Chapter 10 Make babies

With the guidance of the employees which were quite familiar with her, Evelyn arrived just in time to see the four year old Kendrick squabbling with his mother at the back.

"I won't repeat myself again Ken, open up. You are missing a lot of nutrients in your diet. If you don't eat this, you might fall sick again." A frustrated voice rang out, trying to reason with the stubborn child.

"No, I don't want to eat that, it's too horrible!" The young boy clamped his mouth shut, refusing to listen to his mother.

"Rose."

"Aunty Evie!" Kendrick turned to meet Evelyn and quickly escaped his mother's grasp, rushing towards her to hide her back.

Evelyn bit her lips in displeasure. What had made her normally fearless, godson so scared? He had even Ignored her outstretched arm for a hug, just to hide from it.

"Mom wants to feed me that disgusting stuff. Tell her not to." He squeaked, holding unto Evelyn for protection.

"Who dares bullies my Godson? What are you forcing him to eat huh? He says he doesn't like it. Don't force him." Evelyn said protectively.

Evelyn took a look at the 'mountain' of vegetables Rose packed on little Ken's plate, and shook her head.

"No wonder he refused to eat, all that food is just too much for him to handle, reduce it a little."

Rose rolled her eyes, "Too much? I don't think so. He eats twice as much doughnuts and snacks and never gets tired of it. Making him eat only this much is quite lenient of me. He only got out of the hospital a few days ago. Because of his picky diet, the doctor said he needs more variety of fruits and vegetables, otherwise he won't have a strong immune system, his growth might be stunted even."

"You are like his second mother, Evelyn. He listens to you. Help me talk to him, it isn't punishment, I'm just worried for him." Rose said, her heart in her mouth.

"Really? It's that bad?" Evelyn exclaimed, quite surprised.

Kendrick held on to Evelyn tighter, giving her the best puppy eyes he could make at the moment, he couldn't lose to his mother. Evelyn was the only thing standing in her way from practically forcing such food down his throat. Gosh! He hated veggies.

"Aunty Evie, don't let her feed me that. I couldn't possibly bear it." Little Ken cooed, looking very pitiful.

Evelyn couldn't handle all this cuteness and instantly became biased again, loading her sense of reason.

**Cough! "I mean, what do you expect? You literally own a bakery, thereby you tempt him everyday with so many sweet treats around. Don't you think it's your fault if he develops a picky taste?" She scolded Rose.

Rose avoided eye contact with Evelyn, "We don't know that."

Evelyn squatted down to meet little Ken's height, "Your mommy isn't trying to punish you, she only wants you to eat that so you can grow big and strong. You should listen to her more often and not be too stubborn."

Kendrick bowed his head, tearing up a bit, "I know Aunt Evie, But the food is just too bad."

Was his dear auntie going to make him eat that too? He had been so cute just now, is his face losing its effects on adults already?

Little Ken worried, feeling bad about his misfortune.

Evelyn was quick to notice this and quickly thought of a way to satisfy both parties.

"Hmm, how about we make a deal? You finish up your meal and I get you anything you want." Evelyn proposed.

Hearing this, Kendrick perked up instantly.

"Anything I want?"

"Oh boy." Rose knew where this was going, and it wasn't on the healthy side, at all.

"Then auntie promises to make me her delicious ice cream when next time mommy and I visit? I'd eat a large bowl of it!" Little Ken requested with so much anticipation.

"Yes, with some strawberries and bits of chocolate chips, just how you like it." She pinched his nose playfully.

But then she realised, she had just scolded Rose for tempting little Ken too much junk foods with her delicious pastries scattered about. Wasn't ice cream much more unhealthy?

At this moment Evelyn thought proposing such a deal wasn't a good idea. Before she could realise she had already been outsmarted by the little boy.

He was so smart.

"Okay, since you've promised I'd be eating now." Little Ken didn't fuss anymore, took his meal and sat in a comfortable position taking in mouthfuls.

Although his tongue rebelled against its taste he fought against it like a champ, occasionally squeezing his face.

"Hmph, it isn't fair that he gets ice cream even after being so naughty. Where is the justice in this?" Rose groused feeling wronged.

"Cute is justice." Evelyn answered simply.

"Ahh~ I should have known, it's impossible for you both to be reasonable, especially when you join forces to bully the weak me." Rose accepted her fate, she had been defeated by the duo.

"I'm done eating, auntie Evie." Kendrick chirped in triumph. He had just gobbled up a bowl of veggies without retching, what a great achievement!

"Mmmn, that's a good boy! The plate is clean, that's two mini bowls of ice cream for you!"

"Yay! Auntie Evie is the best!" Little Ken danced excitedly, today was a lucky day for him. He had promised not one but two of his favourite aunt's delicious homemade ice creams.

"Now run along I need to borrow your mommy for a while."

"Okay!" He ran out almost immediately, even if Evelyn hadn't requested this he would have found a way to leave.

Kendrick was a free spirited little boy and didn't like to be confined in a place for too long.

Rose looked on as Evelyn and Kendrick conversed and couldn't help but feel a tad bit jealous. Her little boy wasn't this free with her, however, it consoled her that it was her best friend and not some random stranger.

If that happened, she didn't know what to make of herself as a mother.

She shook her head, "You pamper Kendrick too much. I wonder just how spoiled your children would become since they would surely have such a doting mother."

Evelyn sighed, "It would be a miracle if I could make babies first."

Rose was quick to realise what she had done and panicked, "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to..."

"It's okay Rose. I know what you meant." Evelyn gave her a reassuring smile.

Rose eased a bit and took a seat closest to Evelyn, "Do you still miss him?"

Evelyn shook her head, "No."

"I don't need to, actually, he returned this morning."

Rose opened her eyes wide in shock, "He did? What are you doing here then, won't you spend time with your hubby? I'm sure you miss him very much!"

After a second, Rose spoke again as if she suddenly had a mind reset, "That bastard! He dares show his face into your life after being gone for so long! I hope he has a good explanation for his bizarre actions.

"Hmph, you were right to leave him at home and come visit me instead. That should give him some time to acknowledge his wrong doings. Forget what I said in the first instance, I was too excited then." Rose flared, speaking without resistance.

Evelyn smiled a bit as her dear friend ranted angrily in her stead, but alas the truth was far from what she assumed it to be.

"It's quite the opposite, Rose." Evelyn finally spoke, the words left some bitter taste in her mouth as they escaped her lips.
