Chapter 3 III

Elly

After my brother leaves with Alpha Jake and Victor, I go to the waterfall. I like the sound of the falling water. It sounds like music to my ears.

I start dancing and try to forget everything that happened yesterday. It hurt to be rejected, but I wasn't in love with Victor. He is seven years older, so we never really talked before.

As I am dancing, I hear a sound and open my eyes. I gasp when I see a vampire. He is tall, around 1,86m (6'1), with black hair and blue eyes. He is gorgeous. But vampires can't be trusted, and I know a lot of situations when vampires killed werewolves.

"Please, don't hurt me," I say as I take a step backward.

"I would never hurt you, Elly," the vampire says.

I gasp. How does he know my name?

"How do you know my name?"

He looks at me with sad eyes.

"You don't remember me?"

I shake my head. I am positive I would have remembered him if I would have met him before.

"It is me, Kain," he says and takes a step towards me.

I take a step back. "Don't come any closer."

"Trust me. I would never harm you. Never!" the vampire says.

But I don't trust him. I take another step back and fall in the water. The next second I find myself lifted in strong arms, looking in a pair of blue eyes.

"Are you alright?" he asks.

I nod. I know I haven't hurt myself.

Kain helps me stand, and I see him adverting his gaze from me, his cheeks going red. It is then that I realize that I am wearing a white t-shirt, and because it is wet, my bra is visible. My cheeks burn with embarrassment. He turns, and I see him taking his t-shirt off.

"W-What are you doing!?" I ask, scared.

"I will give you my t-shirt. You got all wet."

"Oh! Thank you!" even more embarrassed because I assumed the worse.

"I will take a few steps and wait for you to change. Then we can talk," Kain tells me.

When he is a few meters in front of me, I take my t-shirt off and put his on. I smell it, and it smells like rain and forest.

I put my t-shirt on a rock so it can dry.

"You can turn now," I tell him after I make sure everything is covered.

He turns and looks at me. I look at his chest, and I see a lot of muscles. He is very good-looking.

"Eyes up here," he tells me and chuckles.

Damn! He caught me ogling him. I look into his eyes.

"Thank you for the t-shirt. You say I know you, but I don't remember you."

I see that he gets very sad. He points at a tree log that's on the ground.

"Let's take a seat and talk."

I eye him, not knowing if I should trust him.

"If I wanted to harm you, I would have already done it, don't you think?"

I sigh. He does have a point.

I go and sit on the log, and Kain sits next to me. We look at each other.

"Kain, right?" I ask him.

"Yes. You really don't remember me?" he asks me with a sad voice.

I bite my bottom lip and shake my head.

"I had an, um, accident a while ago, and I forgot a lot of things. If we met before, it is possible that I forgot you."

"We meet when you turned eight years old. I was eleven at that time. You and your family spent that summer in Barcelona, and I lived with my mom next to your family's rented apartment."

I shake my head. "I am sorry, I don't remember anything from back then."

Kain falls silent for a long time while he keeps studying my face. He tries to reach for my hand, but I put it in my lap.

"I am sorry, I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable," Kain tells me.

Kain

"It's just that I don't know you," she tells me. "And I don't know if I can trust you."

I haven't come so far just to see her running away in fear because she is close to me. I will be patient. After all, this is the girl I fell in love with ten years ago. If I am patient with her, I am positive I can make her fall in love with me.

I know that relationships between vampires and werewolves are forbidden, but I will do anything to be with her.

"Would you like to get to know me?" I ask her.

"I don't know, Kain. You know that vampires and werewolves can't mix. We are breaking rules as we speak."

I need to convince her to be at least my friend. I know I will be content all my life if she will be my friend.

"I only want to be friends. What do you say?" I ask her.

A strange sound comes from the forest, and I see Elly stand fast and running away.

"Elly? Elly, wait!" I yell after her, trying to stop her.

I sigh. I hope she comes back tomorrow. I will wait as long as it takes. I see she forgot her t-shirt when she ran away like that. I take it and return to the cabin I use in the forest. It is an old cabin that was unused when I found it. I cleaned it and bought food. Vampires also eat human food. We need blood once a week.

I put her t-shirt on top of a chair and I lay in bed and think of Elly. She is so beautiful. I never imagined that she would grow up into such a beautiful young woman.

I wonder how can I convince her to be my friend. I put my hand under my pillow and take out the only photo I have of her, from when she was eight. In the photo, she is hugging me, and we both look at the camera, smiling.

After a while, I put the photo back under the pillow and take out a seashell she gave me on the last day I saw her. I put it on my ear and listen to the ocean, remembering long summer afternoons on the beach.
