Chapter 7 MISFORTUNE

"You mean because of money, he killed those people. What is this country turning into?" Anita reacted after listening to Uche. She was still laying on the hospital bed.

Uche sat on the side of the bed, while Osas sat on the chair that was close.

Uche gave his own view and added to what Anita raised "Most people get themselves involved in dirty jobs because of the condition of the country, so they don't even mind if they do silly things, some still have the guts to go as far as killing another individual. Ndi onye ohi, onye oshi." Uche spoke with the igbo language (Ndi onye ohi which mean thieves). Anita nods her head after listening to what Uche said, because she actually understood what he said and agrees with him.

Osas then came into the discussion, "Uche, what you have to do is this, I suggest you use another tatics in solving the case, the press most especially shouldn't be aware of our initial plan, make sure you act according to the plan. Decieve them with one more plan, so the actual plan will be going on under ground."

"Yes sir, that's what I'm going to play along with, and I will also need you both to support in anyway you can." Uche told the two Detectives.

Detective Osas smiled and he said with full charisma, "you know I don't leave any case half solved, I make it done. I can't start this case and back out like a coward". Anita then added, "Detective Uche, you've got my support."

After the detectives had a long chat with Anita, Osas and Uche decided to go check with the commissioner at his office.

"Alright Anita, we need to head to the commissioner's office" Uche told her.

Detective Osas and Uche went already in the commissioner office.

"Sir," they both saluted the commissioner who was sitting on his seat. The commissioner responded also with a salute.

"Detective Osas, is good to see you back on your feet" the commissioner said while smiling and reaching out to Osas, his hand for a shake.

"You both can have your seats, over there is the couch, I will come join you". The commissioner signed up the few documents on his table and he walked straight to where Osas and Uche were sitting and sat on a sofa facing their directions.

"So, I want you both to really take this case serious, the Nigeria police can't been seen as a laughing stock, we must use any means to face them to let them know that the law still presides in this country."

The commissioner went on with his statement, "I'm really fed up, they think we the police are jokes and we can't do anything, we should let them know that we also protect lives and properties and punish law breakers, but these people keeps on having it their way, and we shouldn't let it be so again."

The commissioner questioned the detectives, "Are you with me?"

"Sir, yes sir," detective Osas and Uche responded.

The commissioner then directed his full attention to Osas,"Detective Osas, oftentimes I do say you are like Sherlock Holmes in the Adventure Of Sherlock Holmes, you are an outstanding detective, so I want you to use any means to deal with this case fast, let me see you exceptional skills Osas."

"Sir, I will put all my best to it" Osas replied the commissioner immediately.

"Osas, Uche already gave me the feedback that he had already involve the special squad in this case and don't forget these people are trying to use the accident to divert the police attention from the late Alhaji Dansa case, I want you to really investigate the case, what led to his death, for now you won't be on field but you are going to work on a low, when Anita recovers she will join you also, Uche will lead the special squad and they have my permission to do whatever is legal to have the case wrapped up."

Uche then replied very sharp "Thank you sir, I really appreciate, I with the team will not disappoint you."

The commissioner then got up, walked to his table, picked the office phone and he then look at the detectives, "What will you both like to drink?"

"Anything will do sir" they replied sharped. The commissioner then continued his call "Get me one cold glass of water and two glass of orange juice," he then placed the phone down.

"Today's meeting with the commissioner was somehow strange to me" Osas talked while scratching the back of his head as he and Uche were moving.

Detective Uche then stood, turned and looked at Osas "I don't get what you are saying."

"Fine, if my hunch is right, I felt like maybe he had been in our shoes before, so that might be why he is overreacting."

Uche gave a deep breath, he relieved himself, "I thought I was the only one thinking that way, anyways let leave that aside and work on the case."

They both walked into the car, Uche decided to drive since Osas is still injured, "Uche call the special squad I would like to see them." Osas requested.

Now present in a close destination, Osas and Uche came down from the car and walked into a building. The special squad team were present, most of them were undercover officers, but they work In the police force, they were really trained.

"Thank you all for making it here fast, I appreciate your efforts in apprehending criminals, but the job isn't yet complete, as you all know the special squad are known to complete any mission that comes their way fast, but now the people we are facing have much resources and lots of resource persons with information both in and out of the police force."

Osas then walked more further into the space, "I have then decided we will use another dimension to deal with the case, the commissioner has already given us the go ahead to find the law breakers using any legal means, so I want you all to be at alert, don't relent, on the way you might come across bribes but remember the oath you made, we don't have to sell our dignity to anyone, we must protect the weak and innocent."

Everywhere was filled noise, the officers were ready and were showcasing shouts of readiness, Uche then came forward, "If you are with us on this, can I hear a hell yes."

"Hell yes."

"Hell yes."

"Hell yes." The officers were shouting, they were ready, special squad team were know to be gallant.

"Attention everywhere." Osas ordered, the whole team stood on a single ranking file, standing still, without moving a muscle, and Osas then shook hands with them one after the other.

"Stand easy everywhere" Uche gave the order after Osas was done shaking them. Then the two detectives went back outside and entered the vehicle. As they were driving out the close destination area, Uche was on the steering wheel and the walkie-talkie came on, "Detective Uche sir,do you copy?"

"Yes. What's it?, over."

"Sir, there is a terrible incident that just occurred, over."

"Go straight to the point, over." The mention of 'a terrible incident' increased Osas curiousity and the same time, Uche kept his attention to the conversation.

"The mother of Sam the culprit that was apprehended has been killed, forensic said it was 12:46pm today, over."

"What!, am heading towards the crime scene." Osas ordered Uche, "Increase the speed of the car." The conversation ended and Uche increased the speed of the car.

The press were already in the crime scene, Osas and Uche could hear different news they walked into the room where she was killed. The sight of her death was so painful, she was stabbed with a knife directly into her neck and her blood was use to write on the white tiles, 'more people will die, am also waiting for the police to catch me, if they think they are smart.'

"I need the forensic, to find any print of the culprit, and I want the tech guys to be involved in this matter, all the CCTV cameras present here must provide answers and hacked into anything that looks like a camera, it might lead us somewhere."

Detective Osas then came out of the building with Uche they were having some side talks, then a newsman came running to their direction, "Detective Osas, my source tells me you already know the killer, you are just beating around the bush."

When Osas and Uche heard this they stopped and looked at the reporter, all other newsmen heard it and started running towards the direction.

"I must say, the information you got is false and I don't know the killer, thank you all ." Osas then moved away from the reporters and went into the car.

"Sir what was that about?, this press people are really getting on my nerves."

"Uche just chill, I know what to do on this case, I need you to put a tab on that reporter, and ask our people to find out more about the reporter, who he is always meeting."

Sam was in the interrogation room and his eyes was filled with tears and he was handcuffed, the news of the death of his mother really affected him. He is now regretting what he did with his life.

In tears fillled in his eyes rolling down his cheeks. Sam spoke with a shaking voice, " I never thought, I could mess up my life, I brought this misfortune upon myself."

Uche now looked at him, "Sam, you just have to drop the names of people you worked with."

Tears still on his eyes, Sam voice was shaking, he then decided to open up.

"These people are politicians that what to cover up their secrets. I was sent to plan the accident of Alhaji Dansa Faruq, but I didn't carry it out."

"Who did?, how did they cover up the crime without any traces?"

"It was a very simple assignment, he went for a meeting, I planned to follow him till I got an avenue to kill him, which will look like an accident, I plan on doing it on a scene no one would be able to find the culprit. But to my surprise I didn't carry out the plan, it was done by another person."

"You did plan something as terrible as that, so someone else used the plan inorder to make fingers point back at you." Uche told him.

"Uche, that is simple, the person already had a hatred for the deceased and decided to use Sam plans on him. So inorder not to be caught, when investigation is carried out, fingers will be pointed at Sam." Osas added.

Suddenly there was a knock on the door, Officer John opened it and immediately before he could drop the message.

"Sirs, permission."

Osas and Uche then came out, when they noticed the look on his face.

"Sir, there was an attempt on the commissioner's life. And at the same time some hoodlums threw tear gas into our base it affected the ground floor."

"Officer John, contact every detectives present to come straight to the base, and some should detectives and some officers should go straight to the hospital, make sure Detective Anita is safe."

Osas then turn to Uche, " Let's go". They both dashed out and they went straight to the commissioner house.

The security was now times two of it normal standard. The press people were much and this time around they kept on asking some random questions when they sighted Osas and Uche.

"We won't drop any comments now, we will keep you updated soon enough, that's all for now." Uche commented and other police officers made way for them to leave the midst of the press.
