Chapter 6 Hope

Wilson spent the entire day reclining on his chair with a faraway look on his face. He didn't move, not even once.

As the sun began to set, the magnificent red and orange light shone in through the large French windows, bathing his office in all manners of stunning hues.

Someone pushed his office door open. Wilson blandly flicked his gaze towards the sound and watched as Nova walked in. Nova knew that Wilson was waiting for him. He'd come to give his report as soon as he'd gotten the news.

He walked right up to Wilson's desk and stood staring down at him. He didn't speak for a while. He didn't know how to phrase what he was going to say, and he had even less of an idea how Wilson would react when he told him the details.

His muscular body blocked the sun filtering in through the windows, throwing a shadow over half of the desk and Wilson. The sudden shift to darkness dragged Wilson back to his senses. He slowly blinked his eyes to refocus them, then allowed a charming smile to creep over his features.

"So soon?" Wilson raised his eyebrows. Since Nova had come to his office, it must mean he'd found something out about the girl.

Nova drew a breath then hesitated. He swallowed nervously then said, "Yes. I've sent some people to investigate. They said-"

"Said what?" Wilson said in a snappy manner. He pulled himself up to sit straight and finally shook off the sleepy haze he'd been in the entire day.

"The woman's name is Isabel Lan. The boy is assumed to be her brother. We are still looking into their place of residence but..." Nova lowered his eyes to the ground. The faint smile that he always wore was gone, to be replaced by a small frown.

"But what?" Wilson said impatiently. "When did you start becoming so hesitant? Is she in a bad situation? Just tell me. I can handle whatever it is. If she were some socialite or a lady from a rich family, she wouldn't have been so pure and humble. She wouldn't seem like she was from a totally different world." Another smile pricked the corners of Wilson's mouth.

"Wilson, you know better than anyone that things aren't always what they seem!" Nova said hurriedly. "Isabel is... Isabel is actually one of the most famous girl in the biggest nightclub in the town!"

Wilson felt as though someone had just punctured his heart. Nova's words were enough to make him break out in a cold sweat. He gripped the photo of Isabel fiercely. He wanted to crumple it up and throw it away, but he just couldn't bring himself to.

"There has to be some kind of mistake," Wilson said in disbelief. He gave a mocking smile, but there was still some type of hope in his words. Hope that the news wasn't real.

"No. There isn't. Almost everyone in that town knows who she is. And they're all looking forward to having their special time with her..." Nova immediately stopped talking when he saw the dangerous look on Wilson's face.

Wilson's fingers had involuntarily crumpled the photo into a small ball. He released a breath, then slowly opened his hand and let the photo fall to the ground. That perfect dream, that perfect image of her that he'd held in his heart for two years had been shattered. A dream that had been torn to pieces without any hope of restoration.

But it was a dream that he had crafted by, and for, himself. Isabel probably had forgot who he was.

Wilson quickly regained his usual cold composure and stood. The playful, charming light in his eyes had dimmed to a cold sheen.

"Nova, do you think tonight is going to be a little more interesting?" Wilson sneered as he stepped around his desk and walked out.

"Yes, boss..." Nova said as he followed Wilson out the office. "Where are you going?"

"To a nightclub. I want to see how a nightclub in a small, remote town differs from that in the city." Wilson waited patiently for the elevator to arrive. Once the doors slid open, he stepped elegantly inside. Nova quickly stepped into the elevator beside him.

It wasn't long until the two of them were in the fancy black Lamborghini, racing down the highway towards that small remote town that now held Wilson transfixed.
