Chapter 8 Learning How to Go Grocery Shopping

Mrs. Hunter was loyal and honest. Even if Zack sometimes went out for more than a month, she still kept the place clean and tidy.

Mrs. Hunter only worked for a dozen days this month, but Zack still paid her one month's salary.

He even gave her another thousand yuan and said, "Mrs. Hunter, you have helped me a lot in the last few years, and now you are leaving, I really can't bear it. Your daughter-in-law is about to give birth, so please take this as my gift to your grandson!"

Mrs. Hunter declined for a while. Since Zack insisted on giving it, Mrs. Hunter had to thank him before accepting it.

Once Mrs. Hunter was gone, there would be only Zack and Dorothy in this house. No one would know either they were a couple or what he would do to Dorothy. And no one would interfere with their business.

Mrs. Hunter came downstairs and saw Dorothy standing there in a daze, carrying her clothes and packages.

Mrs. Hunter said, "Come on, Dottie, let's put your luggage down first."

Mrs. Hunter brought Dorothy to her room and said, "We two can live here together these days. I will leave in a few days and this room will be yours. Although there are many rooms here in Zack's house, they are all different for various uses, so we should try to make it easy for him."

"Okay." Dorothy saw that although this room was not as big as the house where she married Zack, it was bigger than her house in the countryside, and the bed was also big.

Next, Mrs. Hunter took Dorothy to the supermarket and taught her how to recognize the way and buy vegetables.

Zack's home was not far from the supermarket, so it was easy to find. Mrs. Hunter mainly taught her how to buy vegetables and how to recognize the freshness of vegetables.

Mrs. Hunter said, "Zack is not picky about food, and he doesn't pay much attention to food. Whatever I fry, he eats. He never complains whether the dishes are good or not. As long as the dishes are cooked and have a good taste, he will be satisfied."

Dorothy thought to herself that it would be fine if he was not picky about food, which meant he was an easy one to serve.

Mrs. Hunter added, "Although Zack doesn't speak a lot, he has a good temper and doesn't complain. He doesn't lose his temper now and then like some rich people. I have been here for a few years and he always talks to me politely. He is really easy to get along with."

Hearing that Mrs. Hunter described Zack as a good-tempered person, Dorothy couldn't understand, because Zack was vicious in her impression.

Ever since she met him, she hardly heard Zack say anything to her nicely.

She couldn't help asking, "Mrs. Hunter, you said he is easy to get along with?"

Mrs. Hunter nodded, "Yes, very easy to be exact. I've been here for so long, but he has never lost his temper. You'll know this after staying here for a while."

"But, Mrs. Hunter," Dorothy couldn't help but ask, "Why do I feel that he looks horrible?"

Mrs. Hunter smiled and said, "That's because you are not familiar with him yet. Although he doesn't talk much, he never loses his temper."

Mrs. Hunter knew in her heart that Zack's attitude towards Dorothy was indeed bad. After all, she could tell that when they got off the car.

However, she thought it might be because Zack was reluctant to leave her, while Dorothy couldn't do anything, so he yelled at her discontentedly.

And once she was aware of how to do things here, Zack's attitude towards her would change.

It was reasonable for Mrs. Hunter to think this way, but if she knew how Dorothy was tortured by Zack later, her mouth might drop open out of surprise!

But that was another story.

Coming back from the street, Mrs. Hunter asked, "Dottie, have you ever used natural gas before?"

Dorothy shook her head, "No, we burn wood for cooking in my place."

Mrs. Hunter said, "Indeed. The rice is with better taste if it is cooked by wood, but we don't have any wood here. Only natural gas can be burned."

While teaching Dorothy how to use natural gas, she said, "If you want to make porridge, use a pressure cooker and cook it on the natural gas boiler. If you make rice, use an electric cooker."

Dorothy looked at the rice cooker and said, "Mrs. Hunter, the rice cooked in this pot is also delicious."

She had never used an electric cooker in the countryside, but she saw it in the White Family that they used this to make rice.

"Yes," Mrs. Hunter replied, "When you make rice in an electric cooker, as long as the ratio of rice to water is right, the rice will taste well. You will know the proper ratio after a few meals."

"Oh." Dorothy felt that there were so many things to learn in this kitchen, and she was already dazzled.

Mrs. Hunter said, "Don't worry, learn to use natural gas first. You must be careful about this. If you don't close it properly, the gas will leak and people will be poisoned after inhalation."

"Okay." Dorothy concentrated on this hurriedly. Under Mrs. Hunter's demonstration, she learned how to turn on and turn off the burner, and how to control the firepower.

The dishes were ready before she got time to learn other skills.

During lunch, the three of them sat at the same table. Dorothy was very cautious, just burying her head to eat the rice. She was even embarrassed if she made any sound when chewing.

Zack had no expression on his face. Except for occasionally speaking to Mrs. Hunter, he barely spoke, and he didn't even look at Dorothy.
