Chapter 4 Something is better than nothing

THE STAFF ROOM

It was nearly 12 midnight, as Dr. Priya walked briskly towards her room which was situated on the topmost floor of the hospital which was provided by the Management. She had worn sister's uniform and tiredly dragged the mop along with her. She reached the room and was content to find that one of the sisters had kept a plate of dinner neatly covered near the doorstep.

She grinned and murmured to herself as she reached for the keys in her uniform pocket. As she happen to open the door she was surprise to hear a familiar voice.

"Dr. Priya,"

She turned around and looked at the pretty mature Dr. Cynthia standing in the corridor. She seemed ageless looking smart dressed in off-white top and jeans and wearing spectacles.

"I see you had a busy day," She said

Dr. Priya placed the mop onto a bucket and wiped her hands to her apron. Her eyes were filled with admiration as she shook her hands.

"Seems you are still back to cleaning and taking orders.!!" Dr. Cynthia noticed

"No, Ma'am. Just glad to help the staff whenever I am needed."

Dr Cynthia removed a form from her handbag and handed over to Priya

"Ma'am, What's this about??''

"It's the manuscript of your thesis that you had submitted way back when you were my student."

Dr. Cynthia said as she paused and looked in her eyes and said "We need doctors Dr. Priya not just any staff. I understand your pain. You need to live and return to being a doctor."

"Yes, Ma'am," Dr Priya nodded

"I want you to help me in my OPD along with the other juniors." Dr Cynthia

"Thank you, Ma'am."

Dr. Priya said with tears in her eyes.

"I want to see once again in your labcoat." She replied.

Dr. Priya watched as her mentor walked down the stairs leaving her in a state of awe. She slowly walked up to her room and unlocked the door and locked it behind. As she walked towards the table a soft voice calling her name from behind surprised her.

"priyaa"

a young girl in her early 20s called her.

"Bonnie, you always seem to surprise me. Well I have some news to share. I am happy today after so many years. I waited for sense of purpose in this hospital today my prayers are answered. I am going to once work with my mentor and guide Dr Cynthia. I am going to be a doctor once again."

The girl got up from the bed and hugged her.

"I am happy for you."

"I am going to study and give my best." She replied with a zest in her steps.

"Would you leave me and go?" Bonnie asked

"No..Never..why?" Dr. Priya said

"I don't want you to ever change. You promised me you will finish the book all the stories I told you."

"Yes, I will. I am into it. I need to proofread them once again dear." Dr Priya hesitantly replied as she hugged the young girl and brushed her hair.
