Chapter 2 An Indifferent Man

"I'm over eighteen." Although Alice's vision was impaired by the dim light, she could see that a man was approaching her and casting her a sharp gaze. She trembled slightly and clasped her hands together with discomfort.

Like a prey hunted by a predator, she felt weak all over. All she could do was watch in horror and anticipate the final blow to come.

The following moment, the man's frigid aura inched closer, and his cold hand reached for her delicate chin.

"Ah!" She yelped in fear, wanting to resist.

There was no annoying lipstick on her lips and the touch of her lips felt good to him. His cold gaze finally relaxed a little.

"You're barely qualified." His breath sprayed harsh words into her ears. His deep, mellow voice sounded elegant and pleasant, but his manner of speaking was heartless.

In order to refuse the arranged marriage and fulfill his mother's wish to have a grandson, he had chosen one from hundreds of pure women to get pregnant with his child at the price of three million dollars. The woman before him was the only one who barely reached his almost unrealistic standards.

The skin of his fingers felt rough, and his merciless strength made her weak. Being examined like a commodity humiliated her further. With widened eyes, Alice tried to see his face in the darkness.

Timidity, nervousness, panic, and uneasiness filled her eyes altogether.

Her eyes made her emotions apparent, barely doing anything to hide them. She was just an inexperienced, simple, and innocent girl. A flash of satisfaction glinted in the man's deep eyes. However, the following second, his eyes returned to its original coldness. To him, she was nothing but a tool.

Over the past eighteen years of her life, she had never gotten this close to an adult man.

"Wait, please don't..." Alice begged. The color on her face was starting to fade and she wanted to break away from him. The feeling of shame and panic almost broke through her thin chest, and she was pressed out of breath.

The only things she felt right now were fear and regret. She wanted to escape so badly. She hadn't even held a boy's hand before. But now that she was faced with an intimidating man, all the courage she had gathered on her way here evaporated like morning dew under the sun.

"No? You've already signed the contract and received the money. Don't you think it's too late to refuse?" The man staring at her looked like he had heard a funny joke as he pursed his lips. His rough hand grasped her jaw, forcing her to raise her delicate chin and look at him. His lofty eyes made her shiver.

It was as if he felt pity and disdain for her.

The sound of his voice penetrated her eardrums, and his harsh words reached the bottom of her heart, making her body as stiff as a boulder.

This man appeared to have a terrible temper. Every passing second, the cold aura he exuded became more intense. The next second, she felt a pain on her shoulder.

The sound of tearing cloth resounded in the quiet room.

Regret and pain burst from her heart. Tears slipped through the corners of her eyes, and huge droplets fell into the pillow.

All of a sudden, he felt a chill on his neck.

He squinted his eyes, only to find out that she was leaning against his shoulder, and that her beautiful face was drenched with tears.

His stone cold heart felt an imperceptible sensation out of the blue.

All his life, he had been indifferent to women. But now, it seemed that his frozen heart was touched by some unknown emotion, like a feather falling on the cold hard ground.
