Chapter 5 Life started loving her

It was barely 10am on the wall clock when couple of nurses stepped inside Dr. Priya's room.

One of them carried a booklet around and wrote down notes as she stepped inside while the other placed the tray of medicines on the bed.

Dr Priya had just stepped out of her bathroom still in her nightdress and her toothbrush in her mouth watched them closely.

"Dr. Cynthia would like you to come down to her OPD, however; she insists on you taking these medications."

The senior nurse smiled causally as she left the room while the junior followed her.

Dr. Priya walked closely and examined the tray of pills and closed the door on the face of the nurses. She quickly dispersed the pills into the toilet and flushed it. She stared at the mirror and saw reflection of a nervous sweaty face of woman who was clueless of its surrounding.

She walked wearing a labcoat holding the book close to her chest as she made her way to the OPD of the senior doctor Cynthia and was shocked to see the queue of patients standing outside.

She was stopped by some junior doctors who didn't allow trespassing due to the patients queue.

She quietly followed their instructions and found a vacant seat just beside the security guard. . The patients had dispersed and the senior doctor was sitting inside along with the junior doctors. She walked over and knocked on the door.

Dr. Cynthia looked surprise and removed her spectacles,

"Where were you, Dr.Priya?"

"I was waiting for your OPD to get over, madam," replied Dr Priya nervously.

She instructed her juniors to step out and close the doors behind as Dr. Priya stepped inside.

"Dr.??" I wanted you to be with me today in the OPD."

"I wanted to, madam" she paused.

"Dr. Priya, you were my student many years back. I was there by your side when you were brought in to the hospital. My husband promised me that whatever it is, you will always be working for our hospital."

Dr. Cynthia said as she stood up and walked over to the basin and began to sanitize her hands. She turned around and continued.

"Dear doctor. I was in Europe all these years studying and thinking my students were doing great and my husband was handling this hospital very well. I was shocked to see you in this state; it was my duty to ask about you. I neglected and I am wholly responsible, my child." She admitted.

Dr. Priya sat on her seat in silence without knowing what to respond.

"Although its been 14 years, I am gonna to reopen the case, if you don't mind" Dr. Cynthia said.

"14 years.. yes I think so???" Dr. Priya asked with baffle look in her eyes.

"Yes, my child. Do you remember anything?." Dr. Cynthia asked

There was a silence.

Dr. Cynthia took her seat again and removed a file,

"Here are your reports, Neurologist Dr. Steven has submitted, he is quite sure you can recover to your normal life."

"This is all I have, Madam?? My hospital is my home sincerely and everyone is my family. I don't remember anyone or anything." Dr. Priya replied wholeheartedly.

"What about your husband? Your kid?" She asked

"I don't remember anyone." Dr. Priya replied sadly

Dr. Cynthia rub her eyes in disbelief.

"No one comes to meet you," Dr. Cynthia asked,

"No one I know, either I have forgotten how they look or either they forgotten me." Dr Priya replied sadly,

"I have seen you working in wards as a helper." Dr Cynthia asked

"I feel no shame in working for the patients, Madam," Dr Priya replied

"Are you doing this in favor; you don't need to?" Dr Cynthia said.

Dr Priya turned numb

"Madam, I would like to begin working with you from today." Dr. Priya said softly

"Good!! For starters, you can sit and take history of the patients." Dr. Cynthia advised.

"Thank you, Madam," Dr Priya said politely

"I want you to become independent, Dr. Priya, Its time you find your family and find a prosperous career. Don't take me wrong, I won't be there always for you, Doctor". Dr. Cynthia said and pointing to the book in her arm.

"Its good to see you reading books, Keep on reading for its time to change and see the possibilities." She added with pause

"I am reopening the case, Dr Priya." Dr Cynthia said looking at her holding her hand. "I want to bring justice and persecute the criminal behind this act and once maybe I can do something to bring back hope in you. There is nothing to feel low, don't blame yourself ever. I am here for you and promise you will start studying once again."

"Madam, I have cross that age,"

Dr Cynthia smiled, "Go child, nothing is impossible."
