Chapter 8 Resignation Part One

... ...

...

Seeing that his mother had come empty-handed, Mike asked, "Mommy, where is your bag? Didn't you take a bag with you when you went to work today? Where is it?"

Marina had been so angry just now that she had forgotten her bag in the office. She didn't want to see Michael again today, but she still wanted to take her bag back. After thinking for a while, she decided to fetch her bag from the office tomorrow. She could also submit her resignation letter then.

"Silly Mommy, did you forget it again? You are always so careless," Mike said, shaking his head.

'How could Mike say that to me? I've already been scolded three times today. I don't want to be scolded again,' Marina thought sourly. She pinched her son's face and said, "Just call me 'Mommy.' Don't call me 'silly Mommy.' You're just a little boy. How can you say I'm stupid?"

"But Mommy is really stupid. You don't even know functions in high school math. You're so stupid," Mike said in a matter-of-fact tone.

But Marina was taken aback to hear that. 'I haven't been paying much attention to him recently. I can't believe he already knows about functions. He's such a fast learner. What does he think about every day? Einstein was a genius from a young age. Could my son be as smart as he was?'

"Are you trying to make me angry? If I lose my temper and give you away one day, don't regret it and cry like a baby," she said in a huff.

"Well, silly Mommy, you won't give me away. I know you love me the most," Mike said, beaming.

Marina was speechless. She was already in a bad mood, so she didn't want to snap unnecessarily at her son. She felt irritated at the thought of having to face that bad-tempered CEO tomorrow.

At the same time, Michael was walking to the secretary's office with a frown. It seemed that he would have a lot more work today, because his secretary had abandoned him without warning. The documents that Marina had made copies of were still on her desk. When Michael walked in and saw the documents he needed for that afternoon, he was surprised. He hadn't expected Marina to be so efficient. 'Was I out of line just now?'

As he picked up the documents on the desk, he saw a bag on the chair. 'She was so angry just now. She must have forgotten to take her bag.'

All of a sudden, the phone in Marina's bag rang, so Michael leaned over and picked it up. As soon as he answered the phone, he heard a woman's voice.

"Marina, where are you? You didn't answer the phone for so long."

Michael said coldly, "I'm sorry. My secretary left in a hurry, and she left her bag here. If you need to talk to her, call her tomorrow."

After saying that, he rudely hung up the phone. 'Marina's a real hothead. Well, I won't allow her to quit just because she said she wants to.'

Meanwhile, when Marina and Mike got home, Mike apologized for what he had said earlier that day. Seeing that his mother was still unhappy, he further said, "Mommy, I think we can forget our bet. I was just kidding. You've worked for more than two months at many companies, remember? This time, it seems that you really can't stand your new job. In that case, you can resign tomorrow, Mommy."

"Aren't you disappointed in me?" Marina asked, frowning.

"Mommy, what are you talking about? Maybe this job is not suitable for you. You can still work as a secretary in another company," Mike pointed out.

On his first day of school, he had met many children who wanted to be friends with him. But he had kept a distance from them because he thought that they were too naive. There was one particular girl in class who had gotten laughed at today for not having a father. Of course, Mike sympathized with her. He hated how the other kids teased her. After all, it was not her fault that she didn't have a father. At the same time, Mike felt very lucky and happy. Even though he didn't have a father, he still had a mother who loved him to the moon and back.

"Mike, what happened at school today?" Marina finally asked.

"Mommy, why do children always like to bully the ones who don't have a father?" Mike asked with a thoughtful look on his face.

Marina's face immediately changed. "Did someone bully you at school? Tell me who it was."

"Mommy, I didn't get bullied. In my class, there's a little girl without a father, and she got picked on today. But I helped her out and told the other children not to bully her anymore," Mike explained patiently.

'Children? Why does he call them that? He's also a child. Mike and that bad-tempered CEO are so alike. Could Michael really be Mike's father? Well, if that's the case, I want Michael to know that he has a five-year-old child. But he's a jerk, so Mike will only be with me,' Marina thought to herself.

That night, Marina's parents didn't come home for dinner because they had something to attend to. Therefore, Marina and Mike just ate instant noodles. Marina felt annoyed when she thought of having to face Michael tomorrow.

Every night, she would go to bed feeling lonely. Just like everyone, she wanted someone to love her too. She had lost her virginity when she was eighteen, but it hadn't been a romantic affair at all. She really wished she could have experienced a normal relationship like others. However, Mike's arrival had completely changed her life. Marina was happy to have him around.

The next morning, Marina went to M Group early to get her bag back. It was still deathly quiet on the twenty-eighth floor. As she pushed the door open, she wondered why Michael hadn't arrived yet.

When she arrived at the secretary's office, she found that her bag was in the same place she had left it in, but the door was locked. She didn't have the key, so she had to wait for someone to come here.

It was half past eight when Michael finally walked into his office. Seeing Marina already sitting there on the sofa, he smiled slightly. 'She got here before me.'

"Miss Mu, you deserve some credit today. You are the first person to come to the office this morning. You left the company in a huff yesterday. Are you feeling better now?"

"Mr. Michael, I came here today to submit my resignation letter. And can you open the door of the secretary's office? My bag is still inside. I'll leave after I take it. I'll be much happier if I don't have to hear you call me an idiot anymore," Marina said indifferently. Her lips curved up into a gentle smile. Just the thought of having nothing to do with Michael anymore put her in a good mood.

Seeing that Marina was smiling, Michael smiled too. "Miss Mu, are you sure you want to quit?"

Marina scoffed and asked, "If your boss calls you an idiot every day, will you continue to work for him?"

"Is that the only reason you're quitting? But you really are an idiot. Don't you know that? As my secretary, you have to help me arrange my schedule. In addition, you have to be my mistress."

'Mistress? Why would he want me to be his mistress?' Hearing his words, Marina became scared all of a sudden. She gulped and looked at him with alert eyes. "I didn't peg you to be such a man. You even want an ugly secretary to be your mistress. You're really one of a kind!"

Michael snorted. "See? You really are an idiot. You just believe whatever I say. Don't you feel like an idiot?"

"Do I need to know whether you are telling the truth or not?" Marina retorted.

Her words made sense, so Michael stayed silent. He brought his hand up to fix his tie, but he couldn't get it right.

Seeing him struggle with such a simple thing, Marina walked up to him with a sneer on her face. "I'll help you fix your tie. Please stay where you are. Don't move."
