Chapter 4 A Funny Kid

Time passed quickly. The next morning, Mike got up early. By the time Marina walked downstairs, ready to go to her interview, Mike was already dressed and waiting for her. He flashed her a smile and said, "Mommy, I'm coming with you. You have to take me to the amusement park later."

Marina frowned. She was going for a job interview, not to have fun. She didn't think it was a good idea to take Mike with her. She wanted to refuse, but Mike held her hand and whined like a spoiled child. "Mommy, please, I'll be good, I promise."

Every time she saw him acting like this, Marina had no choice but to nod and agree. 'It's kind of annoying. If he didn't make trouble for me, then everything would be fine, ' she thought.

"Fine, let's go together," she said helplessly.

She still remembered how Mike had accompanied her to an interview a few years ago. Although Mike was only three years old at that time, he was a genius and could play people like a fiddle. If she hadn't got angry at him, he would never have calmed down.

M Group was one of the largest companies in F City. Its business covered many fields, including catering, fashion design, and even television and film production. After seeing the enormous building with modern architecture, Marina was even more excited at the prospect of working for such a company.

Seeing that his mother was in a daze, Mike took her hand and stared at her. "Mommy, stop zoning out. Do you remember our agreement? You need to go to the interview soon so that you can take me to the amusement park later."

"Yes, Mike. Wait for me at the cafe over there. I'll go and attend the interview now," Marina said. Then, she suddenly crouched down and handed him something. "By the way, let me give you a gift for your fifth birthday. This belonged to your father. You must keep it with you. Don't lose it, okay?"

Mike frowned at his mother. "Mommy, now is not the time for gifts. Hurry up and go for the interview. I want to go to the amusement park with you to celebrate my fifth birthday."

"All right, be a good boy and wait for me at the cafe. Don't wander around."

All of a sudden, Mike felt that his mother was such a nag. 'Mommy has already said the same thing so many times! I don't want to hear it anymore. But her clumsiness is also cute. Why would Daddy abandon her?' Thinking of that, Mike didn't want to keep anything that belonged to his father. He just hoped that his mother could be happy every day.

"Mommy, go to the interview now. I will wait for you in the cafe over there. By the way, you need to give me some money. I can't just sit there and not order anything."

Marina smiled sheepishly. "Right, I forgot. I'm sorry. Here is thirty dollars."

After getting the cash, Mike rolled his eyes at her. "Silly Mommy. Why aren't you leaving? It's almost time for your interview."

"Right, I should go now. By the way, you are very impolite! How can you call me 'silly Mommy'?" Marina said unhappily.

Mike sighed. 'You're silly, and you know nothing. But I still like you, Mommy. I will always be with you, ' he thought in his heart.

Just before leaving, Marina pinched his face again. Mike immediately snapped, "Silly Mommy! Didn't I say that you shouldn't pinch my face? My face won't look good if it is disfigured."

Marina snorted as she walked away. 'This guy is really smug, but what he said is right. If his face is disfigured, he'll be ugly. But what should I do with such a good-looking son? I'm afraid to even leave him alone in public. If he was taken away, where would I find him?'

Mike confidently walked into the cafe and ordered a cup of black coffee. The waiter was a little surprised that such a little kid would order black coffee. Didn't kids usually drink juice?

But even though he was confused, he brought the black coffee without saying anything. After setting the cup down on the table, he prepared extra sugar cubes for Mike.

Michael was going to negotiate a big contract later today. He was waiting for the other party in the cafe when he noticed a little kid sitting there by himself. For some reason, he thought that the kid looked familiar. Moreover, he was a little curious as to why a child would order a cup of black coffee.

Mike picked up the cup of coffee and took a sip. He genuinely liked black coffee because of its taste. At first, it would be bitter. But after a careful taste, one would be able to feel its mellow flavor, followed by a faint sweetness. Mike could tell that these coffee beans had been specially roasted, because the coffee tasted burnt.

He slowly put down the cup in his hand, took out his mobile phone, and started to play around on it.

A faint smile appeared on Michael's face when he saw what the child was doing. 'If I have a child like that in the future, I will have nothing to worry about."

When Michael's employees saw the smile on their CEO's face, they thought that their eyes were playing tricks on them. 'Why is Mr. Michael smiling?'

At the same time, Mike felt someone's gaze on him. He raised his head and made eye contact with Michael. Then, he smiled back at Michael before returning to what he was doing.

When Michael saw the boy's smile, warmth engulfed his heart. He wondered why he was feeling this way all of a sudden.
