Chapter 4 Shameless

Evelyn's eyes fluttered open, she had been awoken by the splashing sound of the shower.

She sat up and stretched her limbs before checking her phone, it was only three minutes past seven. She had slept longer than usual, this was good. She had recovered enough energy to face the day.

Splash!

"En?"

The shower was on.

Mayhaps, Emma decided to run the bath before waking her up. It sounded like it was overrun, splashing to the floor. It wasn't wise to waste so much water.

Emma was Evelyn's house keeper. She was the only one who hadn't been dismissed from all of the house's staff. This was because Evelyn liked Emma's naive and humble personality. She was a breath of fresh air; one of the most enthusiastic to welcome her when she had gotten married.

Although Evelyn cooked her own meals, Emma was responsible for cleaning and keeping the house orderly, Evelyn trusted her that much.

Evelyn promptly got out of bed and ambled towards the bathroom.

Evelyn stood at the entrance, stretching out her right hand to open the bathroom door.

"Huh, that's quite a lot of steam." She voiced out involuntarily.

Emma knew she liked her bath water, mild, the perfect balance between hot and cold. But on reaching the bathroom door the place was filled with so much vapor she could hardly see a thing.

How could Emma make such a careless mistake?

"Are you trying to take a peek at my nude body Evelyn? I didn't know you were so shameless." A cold voice rang out from the bathroom.

"Kyaa!!!" She screamed, not expecting someone to be in the bathroom.

This voice... She knew it all too well.

It was Nathan's. His deep baritone voice was entrancing, even if it had been so long she heard it last, she couldn't help but tremble in reaction. But when did he return? He hadn't bothered to announce his arrival to her at all.

"What's the matter?!" Emma barged in, in a panic after hearing her mistress let out such a blood curdling scream.

"If you found a mouse, we can move out immediately. I'd call an exterminator." Emma was starting to scare herself as she guessed what could have possibly made Evelyn scream so loud.

She saw her mistress standing in front of the steamy bathroom and understood.

"Master had returned early this morning. I let him in." She explained.

Evelyn rubbed on her temples, trying to calm her racing heart, "You can leave Emma."

Emma left the room with a grin on her face

She was glad Master Nathan was back now, her madam would cease moping around and would finally be happy.

By this time, Nathan stepped out of the shower clad in his lower body with a large towel.

Evelyn gulped as she tried hard to avert her eyes from his body.

"W-why are you here?" Her voice was shaky and unstable.

She didn't expect him to acknowledge her text. She was actually worried he wouldn't return to pay his last respects to his father since Nathan was very angry with him for making him marry her.

Nathan didn't bother to spare her a glance as he spoke.

"You don't wish for my presence?"

He frowned and walked past the woman in front of him to his private wardrobe.

"I didn't mean it that way," She clenched her dress, "Your return was unforeseen... so I was very surprised since you hadn't announced your decision beforehand."

He had ignored her for five years and she gradually stopped ever expecting his return. Seeing Nathan before her even after the past few minutes still left her stupefied till this very moment.

"Last time I checked, this is my mansion. Do I need your permission to visit?"

Evelyn's legs felt weak from shock, she sauntered cautiously to the bed and sat, her eyes not daring to leave Nathan's figure for fear that if she should blink away he would suddenly disappear and be out of reach again.

She twiddled her toes trying to keep calm. After a brief moment Evelyn couldn't hold back her thoughts anymore,"Why were you gone for so long?

Actually, she was waiting for an excuse to keep her belief valid. The thought that she was holding on to, which she used in comforting herself all this while.

What if he had something of dire importance he desperately needed to attend to and didn't have the time to inform her?

He must have lost his smartphone and changed his call line which was why he never replied to her messages.

Although he didn't love her, he respected her as his wife, right?

That's true! They were the closest of friends in their childhood . Of course he didn't mean to treat her as such!.

Whatever reason he threw at her she was ready to take it she wouldn't make a fuss and try to understand him more than castigate.

"Business." He replied in monotony.

Business? That was it?.

"What kind of business?" Evelyn pressed on, not willing to have that as an answer.

She was determined to find out what 'business' was so urgent he had abandoned her on the same day after marriage not even staying long enough to consummate their marriage.

For five years he was gone without contact and he had downed his explanation to just one word. She couldn't accept that.

She would not accept this!

"You are being very irritable with your questions Evelyn! I do not have to go into detail about my affairs. Just know that I have returned and I plan to stay for a while." His tone was aloof and distant, making Evelyn develop goosebumps across her skin.

Evelyn kept her mouth shut in fear. She hated it when Nathan spoke to her like that.

She could only be quiet and endure it. She wouldn't want to make the mistake of pissing off Nathan.

What if she mistakenly says the wrong thing and causes him to leave her again?

Evelyn made a mental note to pursue the matter later when he was a bit calmer.

Distracted, her thoughts became focused on the next best thing. Nathan still had some water droplets scattered all over his body. His large manly frame stood only a few feet across where she sat.

Nathan's symmetrical face caught her attention first .It wasn't news that Nathan was handsome. His chiseled jawline and dreamy brown eyes coupled by the bit of baby fat on his cheeks made him look absolutely adorable.

Only clad in a towel, Nathan's streamlined abs were in full view entrancincing Evelyn even further. It seemed he didn't stop working out even after he left her. She couldn't help but stare at his broad chest wondering just how comfortable it would be if she could lay her head on it for a while listening to his heart beat.

He looked very attractive using a small towel to dry his short black hair roughly as the sun rays room the window rested on half of his build.

The more she studied him the more reasons his body gave to make her addicted. He was so handsome, each glimpse she took was an eyeful of perfection. Evelyn felt so attracted to him at this very moment overwhelmed by the excessive pheromones he gave off.

Evelyn blushed red in the process, fazed by her own thoughts.

Nathan casted a menacing glare at Evelyn.

He had noticed Evelyn gaze at him from the very moment it started. He was about to get dressed but Evelyn only sat there ogling his body.

Wouldn't this woman leave and give him a bit of privacy?

Besides that he could see her flush red every now and then. Just what was she thinking?

He frowned deeper.

He shouldn't have had much expectations about her. He had been gone for five years who knew if this scheming woman was able to keep herself pure.

He was probably getting molested in her mind now.
