Chapter 7 She Was Fired

Alice was wearing a plain white T-shirt and a pair of faded old jeans. Her outfit outlined her slender and curvy figure. She didn't wear any makeup, but her delicate face still looked so attractive. Her smooth skin was fair and tender.

"The seniors of the headquarters will come to conduct an inspection in an hour. Go and set up the meeting room. Then go with me to welcome them."

"Yes, sir. I will do my best," Alice replied. There was a trace of excitement in her eyes.

"Good. I always believe in your capability." The manager patted her on the shoulder. His hand lingered on her shoulder for a long time as if unwilling to let her go.

"Thank you for your appreciation, sir. I'll go back to my work now." His hand that kept rubbing her shoulder made Alice felt uncomfortable. So she dodged and rushed towards the meeting room.

Watching her receding back, he stood still, feeling unsatisfied. He couldn't take his eyes off her.

Alice's colleagues saw everything, and they exchanged glances full of envy and hatred. The opportunity to welcome the seniors of the headquarters with the manager was something that other ordinary employees yearned for.

Alice breathed a sigh of relief when she entered the empty meeting room.

She was pressed for time, so she didn't allow herself to think too much and started to arrange everything inside.

Tea, flowers, fruits, boxes of tissue-she quickly placed all the necessary things in their right places.

At this moment, the door of the meeting room was pushed open from the outside.

Alice saw Aylin strode in, wearing her high school uniform and earphones.

"What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be in school right now?" Alice put down the fruit in her hands and looked at Aylin in confusion.

Aylin walked straight to her and reached out her hand. "Give me some money. I need to buy some materials for my tutorial class."

Aylin was asking for money again!

She had just given Mary her salary last night, hadn't she?

"How much are those materials?" Alice subconsciously touched the wallet in her pocket. The money that was left in her was only enough for her one-week expenses.

Aylin fiddled with the cord of her earphones and replied casually, "Not much. Only five thousand."

"Five thousand? What kinds of materials are those? Why so expensive?" Alice frowned. "I'll call your school and ask if that is true."

It wasn't that she didn't want to buy the materials that Aylin needed. But Aylin had so many shortcomings that she couldn't just trust Aylin easily anymore. Aylin had asked for money from Alice several times, using her studies as an excuse. But the truth was, she only bought outrageous things that were totally useless and expensive.

"What do you mean? How stingy! If you don't want to give me money, just say it. You don't have to frame me," Aylin said as she grabbed Alice's hand that was about to make a phone call and pressed it down on the table. Guilt flashed through her eyes.

Actually, she didn't really need school materials. The truth was, she only wanted to buy a new iPhone. If Alice called her school, her teacher would find out, and she would be scolded.

"It's not that I don't trust you. I just..." Alice explained with a frown when she felt the pain in her wrist that was grabbed by Aylin.

"Then give me the money now. Otherwise, I'll go back home and tell Dad that you don't want to buy me the materials." Aylin let go of Alice's hand, quickly took out Alice's wallet, and got the money by herself.

"Aylin, stop that! How can you do this?" Alice snapped. What Aylin did was no different from robbing.

Alice was so angry that she raised her hand and was about to snatch her wallet back.

But she was petite and slender, while Aylin was taller and plump. Obviously, Aylin was stronger.

Aylin pushed her hard, and Alice bumped into the table. The fruits on the table fell to the floor.

Aylin was also shocked. But the money inside Alice's wallet stunned her even more. She stared at the few banknotes in the wallet, which were probably only a few dozen dollars. She was dumbfounded.

"Are you really this poor? You don't even have a hundred dollar banknote in your wallet!" Aylin didn't give up and continued to rummage Alice's wallet. Then two coins fell down.

Since her voice was sharp and loud, Alice's coworkers outside the meeting room heard what she said, and they burst into laughter. None of them came in to help Alice.

Knowing that she was running out of time, Alice ignored Aylin and hurriedly cleaned up the messy meeting room. It was almost eight o'clock in the morning. The seniors of the headquarters were about to arrive soon.

"Oh, this is so annoying! How can I have such a useless sister like you?" Now that Aylin found out how poor Alice was, her dream of having a brand new phone turned into a fantasy.

She raised her feet and kicked several chairs angrily, threw Alice's wallet away, and left.

"This way, please."

Alice was bending over and picking up the fruits under the conference table when the manager's flattering voice came through. It was then followed by a group of people in their high-end suits and shoes entering the meeting room.

Everyone was stunned when they saw the scene inside the meeting room. The fruits were scattered on the floor, and the chairs were all in a mess.

The manager's face darkened at once. He gritted his teeth and growled, "Alice?"

"Sir, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to..." Holding two apples in her hands, Alice came out from under the conference table, looking very nervous.

Why did they arrive so soon?

The manager told her that the seniors of the headquarters would come in an hour. But only less than half an hour had passed. Why were they here now?

"Is this how you take the inspection from the headquarters?" The middle-aged man who seemed to be the leader of the group obviously misunderstood the situation. "You won't be able to move to the headquarters. Let's go!"

"Sir, it's not like that. Please, listen to me. Let me explain." The manager was so anxious that beads of sweat stood out on his forehead. No matter how hard he tried to explain, it was useless.

All the people who came to inspect their branch had left in less than a minute.

"Alice!" The manager shivered with anger. He pointed at Alice's nose and yelled, "Look at what you've done! I tried every possible means just to get this opportunity. But what did you do? You ruined everything in less than two minutes!"

"Sir, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it. I didn't know that they would arrive ahead of time."

Since things had been messed up, Alice had no other choice but to apologize again and again.

"What's the use of your apologies? If it weren't for your pretty face, I wouldn't even have hired you!" The manager roared with his saliva sprayed into the air.

"Sir, I'm so sorry. Please give me another chance. I'll explain everything to them. I'll get them back." The door of the meeting room was wide open, so the manager's relentless scolding drew the attention of Alice's coworkers.

Regardless of her pale face and disarray hair, Alice continued to beg desperately.

"Get them back?" The manager smiled bitterly, grabbed her collar fiercely, and yelled furiously, "They are heading straight to the airport. Do you think you can fly and catch up with them? You're nothing but a fool with big breasts and no brain!"

As soon as he finished his words, he shook her off, causing Alice to fall to the floor.

Her knees hit the floor, and a large piece of skin was scraped.

Bright red blood oozed out in an instant.

"Get out of here! You are fired!" he yelled coldly and left. Alice felt like she was falling into an ice cellar.
