Chapter 7 In The Hospital Again

Yates had always regarded Cheryl as though she was his trueborn granddaughter, and he favored her even more than Jarred.

After Cheryl married Jarred, a lesser-known star took advantage of her fame and let the paparazzi take seemingly intimate photos of her and Jarred at a party.

Though the Fuller family was able to suppress the news before it broke out, Yates still called Jarred back and beat him up in front of Cheryl.

The old man only stopped hitting Jarred when she begged him for mercy.

In truth, Yates wasn't worried about his grandson. Instead, he was much more worried about Cheryl. He had said time and time again that the only granddaughter-in-law he'd ever accept was Cheryl.

Because of that, the Fuller family supported her unconditionally.

Now that she and Jarred were getting a divorce, the only way Yates would agree to it was if Cheryl asked for it herself.

Otherwise, Yates would just punish Jarred and teach him a lesson about being a loyal husband.

"Can you please tell my grandpa? I'm begging you. He'll only listen to you."

Perhaps because Cheryl wasn't responding, Jarred felt compelled to speak again.

She felt a pang in her heart. Being born into wealth, Jarred seldom gave concessions, and he rarely ever asked for help unless it was absolutely necessary.

But in order to process the divorce more smoothly and make the position of Mrs. Fuller available, he was able to lower his pride.

'Is Ines that important to him?

Then why was he so passionate with me earlier? Am I just a sex toy to him now?'

Tears welled up in Cheryl's eyes. She clutched the sheets tightly, and veins stood out on the back of her hands.

At last, Jarred sensed something strange and looked up.

Cheryl was sitting on the edge of the bed, within his reach. However, he didn't have the courage to hold her hand again.

Her nightgown was disheveled, accentuating her sexy body. The lifted hemline of her clothes exposed her slender legs.

Her shoulders were half-exposed, making her look all the more beguiling.

"Okay," Cheryl said, breaking her silence.

But all Jarred could think of right now was how thin her nightgown was.

'She just threw up yesterday. What if she catches a cold today?' he wondered.

His heart tightened. "You should get dressed quickly," he said.

Cheryl's hands trembled. She felt as though she was thrown into an ice cellar. She had just agreed to his request, and he already urged her to change and go out. 'Can't he wait for a moment?

Is he so eager to see his grandpa and tell him that we're getting divorced?'

All the blood in her body seemed to have frozen over and her mind was thrown into disarray.

The pain in her heart was so intense that she could hardly breathe.

She got off the bed, seemingly in a trance. It was as if she was treading across the clouds and everything around her was distorted and blurred.

The only thing she could feel at the moment was the heart-wrenching grief brought upon by this horrible joke of fate.

Cheryl walked into the bathroom, staring at her face in the mirror.

The light in the bathroom was so dazzling that she felt dizzy. By the time she regained her senses, she was already falling to her side.

'I can't fall!

My womb…'

Cheryl was struggling to keep herself conscious. While she was dazed, she felt a warm hand behind her back.

Finally, she let go of her consciousness.

Soon, her vision faded to black.

By the time she woke up, she was already in the hospital. The smell of disinfectant pervaded in the air.

She saw Jarred right away and locked her eyes on him.

He was talking to a doctor nearby. "What else do we need to pay attention to?" he asked.

The doctor shook his head and replied, "Nothing. Your wife is just lacking rest recently, and she hasn't been eating well. All of that combined with her stress caused her feebleness. There's no need to worry too much."

The doctor's voice sounded quite familiar.

Cheryl took a closer look and broke into cold sweat.

It was the doctor who informed her a few days ago that she was pregnant.

"But, Mr. Fuller…" The doctor frowned. "Do you know that a pre—"

"Jarred!"
