Chapter 8 The Will

She took them immediately, and handed Maxwell a copy of the document showing transfer of ownership to lend verisimilitude to Nathan's claims; in seconds she had passed the rest to all executives present in the boardroom.

!!!

Maxwell's eyes widened in shock.

He slammed the paper on the table, tightening his jaw, "What's the meaning of this?!"

"Five years ago, this firm was passed down to me under a legal binding. In other words, I have been the CEO of Aspen Corporations five years before this time, this is my first formal introduction

"Where did you get this?! I had never been informed of this, nor has it been discussed by the family either. Perhaps this is a fake, don't come here to make trouble" He had dropped his pretence of brotherhood note of speaking to Nathan as he normally would, unfiltered and intransigent.

However, the executives had mixed views on this matter. The documents in their hands although photocopies were clearly not fake. Its messages were clear as crystal stressing on Nathan's succession and It had the old CEO's unbending signature on it. How could it possibly be a counterfeit?

What they couldn't understand was why weren't they supposed to be notified on major matters like this? What was the old man thinking?!

Aspen Corporations was a hot cake and the most profitable among the numerous firms owned by his late father. There was no way Maxwell could let this go over some mere written words in a paper.

Maxwell swallowed with difficulty, his throat seemed to have gone arid at that minute, "It doesn't matter. Unless we get Dad's lawyer to prove this is real I shall not believe this. I won't be compliant at all!"

Tsk! That old man even when he is dead he is still able to create discord in the living realm. Keeping loose ends in this kind of matter only made things worse.

Mr Jameson sighed. It was obvious to compensate for Maxwell's anger later on, when he found out his younger brother had inherited the most coveted firm instead of him, their father, Mr Wither had let Maxwell run the company during the years of Nathan's absence. Little did he know it would backfire and triple the enmity between them.

He could only help clear the misty air a little. Solving this was entirely up to the rest of the Wither's family.

"It doesn't matter if you are willing to accept this or not Maxwell. It is clearly stated in these documents that, Nathan has been this firm's CEO for the past five years, he shouldn't be foolish enough to try forging these knowing the dire consequences. All of us here are very familiar with documents like these, if there are any suspicious parts it would be pointed out immediately!"

Maxwell glared at Old Mr Jameson and gritted his teeth. This old fool was a good friend of his late father and for some reason had never seen him well in his eyes even when he was treated with the utmost respect.

At this moment it was clear Mr Jameson didn't plan on helping him, even if he had worked with him favourably for a while now. This made Maxwell even more irritated.

Did he think he didn't know all of what he had mentioned, how dare he butt in into family affairs?

Just then, the meeting doors suddenly burst open introducing four more intruders in the meeting room.

"That's the man over there." Nichole breathed, spotting Nathan as soon as she came in, he was too radiant to go unnoticed from her sharp eyes.

She was only arriving at this moment because she stalled till the minute Nathan would have been thoroughly humiliated being the perfect time to have him thrown out of the premises. However, she was stunned by the sight before her.

What was he doing on the seat of power and her boss stood aside drenched in cold sweat?

This wasn't the scene she had expected to meet at all!

"Good you all arrived just in time. Security! Escort Maxwell out, I have a meeting to continue promptly." Nathan commanded in an authoritative tone.

"You shall do no such thing!" Maxwell instructed immediately.

The security officers stood looking very confused, on one hand, it was their boss who had just given them orders and on the other, it was a man who eluded such an intimidating aura they could feel their legs slowly turning into jelly.

How could someone be this dominating?!

Mr Jameson shook his head disapprovingly. Yet again he would have to step in or at this rate these two siblings if let to argue would cause an unsightly uproar.

"Mr Nathan we have here is now the company's new CEO," He explained to the poor guards, "Since you work in terms of ranks, I'd advise you listen to his words first, as he is your new boss."

Mr Jameson had sided with neither of the siblings; he only explained the terms to the newcomers, leaving them to their choices. And of course, choosing to follow Nathan's order would be the wisest decision.

Seeing that Mr Jameson, Late Mr Withers' good friend had explained it this way, the guards knew they could not be deceived by him and had immediately gone to seize Maxwell, dragging him to the exit.

Maxwell struggled to be set free, "Do you all really want to go on with his shady claims. If he had been the Ceo for the past five years Why does he only claim the title now? Why doesn't he bring a lawyer to ascertain his claims then we can talk business? This would be a wise decision to make at this moment to avoid making terrible mistakes, after all, he might have taken all that time in making foolproof fake contract documents " He spouted in one breath.

As long as the board members opposed this, he could easily send Nathan out and had his 'evidence' invalid in a short time. There was no way he would lose his position as Ceo.

Although he made sense with Nathan's

suspicious timing, none of the executives agreed with him as they all awkwardly averted their gazes somewhere else. All of them had evaluated the pros and cons of their actions. Even if they sided with him at this moment and Nathan was thrown out instead, wouldn't he still be back with stronger evidence in a short while? By then he would bear a grudge with them.

It was never good to have a sour relationship with one's partners, especially if it was the one who had the upper hand in most of the deals. Siding with Maxwell was simply a waste of time and efforts, even Mr Jameson seemed to be leaning on Nathan's angle, who were they to deter?

He had to go.

Seeing the reactions of the executives Maxwell flashed a bitter smile, he had been abandoned by these snakes!

He shook his arms out of the grip of the security men, "It's alright, you can let me go. I can walk by myself."

He turned to Nathan, his expression unreadable, "Since you are back you should come visit the mansion, it's been a while since we had a full house."

With that, he left the meeting room, not sparing its occupants another glance.
