Chapter 2 It happened so fast. No one had time to do anything, but watch. Jason Medina, The Manhattanville

....Priya walked on and took the stairs instead of the elevator. She removed her mobile and began dialing her home. After some time a girl picked up the phone and sounded irritated as it was the early hour of morning and told her that her mother was unavailable as she was asleep.

"Pearl!! Its your sister."

Dr Priya remarked.

"Well!! You never thought about it when you got married,"

She said and disconnected the phone.

Dr Priya looked at the phone and saw that battery was nearly over.

She dialed her husband continuously finally after nearly three attempts she gets him on the line.....

"Hi!! !"

She said softly holding the phone closer to her ears.

"how was the operation?"

Voice at the end of the line asked in a grumpy tone.

"good!! I know you are still angry. You have to understand, this is my life. I love what I am!! I have to do this for us."

"Is it money?? I got a good job!! "

The voice replied...

"Its not money,..you will not understand."

She replied softly and then she paused and asked

"do you love me???"

Suddenly the phone goes off as the battery is drained off.

Dr Priya stares at the dead phone and is about to throw it but controls her action and stares at the empty car parking lot in front of her with teary eyes.

She slowly puts the phone in her purse and walks towards the exit when she hears footsteps following her.

She pauses for a while tries to look around and find the entire floor behind her in total darkness. She notices a silhouette of man standing at some distance.

She hurriedly makes her way towards the exit, but the footsteps started to get louder. She began to run but got over-run by the intruder who began to twist her hand.

He pushed her on the floor; even her cries weren't helping as she was thrown on to the floor and punched several times.

Dr Priya, didn't surrendered and threw punches with her tiresome hand which didn't prove effective. He continue to hit her vigorously with a staff that he held in his hand until she dropped cold.

He watched his victim as she surrendered and then he took advantage of the night. Her cries went silent as a siren of an ambulance doing its routine hospital duty in the background overtook her voice.
