Chapter 4 Expecting The Child

"Dad..." As soon as Alice saw her father, all the grievances and fears that had accumulated in her heart burst out. He was the only man who loved her since she was a child. Bitterness surged up from the bottom of her heart as her eyes welled up.

"What happened to my Alice? Did someone bully you in school?" Edgar asked as he sat up from the bed with his skinny arms.

"No, Dad. No one bullied me." Alice hurriedly wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes and gave Edgar a bright smile.

She couldn't let her family know what she did. Her father loved her so much and cared a lot about his reputation. He wouldn't be able to bear it if he found out.

Edgar held her cold hand with his big rough hand and sighed. With sadness in his eyes, he said, "I want to throw a big party on your eighteenth birthday and invite all of our relatives and friends. Alas, I can't do it now. But I still want to give you a birthday present. So I'll ask Mary to take you to the jewelry store to buy a piece of decent jewelry later."

"Dad, I don't want any jewelry. I just want you to recover as soon as possible. Don't worry about me, okay?"

Alice had already forgotten that today was her eighteenth birthday. This year, she gave herself a birthday gift, something that she would never forget for the rest of her life.

She rushed to her father's bed and burst into tears in his arms.

Memories of what happened inside that cold and luxurious suite were still vivid in her mind.

That strange man with cold and indifferent eyes had sex with her mercilessly. His voice was low, cold, and domineering.

"Why are you crying? Dad isn't dead yet." An arrogant voice came through as soon as the door of the ward was pushed open from the outside.

Then a girl in a red shirt with a backpack came in.

She had a beautiful face like Mary.

"Aylin..." Alice raised her tearful face and choked up.

"Dad, my birthday is coming. Didn't you promise to invite my classmates to the party? You haven't even given me the money for the party yet." Aylin Luo was Alice's sister. She was four years younger than Alice. As she spoke, she glanced at Alice disdainfully and put her backpack on the bedside table.

"Don't worry. Your dad won't go back on his promise." What Mary feared the most was that Aylin would get angry. So she quickly took out a stack of cash from her wallet and handed it to Aylin.

"Thank you, Mom. I'm going to treat my classmates to dinner." Aylin put on a bright smile at once while putting the money into her backpack.

"That money is for Alice's birthday gift!" Edgar couldn't help but look at Mary reproachfully when he saw what she did.

"Edgar, how can you be so heartless? I am working hard to take care of you and your daughter. If you can't find any good thing to say, stop complaining. Remember that if it weren't for your failure in handling your business, I wouldn't have haggled over a few thousands of dollars." Upon hearing Mary's shrill voice, Edgar could only sigh helplessly. Alice's ears had been numb after hearing her stepmother's complaints nonstop.

She silently tucked Edgar's cold hand into the quilt, stood up, and walked out of the ward, letting the tears on her face dry as time passed.

When she passed by the office of Edgar's attending physician, she clenched her fists. She paused for a moment, blinked her bright eyes, and smiled, pretending to be relaxed.

A few months from now, everything would be back to normal.

Two weeks later, Alice went to the designated hospital with the middle-aged woman who was in charge of her.

She was wearing a white dress that outlined her beautiful figure, and her thick black hair was tied into a neat ponytail. Youthfulness permeated her delicate and elegant facial features, and her temperament was clean and tranquil.

Many people were going back and forth in the hospital hallway. Alice stood in a remote corner. Her fingers were trembling, and her face turned pale.

Everything was like a dream. She didn't expect that she would really get pregnant after having sex with that man only once.

Her slender fingers subconsciously slid across her abdomen, and she was in a trance for a moment. Was there really a little life inside her now?

Alice turned to the middle-aged woman. "When can I get the money?" she asked with her lips trembling.

The guilt in her heart was like a black wave, overwhelming her. She quickly removed her hand from her belly as if it was pricked by a needle. Her throat was so dry that she could hardly speak.

"The advance payment has been sent to the hospital. Once the child is born, the remaining balance will be transferred to your account," said the middle-aged woman in a disdainful tone. She then put away the pregnancy test result carefully and smiled coldly.

"Where am I?" When she felt that the black cloth covering her eyes was removed, Alice turned and looked around.

Then she found out that she was in a spacious room that was luxuriously decorated.

The most advanced medical equipment was operating, showing all kinds of data. Switches were flashing with blue and red lights. Several doctors helped her up without saying anything and carried out another round of tests.

"This is the Lan family's villa," answered the woman who removed her blindfold indifferently.

'Where is this villa located?'

Alice was distraught. But she still allowed a doctor to check her belly using an unknown high-end instrument.

She remembered that after leaving the hospital, the middle-aged woman took her into a car, blindfolded her, and brought her here.

"Can I call my family?" Every afternoon, she would take time to go to the hospital to take care of Edgar. If she suddenly disappeared, he would definitely worry.

"No. You must live in the house for nine months until the baby is born. During this period, you cannot leave or contact anyone," the woman replied indifferently.

After that, she didn't say anything more no matter what Alice asked.

No one seemed to care about how anxious Alice was.

After the examinations, the woman took her out and let her rest in a more luxurious and comfortable room.

Nine months had quickly passed.

The atmosphere was so tense inside the luxurious delivery room.

"Arghhh!" Alice was lying on the bed, and her delicate face was covered by beads of sweat. Her fair little hands clutched the white sheet so tightly that it ripped.

"Don't panic. Follow my rhythm and take a deep breath. Now exhale..." said Selina, the female doctor who was responsible for her giving birth.

"It hurts..." With every breath she took, Alice felt like her body was about to break. She gritted her teeth and groaned in pain.

Her face was deathly pale, and her clothes were all wet with sweat now.

Never had she thought that giving birth to a child was this painful.

"I can see the baby's head now. Come on! Push it again," Selina exclaimed happily while observing Alice's condition.

"Ahhh!" Alice couldn't help crying out when she felt another piercing pain.

Her nine months of pregnancy was not a joyful process at all. At first, she felt guilty and uneasy. Then later, she had developed quite an affection for her baby. And it made her look forward to seeing her baby come out.
