, she arrived at school and headed to her class. As usual, there were few students; and as time passed the class filled up.

Yvy was concentrating on revising a lesson and didn't feel Lea coming. Lea took the opportunity to scare her.

"Booohhh" said Lea, tickling her with both hands on the hips.

Yvy jumped "Damn you scared me" by putting her hand on her heart. "You'll pay for it" smiling slightly.
