Chapter 10 The Willful Boy

"Mommy, I'm hungry. Go and cook for me," Hiram said in a childish voice. A trace of shyness flashed across his calm eyes.

The word "mommy" was like a flash of lightning that struck Alice's heart.

She couldn't help trembling all over, and her lips curved into a helpless wry smile. She had conceived a child, but she didn't even get the chance to see the baby she painstakingly gave birth to.

And now, she was going to be a mother to someone else's child.

"Okay. What do you want to eat?" she asked as she took a deep breath and rubbed her red eyes.

"I want steak, chicken rolls..." Hiram started to enumerate the name of his favorite dishes with his fingers.

However, he didn't expect that Alice would interrupt him. She said in a soft voice, "It's not good for you to eat greasy food early in the morning. You don't want to become a fat man in the future, do you?"

"But I am the boss here, so you must listen to me. I'll give you half an hour. Make sure that they will all be ready at the table by that time." Hiram had always been self-centered. Only his father could make him bow his head. How could he listen to Alice?

After saying those words, he stormed out of the bedroom with his hands clasped behind his back.

The servant who took care of Hiram had been following Alice closely. From time to time, she would give Alice a stare.

Upon seeing that Alice was still stood rooted to the spot, she couldn't help reminding, "If Hiram doesn't see all the dishes he wants to eat on the table in half an hour, he will get angry."

The servant's voice brought Alice back to her senses.

She was hired to play the role of Hiram's mother. Thinking about this job, she didn't know whether to laugh or to cry. Her main responsibility was to take good care of Hiram like her real son, and she was very aware of it.

"I understand. Where is the kitchen?"

When the servant heard Alice's question, the expression on her face relaxed. She breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly led Alice to the kitchen.

In the past few years, no matter how busy Alice was at work, she spared some time to learn how to cook delicious meals and snacks that children liked.

So preparing breakfast for Hiram wouldn't be a difficult task for her.

"Miss Luo, Hiram doesn't like carrots," the servant reminded Alice, afraid that Hiram might get irritated. She was standing beside Alice and staring at her without blinking.

"He also hates lettuce.

Don't put green pepper in his food."

It seemed that almost all of the vegetables in the kitchen couldn't be prepared for Hiram. Alice put down the lettuce in her hands, turned around, and looked at the servant.

"Is my job here a mother or a nanny?" It really sounded ridiculous to talk about being hired by a child. "Hiram doesn't have a mother, but he must have a father, right? Can I talk to his father?"

"I'm sorry, Miss Luo, but Mr. Lan is not at home." The expression in the servant's eyes changed as she subconsciously looked at Alice's face that had no makeup at all.

"How about you call him? Is it possible?" Alice asked. She regretted signing that contract.

"I don't have a phone. Miss Luo, you'd better cook according to Hiram's orders. You're running out of time now." The servant obviously didn't care about how Alice felt. Taking a look at the time, she urged Alice to start preparing the dishes. She must really be afraid of Hiram's anger.

Alice had no choice but to prepare the dishes that Hiram had ordered. But in the end, she added lots of "forbidden" ingredients to make a healthy diet, regardless of the servant's dissuasion.

As expected, Hiram showed up in the dining room half an hour later.

A snow-white tablecloth spread over the two-meter-long dining table. And as the dishes with bright colors were presented one by one on the table, a pleasant aroma filled the air.

As a new special employee, Alice naturally waited aside with the servants.

Hiram sat at the table. His gaze swept the dishes on the table, and he frowned. He then looked at Alice and asked, "Why are there lettuce and green pepper in the food? And carrots too. Didn't the servant tell you that I don't like these vegetables?"

When Alice met Hiram's bright eyes, her heart skipped a beat. But she was a 23-year-old adult. How could she allow a five-year-old child to scare her?

"Eating too much meat in the morning is not good for your health, so I added some vegetables even without your permission," Alice answered as she stepped forward, ignoring the servant's warning look.

"Throw them all and cook again," Hiram commanded coldly.

"I am your mommy now. You can't just order me like a servant." The truth was, Alice deliberately went against Hiram's orders. She hoped that by doing it, he would lose his temper and terminate the contract.

Hiram was stunned for a moment. Perhaps he realized that what she said made sense. The frown on his face gradually vanished.

"Even if you are my mommy, you can't force me into eating food I don't like." Hiram was so smart that Alice didn't know how to reply.

"No matter what happens, you should make me happy. You can't force me into doing things I don't like. A mother who dotes on her children should always be like that, right?" Hiram said arrogantly and was about to leave the dining room.

"Then these dishes will go to waste. Wasting food is as shameful as corruption." When Alice saw the servant taking away the dishes she had carefully prepared and pouring them into the trash can, she was so sad that her eyes turned red.

"Mommy, you're so long-winded." Hiram, who was wearing a mini suit, folded his little arms across his chest. "If all rich people in the world think like you, the farmers will definitely cry. Don't you know that the more rich people waste, the greater the demand will be? Then products can circulate in the market. Our wasting actually helps farmers make more money. I'm doing my best to contribute to the society and to the economy."

Hiram's arrogant words confused Alice. She couldn't help asking, "Should I praise you then?"

"Yes, of course!" Hiram smiled triumphantly and elegantly. "Because my waste is enough to raise the GDP."

Alice was stunned. She had never met such a serious and unreasonable child.

From whoever did he inherit such distorted views in life, she wanted to scold that person.

As her gaze swept the dining room, she saw that the servants and the butler around all had a look of indulgence, worship, and obsession. It was as if they were saying, "Hiram is so smart. He is always right."

But still, Alice insisted that the dishes should stay on the table instead of throwing them into the trash can.

Then ten minutes later, under the servants' shocked and anxious gaze, Alice ate up all the food.

She let out a satisfied burp. Wiping her greasy lips, she looked up at the servant who had been following her all the time and said, "Well, is Hiram always this... willful?" She wanted to say extravagant, arrogant, and unreasonable. But she didn't want to sound harsh, so she racked her brains to come up with a less pessimistic word. And her vocabulary bank allowed her to use "willful."
