Chapter 5 The Business Tycoon Latham

Latham looked around the explosion site, then turned to John and said with a frown, "John, you must bring the criminals to justice. They are too bold and lawless to do this."

John looked around the messy parts of the villas affected by the explosion and nodded solemnly.

That gangster was much more aggressive than he had expected.

After seeing that John and Latham were done talking, Captain Brown trotted forward and reported the situation based on Rhett's words.

"Who is this Rhett?" John looked at Captain Brown and asked in confusion.

"He is Christine's bodyguard," Latham cut in at the right time. John nodded.

Then Latham walked up to Rhett and said kindly, "Thank you."

"I'm just doing my job." Rhett waved his hand and looked at the elegant man in front of him curiously.

He was curious about what his grandfather's relationship with Latham could be for his grandfather to do Latham such a big favor, forcing him to be Christine's bodyguard.

"Okay, you go back with the girls to get some rest. I'll take care of the rest," Latham said, patting Rhett on the shoulder.

"He can't leave just like that. He hit me twice, and it's against the law to hurt someone,"

shouted the property manager. He happened to wake up again and see that Rhett was about to leave.

Latham looked around in confusion. Then Rhett walked up to him and whispered something in his ear.

It was only then that he was enlightened. He walked to the property manager and said, "I'm Latham Stewart. Do you know me?"

"I don't care who you are. This man beat me, so he can't leave. There are so many policemen here today. I'll see who dares to show favoritism,"

said the property manager, throwing caution to the wind. He looked at Rhett with eyes full of hatred. He was not scared, thinking that he would only be slapped a few more times at the worst.

The expression on Captain Brown's face changed when he heard this. He immediately felt that things became tricky. It was true that Rhett hit the manager, and there were so many witnesses around.

The property manager's subordinate ran to him in a panic.

"Sir, Mr. Latham Stewart is our boss. I saw him cut the ribbon during the opening ceremony of this villa district."

"I don't care! He hit me, so he has to pay for it. Wait... What? Boss?" The property manager turned to his subordinate in astonishment.

Then he fixed his eyes on Latham, and cold sweat slowly trickled down his face.

Now he knew why the name sounded so familiar when he heard it earlier.

"You can take a few days off to rest, then come back to work later. You also need to go to the hospital. The company will reimburse all your medical expenses, okay?" Latham looked at the property manager and said politely.

"Oh, no, Mr. Ste... Stewart. I don't need to rest. I'm fine. I can come to work as usual."

The manager's usual glib tongue became dull this time. And he was at a loss for words for a while.

Latham didn't say anything more. He just patted the property manager on the shoulder, turned around, and left.

Since the person involved in this matter was his daughter, he thought that the property manager was not doing the right thing. However, as the boss of the company, he couldn't punish the property manager too severely. After all, the latter's purpose was only to protect the company's interests.

If the property manager admitted that it was indeed an explosion and the company would take responsibility for all the consequences, things would be trickier.

The accident today was only proof that there was a big problem with the security system in this villa district. And this would cause unnecessary public alarm.

If that was the case, it would be really difficult to deal with the property manager. After all, there was something wrong with his stand.

Rhett shook his head and sighed. Then he turned around and walked towards the house, lamenting that the business world was really complicated.

"Ladies, let's go back. Or do you prefer to stand here outside like sculptures?"

Upon hearing Rhett's voice, Rebecca glared at him. Then she held Christine's and Angie's hands and walked into the house.

And since the police had already cordoned the area, the onlookers in the villa district dispersed gradually.

Some of them, who had a wide range of friends, had recognized Latham, the famous business tycoon in the city. And they were very excited.

They were glad that his daughter lived in the same villa district with them.

Because this meant that they could have a big chance of meeting and even talking with Latham in the future.

It was just a pity that today was not a suitable time. Otherwise, they would certainly go and get acquainted with him.

Latham walked to John, who had been busy checking the scene, and said, "John, thank you for today. I know we have caused you so much trouble. I have to go inside to accompany my daughter first. If you need any help in the future, contact me at any time."

"Go ahead. She must be too scared until now," John said with a nod.

Captain Brown stood next to John and just listened to their conversation. He couldn't help thinking, 'Big shots are always privileged.

If they are ordinary people, they will have to go with us to the police station to make a statement before they can go home.

But since they are big shots, they can simply answer a few simple questions at the scene and then leave.'

Then the expression on his face became stern. From now on, he had to make sure that the security patrol in this area would be upgraded. They couldn't allow such accidents to happen again.

"Liar, do you know what's your fault?" Angie asked Rhett in a crisp voice as she sat on a small stool.

"Fault? I risked my life to save her. What's wrong with it?" Rhett was rendered speechless.

"Humph! If you didn't piss Christine off, she wouldn't have gone to the car. And if she didn't start the engine, the explosion wouldn't have happened. So it's your fault, right?"

Angie's crisp voice rang out in his ears again.

Rhett was stunned. There seemed to be no problem with this logic. Then he secretly glanced at Christine, who was sitting on the sofa.

Angie's words also made Christine's eyes light up.

She finally understood why she felt wronged. Obviously, she hated Rhett. She didn't want him to be her bodyguard, so she wanted to kick him out.

But he saved her life. She couldn't kick down the ladder now. That was why she fell into a dilemma.

She looked at Angie with appreciation. Angie chuckled and made a gesture of victory to her.

Rebecca looked at Angie and shook her head. She knew that Angie was trying to stir up trouble.

Then she looked at Rhett and thought of the scene where he saved Christine. She was lost in thought.

Rhett observed Rebecca's expression and knew that this smart woman seemed to have sensed something.

After all, he was just standing outside the car at that time. But he pulled Christine out in time. How did he know there was a bomb in there?

But no matter how smart Rebecca was, she could never figure out the answer.

"Daddy..." As soon as Latham entered the living room, Christine greeted him warmly.

"Christine, you must be scared. But don't worry. Now that Rhett is here, you will be safe from now on." Latham comforted her and then looked at Rhett with a smile.

"Daddy, I don't want Rhett to be my bodyguard. I don't think he is suitable for it." Christine put forward her opinion again with a firm expression.
