Chapter 7 A Bad-tempered CEO

In order to improve her work efficiency, Marina made a copy of the documents in advance. She didn't want to be called an idiot again. She had had enough of hearing that. Mike already called her "silly Mommy" at home.

As soon as she was done making the copy of the documents, Michael called her in and asked her to buy lunch for him from downstairs. Marina was a secretary, so she took orders from her boss. She asked politely, "Mr. Michael, what would you like to eat?"

"It doesn't matter, just buy something. Remember to make a copy of the documents for this afternoon's meeting." After that, Michael continued to bury himself in his work.

Marina had already made a copy of the documents, so she went downstairs to buy him lunch. She planned to take care of everything ahead of time. Otherwise, such a bad-tempered CEO would scold her indiscriminately.

When she stepped onto the first floor, she saw a restaurant. She had only eaten a few slices of bread this morning, so her stomach growled. The restaurant was already crowded, with many people waiting in line to buy food. Most of them were employees of the company.

Marina walked in and joined the queue. After waiting for a while, it was finally her turn to order. Seeing that most of the items on the menu were already sold out, she bought some sushi. Then, after thinking about what Michael had said, she ordered a few other items as well. After all, she didn't know what he liked to eat. Then, she also bought a cup of black coffee.

When she arrived at the president's office, Marina handed the restaurant bag to Michael and said, "Mr. Michael, I've gotten you lunch and black coffee. If there is nothing else, I'll get back to work."

'Black coffee?' Michael frowned. He didn't like to drink black coffee at noon. He usually drank it around three o'clock in the afternoon.

So, he stopped Marina when she was about to leave and asked, "When did I ask you for black coffee? Didn't my assistant tell you that I usually have coffee at around three o'clock?"

Marina was taken aback. She hadn't expected Michael to be as disciplined as her son. She immediately remembered what Mike always said: "Silly Mommy, if you haven't made a plan, you are already behind others. You have to get into a routine." 'Why am I thinking of that now?' she wondered.

"Mr. Michael, it's my fault. I thought you would have coffee earlier," she said, bowing her head in apology.

"You are such an idiot. How did the HR department select you to be my secretary?" Michael asked, glaring at her.

'An idiot? That's the second time he has yelled at me today! If he scolds me again, I won't stand for it.' Marina decided. She said apologetically, "Mr. Michael, I'm sorry. I'll remember it next time."

"Fine. Go ahead with your work. Also, there is a ball tonight. Since Tricia is not here, you have to accompany me there."

'Huh? ' Marina widened her eyes in surprise. 'A ball? Oh my God! If I go to a ball, I'll have to wear a nice gown and some make-up. Then he'll find out what I really look like!'

"Well, Mr. Michael, I don't think I can. My parents want me to have dinner with them tonight, so I'm afraid I can't accompany you."

Hearing Marina's words, a strange smile appeared on Michael's face. "You are such an idiot. Were you thinking about what you would wear if you went to the ball with me? You are so old-fashioned! Do you think I'm taking you there as my plus-one?" he asked mockingly.

'Is he judging me? Well, it doesn't matter. I don't want to dress up. It's not that everyone in the world will think I'm pretty, but I'm not bad-looking.'

"Do I really not need to wear a gown?" Marina asked tentatively.

"Do you think you'll look good in a gown?" Michael asked coldly. Then, he looked at her up and down. 'Although she's wearing a pair of glasses that covers her face, she has a good figure. But her face is really ugly.'

Marina could guess what he was thinking, and she felt a little offended. However, she still remembered the bet she had made with Mike.

"Mr. Michael, is there anything I can do for that?" she asked, clearing her throat.

"You just need to prepare a document. You'd better come to the ball in your business suit," Michael ordered, turning back to his work.

"Well, I'll go to prepare the document first." Marina bowed and walked away.

It was only after leaving his sight that she finally felt at ease. 'Why does Michael keep scolding me? How am I stupid? But he seems to be very similar to Mike. They are both bad-tempered, but at least Mike's cute. Michael always has the same poker face.'

After Marina left his office, Michael suddenly smiled to himself. 'This secretary is actually very funny. She really does look like an idiot. And why does she cover her whole face with those huge glasses? What does her face really look like?'

Marina had been sitting at her desk for less than a minute when Michael called her again. She didn't know why, but she quickly hurried to his office.

When she stood in front of him, she saw the sushi on his desk. Then Michael asked, "Are you an idiot? I don't like sushi. Why did you buy it for me?"

'How am I supposed to know what he likes to eat? This is the third time he has called me an idiot today!' For Marina, this was the last straw. Fury flooded her. She looked at him, wishing she could grab his tie and ask him a few biting words. But she just patted the table and said, "Mr. Michael, you've gone too far. I'm your secretary, not your maid. It's not my responsibility to know your dietary habits."

'Well, this woman has a bad temper. But why do I find her cute? It's the first time that someone has ever yelled at me,' Michael thought.

"Are you thinking of quitting? Do you know how many people want this job?" he asked curtly.

Marina couldn't stand it anymore. 'If so many people want this job, it won't matter if I quit, right?'

"Well, Mr. Michael, you can fire me. What you need is a maid, not a secretary."

After saying that, she stormed out and slammed the door behind her. 'At the worst, I'll lose to Mike in the bet we made. It seems that my son really knows me best. I used to quit my job in less than three months. But today, I quit on the first day! Well, I can't help it. No one has made me this angry before. This CEO has a bad temper, but I'm not afraid of him.'

Michael kept looking at the door, thinking that Marina would come back and beg for him to hire her again, but she didn't. 'She's the first one to talk back to me, and she's not even worried about getting fired. Well, I won't give her what she wants.'

After leaving the company, Marina checked the time and went to see Mike. Since she hadn't taken him to the amusement park yesterday, she wanted to take him there today. 'That CEO is really bad-tempered! I don't know how Tricia puts up with him,' she grumbled to herself as she walked.

Mike found it odd that his mother was coming to see him at this time of the day. 'Shouldn't she be at work now? Why does she look so sad? Was she bullied? Mommy is so stupid.'

"Mommy, are you playing hooky at work? Why are you here?" he asked in confusion.

Marina looked at him and sighed. "Mike, you guessed right. My boss called me an idiot three times today. I'm going to lose my job. How are you going to cheer me up?"

As Mike looked at his sad mother, he felt a little annoyed. He wanted to find the one who had called his mother an idiot. 'I'm the only one who can call my mommy an idiot!'
