Chapter 4 Childhood Sweetheart

Cheryl stood up and took the file from Jarred's hand.

His eyes glinted as though he was surprised. He immediately turned to her.

When he stared into her eyes, it seemed as though he asked her what was going on.

Whenever Jarred wasn't wearing his glasses, his eyes looked so deep and charming. It was as if they held all the tenderness in the world, and their beauty drew Cheryl in and made her lost in them.

But this time, she forced herself to avert her gaze from him and just went upstairs along with the file.

Though she didn't want to accept it, their marriage had come to an end.

Cheryl was about to lose Jarred, the man she had loved for so long.

Such being the case, she couldn't afford to lose their child as well.

Soon, it was almost midnight.

Jarred didn't go back to their bedroom tonight.

Cheryl was tossing and turning in the king-sized bed, looking particularly lonely.

Moments later, she heard the sound of a car engine starting coming from the yard.

She touched her belly, trying so hard to prevent herself from opening her eyes and running after him.

'My baby, Daddy is going to another woman.

What is Mommy supposed to do?'

she asked inwardly.

The next morning, Jarred went back to River Villa.

He was standing upright, and yet his handsome face displayed his exhaustion.

Jarred climbed up the stairs and a pair of bare feet came into his view. The white toes were set off by the dark brown floor, making them all the more attractive.

When he looked up, he saw Cheryl's face.

By the look on her sleepy face, it seemed that she had only just woken up.

She was dressed in a soft silk slip nightgown, and her face looked so pure. The sight of her beautiful face was so tempting, and it made Jarred's eyes dim.

"You're barefooted again,"

he said.

He took a step forward, wanting to carry Cheryl like he always did. But to his surprise, she slapped his hand away.

Cheryl glared at him and gave him the cold shoulder.

'He's still wearing the same clothes as yesterday.

I see… he spent the night with Ines.'

When that thought crossed her mind, she felt even worse. "When will you give me the divorce agreement?" she blurted out.

Her words made Jarred's face turn cold.

There was a red palm print on the back of his hand that showed just how hard Cheryl had slapped his hand away.

Over the past few years, she had never been so cold to him. But now, she was urging him to give her a divorce agreement. 'Is our marriage so irreparable that she doesn't want to try and fix it anymore?

Is it because Enoch Sewell is coming back?' he wondered.

After he heard the conversation between Cheryl and Sheila that day, he asked his assistant to investigate the man they were talking about.

Enoch used to live next to Cheryl's house. They grew up together and had a good relationship.

He didn't leave her until he went abroad to further his studies.

Aside from Enoch, Jarred couldn't find any other man who had known Cheryl for over a decade.

Jarred squinted his eyes and they glinted with madness.

"Why? Are you that excited to leave the Fuller family and find your childhood sweetheart?" he asked.
